OK, that may be a stretch, but on Saturday, Dave Zabriskie will try to set the "US Hour Record" (which doesn't exist), to raise money for firefighters in LA. This is the coolest story in months, not so much because of the charity angle (which is nice but something lots of riders do) but because DZ will be making a rare American attempt at one of Cycling's most cherished records. To top it off, he proposes to ride not his Cervelo crotch rocket, but something like this.
It's taking place tomorrow, December 17, as he returns from training in South Africa, so a real hour record is unlikely. Probably somewhere in LA (Santa Monica has a velodrome, right?). For background on the hour record, here's Wikipedia on the subject.
