Barloworld: "I Can't Quit You"

AFP reports that Barloworld, after withdrawing from Cycling over Moises Duenas' positive test during the Tour de France, has decided to carry on after all. As South Africa's only major team, Barloworld provides African racers an entree to the sport, a role they still want to play.

Unfortunately, they've lost classics hammerhead Enrico Gasparotto and climber Christian Pfannberger, making them more of a Commonwealth team than ever before (Cooke, Hunter, Augustyn, Geraint Thomas), but if their mission is to provide a bridge to the pro peloton for a non-traditional cycling nation, perhaps it's just as well. Mauricio Soler will still be around to get them some ink, and hopefully not just in the previews.

Weird

This is the story that just keeps giving. They announced earlier this summer that they would continue. Probably something to do with Signor Corti’s lawyers.

Slow news day and maybe Barlo’s PR people pushed the release out again, to bump their share price.

Tell them we'll do a swap.

If they give me the bike, I’ll buy them some gel.

Some rather unsurprising news from the Milan 6 days.

Have three guesses who won, despite sitting out one night.

Hey I followed those a bit but more so to see how

Colby and Daniel did. Daniel had updated his blog about it too. He’s back that way in 2 weeks for a couple more 6 days.

sorry Jens.

Peets is a coffee chain/store so some (me included) think provides much better coffee than starbucks.

We have an ongoing argument over who, in fact, owns the bed.

I’m not winning

Not helping here Lyne

I’m about to go to bed and now I’m going to be staring at the ceiling for half the night wondering about “peets”.

Peets is Zabriskie's coffee of choice.

lol, yeah

That, and Chris couldn’t resist the headline ;-)

Wasn't Gasparotto named by Fanini

as one of the St Moritz cross dressers. And Pfannenberger is a reformed doper too. Maybe Corti really wants to be clean this year.

The Cicloweb forum also has a rumour that Paride Grillo has hung up his bike. I can’t find anything of substance on that, but if rumours are going around then why can’t we join in with the fun. If this is true then fans of silly haircuts are going to be disappointed. Don’t bother checking the CSF website, they’ve still got photos of Sella on the front page.

also, if you're bored...

most of the major teams have announced their official rosters now. feel free to start exploring ;-)

by Jen See on Nov 11, 2008 4:36 PM EST reply actions

Merci, that's tomorrow sorted right there.

Now how about the next day, and the next month? Will someone just race a bike, somewhere, pleeeeez?!

by Albertina on Nov 11, 2008 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

Well if my bike arrives tomorrow. hahaha

I’ll give you a great story on my first ever ride :-)))

You may be waiting though, 11 weeks as of yesterday…

by CycleGirl on Nov 13, 2008 12:17 AM EST up reply actions

Good luck!

I’m waiting on a phone call from the shop….

by Albertina on Nov 13, 2008 7:32 AM EST up reply actions

I think i wil be buying next year.

I do hope i make it to TdF, but not sure, need to save some Dosh… 2010 may be the go, i think.. Plus worlds are in Aust 2010..

by CycleGirl on Nov 13, 2008 7:54 AM EST up reply actions

why do they need a bridge?

it’s just a much of a divide for Aus/NZ riders and yet enough of them seem to make it on the the european teams…well, Aus riders at least.

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
