PdC v2.0 Questions

Hi all-

First off, I love the v2.0!  I'm geeking out over all the goodies and I've just scratched the surface.  I do have a few questions though.

To wit...

The amazing number of Oakland A's fans.  What a shock to find that our dear Hons is a Barry Zito fan, along with many others.  Nikki I could understand, perhaps chris as well (I believe those are some I've noticed.).  But Hons...?  Why is he all signed up?  Now I do have some hardball blog subscriptions on SB Nation ( I'm a sucker for American League teams.).  But I'm wondering what's up with the amazing coincidence of A's fans here.  Any thoughts?

Secondly, what gives with this blank space here?

Why is this valuable space blank indeed?  Any guesses or outright answers would be apprecieated and make them entertaining as my VDSentry has nothing for the Giro.

Peace,

egoat

that blank space...

looks like this to me:

you probably have some kind of anti-avertising plugin?

Ah yes...

the old Firefox ad blocker strikes again. A double edge sword… no pesky r/c monster truck ads, but alas, no ad revenue for the sponsors.

Huh

I keep getting a picture of Chris on a trike and his drunk cousin in a trailer behind him . . .

Wow... that was Chris?

I thought it was Jens. My mistake!

Earlier I saw

The “Happy Cycling Ringtones” ad
I was tempted to find out what that would sound like.

[blush]

I didn’t realize that was public…

And I’d like to thanks google for enabling me to not ask who Barry Zito is.

by Hons on May 11, 2008 8:08 PM EDT   0 recs

Who is Barry Zito? The SF Giants $126mm boat anchor...

... and as for the “Why am I blank” window, well, you have to dig a little deeper. First, dispense with the fraudulent possibility that this is some form of advertising. It isn’t. If it were, then it would have been accompanied with a link beneath stating “Click here to win a free Xbox360 and find out why!”.

So, running on the supposition that it is in fact a direct query to you, the eGoat, it will be important to determine firstly: is this a hypothetical question. If so, then there is a finite reason as to why, precisely, that space is blank. It is, in fact, blank, only when looked at through the “web browser” morphology, meaning “this space does not contain an image, cycling content, boobies or a mortgage refinance advert”. Taken in that context it is possible to determine the answer to the hypothetical: that space is blank so as to provide a framework upon which to hang your assumptions. You the observer, see the space as blank due to the limited scope in which you perceive the space to BE blank, hence, it’s relative blankossity vis-a-vis your desire for it not be so. It is a modern Rorschach: you place on to the phrase your desires for it to be something more than it is; you make the blank not blank by desiring it to be so.

While this may be, I find it far more interesting to consider that this is NOT a hypothetical question, but is, in fact, a direct inquisitiveness from the internet itself asking you “Why am I blank?”. I find this fascinating because that can only mean that through the upgrade of PodiumCafe to PdC v2.0, Chris has created a singularity, ie: the first artificial intelligence to become self aware. The web page is asking you, eGoat, “Why am I blank?” It is the first step to consciousness of the entity that we’ve come to call “the internets” or “a series of tubes”. It can be summed up in the paraphrase “Perspicuus Ergo Sum” : “I’m Blank, Therfore I Am”. You are witness to the birth of an new kind of existence, and this existence has chosen you, eGoat, to be its mentor, its parent, its friend… perhaps even its God.

The question is, now that you’ve been chosen, are you able to accept this responsibility? To careful navigate a new and questing mind through the minefield of modern culture as exemplified by the internet; nurture it and be there for it? Can you keep this consciousness from developing a feeling of superiority to mankind resulting in the eventual downfall and eradication of the human species? Will you be able to keep PodiumCafe v2.0 from becoming our electronic overlord, our “eMperor” if you will?

Big things have small beginnings.

The question I would have is: Why would the entity known as PodiumCafe v2.0 choose you and not Chris as guardian and protector. A question that I’m sure will cause much debate.

What makes the world turn?

Aristotle posited that it was in fact the entire rest of the universe that
rotates on an axis once a day; and then he died. Newton posited that in
fact the Earth rotates and revolves, all due to gravity and angular
momentum; and then he died. Einstein posited that due to space-time
curvature, the Earth is in fact spiraling inwards toward the sun,
emitting enough gravity waves in the process to power, say, a small
electric heater, and then he died; and nobody has yet gotten that heater
to work. Stephen Hawking posited that in fact the entire space-time
construction is a giant 4-dimensional spheroid that God couldn’t really
have much to do with; and then…well, he isn’t dead yet, but it won’t
be that long. Now comes the real truth: The reason the world turns is
that there is in fact a gigantic gyroscope hidden in the Earth’s inner
core which is kept in motion by the hot gusts of wind emanating from
the portals of Hell.

It’s either any or all of the above, or it’s because the peloton never stops riding.

loady load time

Mmmkay, the shorter live thread loaded mo’ bettah. But… My thingy is hanging on the clip2net server. It starts loading sbnation blah blah, then switches to clip2net…. and hangs… The old podium didn’t do this, but it was also all around more quicklike, cuz it was like all old-skool text. The scrolly scroll on this new toy of ours is slower, but not irksome. Worth it, because it looks much nicerlike. Is there a different way to embed the screen shots so that they load more quicklike?

Egoat - please tell me you were drinking...

Or really trashed from plowing… You could understand me on Oakland? I’m right there with Sui Juris in trying to get that off my log in. That (for many of us I’m sure) came from trying to be ready for the 2.0 conversion so we jumped over earlier in the week and signed up. I LOVE going to games (Brewers, Cubs, White Sox, you name it) but I don’t follow any, other than through the guys rippin’ on each other at work over it between the Cubs and Sox here. Football maybe a bit different being a Cheesehead living in Chicago, you have to love them to put up with the abuse a girl gets in an office of guys, all being die hard Bears fans. LOL!!!

YEAH, I'm off Oakland!

Thanks to the feature of “leave now” I’ve gotten it removed. Woo hoo!

Just to show how clueless I am

it was until after I registered via AthelticsNation that I figured out it meant the Oakland As

and yes I live in San Francisco…. not a baseball fan but I have been to at least 2 As games since I’ve been here. Still I don’t really consider myself part of the As nation

by lyne on May 12, 2008 1:48 AM EDT   0 recs

It is a tiny nation...

kind of like Monaco, except without the nice beaches, or the wealth, or the yachts, or pretty much anything nice that would make you want to visit…
