Cycling in MN in December...

Saw this on the news, and thought you might enjoy it.  Lot's of people were out riding yesterday and today, as it's been around 40 degrees out - a welcome January thaw.  The link is:

This is the only sane MN winter riding.

Winter night time MTB rides
are very popular with my club.  I can honestly say it has zero appeal to me.  Freezing cold temps and limited visibilty.  I get banged up enough in the daytime.

In the courier racing...
there is no winter race more respected that the STUPORBOWL, in Minneaplois, created by Tim the Super-Rookie.

Last year it was run in -30 degree weather. One participant developed a space between their bottoms and tops (which went numb immediately) and had sliver of frostbite across his belly for weeks afterwards!

Sur la Plaque!

Scanning through the "Big Photographs" from today's stage 7 of the Giro on Steephill (worth a look after every stage) and I noticed, on this image - whose caption describes "Niemec about to launch Lampre-ISD teammate Michele Scarponi on the steepest (10%) part of the climb" - that both Lampre cyclists are in the big chain ring.

Let me repeat that. 10% slope. Business end of stage 7 of the Giro. Big Chain Ring!
