Astana to train in NorCal in February

There was a story on the Associated Press wire on Tuesday, claiming that the Astana team would not return to Albuquerque for their pre-season camp, and instead, they were headed to Solvang, CA.
Well, the AP got it half right.
After freezing their Ass-tanas in Albuquerque last year, the team will not return to the frigid New Mexico winters in 2009. They are headed to California, but not to Solvang.
The team will camp out in Sonoma County, CA in early February, right before the Tour of California. We posted the story on CycleTo today, here.

Oh yeah,
Well, we in Solvang didn’t want them back anyway. Lots of thin guys hanging out at the Bulldog Cafe give the town a bad image (we like the big fat Midwestern sausage-eaters).

I think this clearly shows
that the news reports about Alberto and Lance fighting for leadership are overstated – clearly Levi is in charge and was throwing his weight around to get the training camp near his house.

The word in our local paper (Solvang) is that Astana is coming to Solvang in January. It looks to be an AP wire story. So there.
