Oh poor Bert, oh poor little Bert

going from on top of the cycling world to being Lance’s bitch…um I mean um um um um oh hell he’s Lance’s bitch right now, in 2 months.

You see I can't see Bert being Lances BITCH....

I see if anything Lance being his Bitch at the TdF, that’s if he actually races…. Just my opinion..

Sure, but right now Lance is dominating the Astana scene

while Bert has sort of become second fiddle. It has something to do with Bert not being in his best shape and Lance being in very good shape, so at the moment it looks like Lance is dominating Bert and is way better than him. Also at the press conference Bert was totally Lance’s bitch. All that media was mainly there for Lance and you could see that Lance was in his comfort zone while Bert surely felt a little out of place. He looked more like Lance’s sidekick than the team leader. But that can all change once the racing heats up.

Bert just seems more of an introvert.
He has always been pretty quiet and seems to prefer letting his legs do the talking.

I think far to many of you are secretly hoping for a team civil war ala’ Lemond vs Hinault which I really hope will not happen and I just don’t think it will given the gigantic schedule Lance seems to be committing to.

Actually I'm not hoping for an internal team battle

a matter of fact, I dearly hope that there is no internal battle when the season gets going. When the racing starts I just want to enjoy the action and see the riders race, I don’t want to have to read about drama in the Astana camp every week. But it’s December and there is nothing wrong with stirring the pot a little. I’m just having a little fun with the situation.

indeed

it’s all about the fun :-)

by Jen See on Dec 9, 2008 12:29 PM EST up reply actions

Yes indeed, none of the media stuff really matters.

The media are bound to be more interested in Lance, and Lance knows how to play them, which isn’t really Bert’s style. It doesn’t have any bearing on who’s strongest on the bike.

King of December . . .

Let’s not get too carried away . . .

The media roles

That’s mostly what I was spoofing here, not so much the question of who’s going to ride bikes faster. I sorta picture Contador quietly going his own way – that is, he plays along, doesn’t directly challenge Armstrong in private or in the media, but is all along looking after his own interests – his spanish comment here that the tour is his main objective was my way of saying that. In a way, I was picturing that scene between Riis and Basso in Overcoming, where Riis is trying to talk to him, and Basso keeps eating his rice cake. Different scenario, but a similar kind of distance and resistance.

LOL, anyway, all for fun :-)

Oh Gavia...

You sweet thing you. I spent my entire Monday in a fog (okay maybe still frozen from yesterday) and to get to this tonight… absolutely a total giggle fest. It might’ve taken you most of your foggy crappy day with out service at that other cafe place, but damn, worth the laughs. You go girl!

How about this....

Astana sponsors are donating huge sums to Livestrong for Lance to create as much smoke as possible while Vino slips as quietly as possible in the back door.

Speed on the descent can easily be lost when you slam into a tree.

Sur la Plaque!

Scanning through the "Big Photographs" from today's stage 7 of the Giro on Steephill (worth a look after every stage) and I noticed, on this image - whose caption describes "Niemec about to launch Lampre-ISD teammate Michele Scarponi on the steepest (10%) part of the climb" - that both Lampre cyclists are in the big chain ring.

Let me repeat that. 10% slope. Business end of stage 7 of the Giro. Big Chain Ring!
