The feud continues
What feud you may ask, well the Armstrong and Simeoni feud of course. In an article in Velonews Filippo Simeoni speaks out on Armstrong's return. If you don't know the history between these two you can read all about it in the article, just know that they don't like each other, at all. Simeoni says about the comeback of Armstrong
I don’t accept or recognize Armstrong’s return. A big champion ought to know when to say enough is enough. It looks like he couldn’t stand this time away from the front pages. He says he’s coming back for his foundation, which I honor, but there has to be something else. I suppose it’s to clean his image.
Simeoni is the Ialian national champ but there is no guarentee that his Ceramica Flaminia-Bossini Docce team will get an invite into the Giro. Let's all hope they do because who wouldn't want to see Armstrong and Simeoni meet again.

hm
A stronger case, Filippo, is that you don’t like him, or that Cycling doesn’t need him. The other stuff… why go there?

Now Lance has Klodi on his side
“Linus will do all he can to get press,” said Klöden, winner of this year’s Tour de Romandie. “I don’t have to go up to every camera and present myself as the saviour of cycling. Linus should keep calm and show respect” for Armstrong. Gerdemann “is promoting himself at the cost of other riders. … He has only once accomplished anything” by winning the Deutschland Tour this year….Klöden reminded Gerdemann that he would need “friends in the peloton,” and that Armstrong would not be one of them; “Lance was angry.”

Hm, the contest is evening out....
If Lance thinks Leenoos is such a nonentity, why is he even bothered?

That line "Lance was angry"
brings so much imagery with it.

Great! Klöden in his corner on dopingissues
Now all he needs is the heads of Big Tobacco to side with him on cancer.

The Simeoni Affair
was the point at which I lost all respect for Armstrong, and IMHO was one of the most disgraceful episodes of the entire EPO era. Riders actually spat on Filippo, compliments of Mr. Armstrong. I’m surprised Simeoni doesn’t have worse things to say about the return of of Big Tex.
by The Team Chef on Nov 8, 2008 10:03 PM EST 0 recs
It was Ekimov
who spit on Simioni’s tires, actually. Lance didn’t ask or encourage him to do it. I saw it happen live on TV.
I have a different opinion on this than The Team Chef. All I have to say about it is that Simeoni wasn’t 100% the saint, Armstrong wasn’t the 100% sinner, and they both had elements of both that led up to this particular episode.

seems to me an ambassador for something as serious as cancer
should not really act in a brash egomaniac manner. it will be interesting to see his response. his interview at the wind tunnel regarding LG and his web2.0 appearance really do nothing for his run at cancer awareness. he looks like a jack ass the more he opens his mouth.

i see his latest is now to threaten Gerdemann for speaking his mind and his Astana bully boys are starting to line up with him. the way things are shaping up, looks like ’09 will be a good one to sit out…

This really is so petty.
Gerdemann was asked a question in a press conference and he answered it honestly. People are entitled to express opinions. It’s not as if he went hunting for a journalist to whom he could give a juicy Armstrong quote as Klodi seems to suggest. Why be so petty as to threaten Linus with being chased down etc?! It’s hardly an earth shattering issue. Grow up people! (I know by the way that Linus has his own little vendetta against Jussi….I’m not trying to paint him as whiter than white….I just don’t understand why Lance is quite so bothered!

Hm, would be good actually hear the context of all this.

That kloden interview really pissed me off
first of all Kloden doesn’t need to get so personal with and countrymen, he hasn’t even been a teammate of Armstrong yet. Why the hell is he still even German, he can go become Swiss already. Second he says Gerdemann just wants to get his name in the press, yet he is defending Lance Armstrong, sounds pretty hypocritical there. The thing that got me the most though is that he said Gerdemann believes he is the savior of German cycling and always speaks out against doping, but he hasn’t won anything big yet. So apparently you can’t speak out against doping until you have won a GT or monument, oh sorry klodi I didn’t know speaking out on doping wasn’t allowed until you actually dope and won something big. Maybe Heras, Landis, and Ullrich should become cycling ambassadors. Kloden is pathetic, he is too scared to become a leader on a team, even with two Tour seconds, now he is playing fourth fiddle on his team. Linus clearly shows his ambition by switching to MIlram to become team leader, he isn’t too scared to take the leadership role. Klodi can’t handle that his time is almost up and their is a new face in German cycling. Errrr ok I got it all out, I feel better now. :)

Well done! Very liberating.
And for the record, I agree. It’s a very childish response.

Boy... look at the rules. And yet they are tweaked for TdU.
I am interested in seeing Lance race again but this sort of stuff that will have months to continue to build up is going to totally turn me off just like it did back then. I dislike it and it’s sad that one person can bring so many people to the sport and probably turn many away from it. Race your bikes.

No kidding, with all this drama if feels like you're watching a stupid MTV show
I think for some cyclists their worst asset is their mouths, I wish they would just be silent and race. They can prove all they need to on the road.

Finally Lance is in the media for a good reason
he wrote a story for CNN.com about the fight against cancer, and what he believes Obama should do as president to help.
