Tour of California Prologue... LIVE!

Ah, it feels good to type the words. Our first live thread of the year! For the uninitiated, use the comments to chat about the race when the Versus coverage kicks off at 5pm Eastern, 2pm West Coast. The race starts an hour earlier, so those of you truly live or following a tracker can feel free to start earlier. Enjoy!

Oh, and here is the prologue starting order, with times and everything. h/t Lucybears.

Looking forward to seeing
if they've done anything new with the Tourtracker app.  I was really impressed with its TdG implementation last year.  You know, when it worked.

What is the range of viewing options?
Other than "Live" of course.

Cycling.tv, Tour Tracker, Vs.... I think all of these are in play.  Am I correct?

If
there is any more coverage, find it here
http://cyclingfans.com/
Cyclingfans.com is en route to Palo Alto and the Tour of California.  Next update late Saturday or early Sunday with all the live coverage for the prologue: live video/audio, tickers, graphics, etc., updated daily throughout the race.

cycling.tv login problem
I know that cycling.tv is showing the Tour of California live and I would love to watch the premium coverage which I have membership but I cannot seem to get any responses when I send to team@cycling.tv email. I am requesting login information since I have forgotten all that stuff. I have sent 5 emails so far and no response back. Have other people had problems with them on this one?

by ultrafit2008 on Feb 17, 2008 11:20 AM EST   0 recs

try this email
I haven't been able to log in since they "upgraded" their system last year. I checked around the website and they say to use this email "cyclingtv@jumptv.com"  with Login Help in the subject.

I'm going to try it now.

Good luck.

Amgen Tour of California Prolouge Prediction
Poursuivants.com prediction today is that Thomas Voeckler will win the prologue.

Notice the shift in start times from the organizers after Robert Gesink. Looks like the two minute gap goes into place. Are they afraid that George Hincapie will catch Cancellara?

Check out the prologue starting times at http://www.poursuivants.com

In case anyone needs something to
contemplate while waiting for things to start, I offer this.

(that is not a typo)

by Sui Juris on Feb 17, 2008 2:18 PM EST   0 recs

insane...
also noted is that the longest crank arm offered is a 175 -- 177.5 and 180s are going the way of the dodo bird...?

Live now on CBS stream
Go to cyclingfans for the CBS link.Currently showing the celebrity/charity prologue race.

May be worth opening as cycling.tv is already running poorly

so far, so good

adobe tour tracker works. Come on High Road!

Impressed with the
tourtracker.  Good video, so far.  I like the live results column to the right.

it's ****ing amazing
i've never seen any live streaming as good as this one. And then you see some european races without even a website!!

and they offer the whole prologue. great

I'm thinking Levi for today
I'm also thinking that Astana will be brutally strong in all the races they're allowed to be in-- just to prove a point.

Hi, guys. I can't get in to c.tv
right now, what is happening?  (Figures.  I've been watching last year's races all winter, and even logged on this morning, with no problems.  Now there's a race on, I get nada.)

Saunier Duvall rider
is up-- but they don't have TT Bikes -- just clip on bars

by orangekick on Feb 17, 2008 4:04 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

hit the tourtracker
I'm still dicking around with Cycling.tv, too.

by Sui Juris on Feb 17, 2008 4:07 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

I got an "internal server error"
but then restarted my browser and it eventually worked.  Then the 400 kbs feed was really choppy so I went to 256, which seemed to be audio only and a constant pic, went back to 400 kbs feed which is currently working.

My general approach to cycling.tv is if it doesn't work - try again, click on something different, reopen the browser - it never seems to be consistent as to what works and what doesn't...

by guidemd on Feb 17, 2008 4:11 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

lost the feed
might be an easier race to follow via text at CN

by orangekick on Feb 17, 2008 4:07 PM EST   0 recs

Has anyone been able to log in to c.tv?
I've tried a half-dozen times, with no luck.

by Tifosa on Feb 17, 2008 4:08 PM EST   0 recs

I'm in...
the performance is sporadic at best...

no tourtracker either.

by orangekick on Feb 17, 2008 4:09 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

I'm in
but the TourTracker is working better, so I just clicked off cycling.tv

by PopUp Rolen on Feb 17, 2008 4:13 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

not sure if i was actually logged in
because just realized I only had 100, 256 and 400 choices - when we hooked up the other computer to the TV, all of a sudden there was up to 1200 kbs (which isn't working all that well, pretty choppy).

by guidemd on Feb 17, 2008 4:15 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

First riders are coming in
just over 4 minutes (4:04 is first, thus far).

Looks fast - double lollipop course, with easy ends.   Two (wide-ish) 90 turns near one end.

by Sui Juris on Feb 17, 2008 4:11 PM EST   0 recs

Dominique Rollins (Toyota United)
holds the fastest time...

shoot, just lost the feed again.

by orangekick on Feb 17, 2008 4:11 PM EST   0 recs

Tour Tracker
is working great so far. No luck with c.tv for me either.

by Veloki on Feb 17, 2008 4:12 PM EST   0 recs

I'm in on the tourtracker! Yes!
Who's in first?  Dominique Rollin into 2nd, just now. Wasn't there someone here talking about him?

I think Rollin is in 2nd
Frankie kept saying 1st but the graphics at the bottom listed "2" at 1.1 seconds back (as I read it)

by guidemd on Feb 17, 2008 4:18 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Thank you. Hansen looking very
smooth. Looks like there are big crowds all along the route.

c.tv just angers me:  I've been trying to get signed on for an hour now, only to see repeated advertisements to buy the FANTASTIC coverage of the TdCA.

Suhuux
Cycling.TV  I can't even sign in with my membership level to watch the first hour before dancing over to Versus.  I'd say they get the lantern rouge award for absolutely worst live coverage.

I get CTV
and it's working ok. I have a pretty slow connection so I didn't have high hopes. However, no Anthony and Brian! I'm listening to the man I believe is Towle. Is this some kind of cruel revenge because I joked about it? Drew did you arrange this?

by Jens on Feb 17, 2008 4:27 PM EST   0 recs

It's not Towle
but it is the same commenters that we're getting on the Tourtracker.

I'll know when it's Towle.  My ears will start bleeding.

Tourtracker v. Cycling.tv
Finally into Cycling.tv.  1200 stream doesn't work nearly as well as tourtracker.  Tourtracker wins (and is free, no less).

nice message

any surprise?  (JumpTV is the parent company of c.tv if anyone didn't know)

by guidemd on Feb 17, 2008 4:38 PM EST   0 recs

you should
check out the stock chart for JumpTV -- it trades on the Toronto stock exchange (JTV.TO) ... looks like a going out of business sale.
