Giro d'Italia Stage 8... Live!!
Giro d'Italia Stage 8... LIVE!!
Interesting stage today, as far as guessing the outcome. It's largely a downhill run, after some early ciimbs, dropping into a long valley gallop. But the last 4km have some sort of incline to them. CN says it's gradual... then predicts Ricco or Bettini to win. Only half of that sentence can be right. I'd say watch out for Bennati, if the ramps don't get too severe. Otherwise, the usual Classics suspects. Maybe J-Rod can reel off one last win, before the hills turn to flats, then to mountains. Enjoy!

I'm gonna brave c.tv this am
But I have the cyclingfans options prepared to lauch too.
Good morning, all.
This is the first chance I’ve had to watch a live Giro stage this year, so I’m pleased to be here. The coffee is brewing.
Bruce, yikes, that’s hard to hear this early in the morning. Moribito separated his shoulder a few days ago, and now…ouch.

I'm just in for a quick few minutes of viewing before riding
Anybody got a non-Ctv feed that’s working? All the euro links are showing canoing.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
My thoughts exactly
And what’s with Norwegian TV? They’re showing freaking opera!
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
Oh, that might be the opening of the new Oslo operahouse (?)
Decorated with beautiful italian marble. Unfortunately no one mentioned to the norwegians that if you put that up in the Oslo climate it will turn a wonderful colour of urine. So now they will have an operahouse that looks like someone had a big pee-party all over it.
I knew
I could get a comment out of you :-)
Look, it’s fine that they’re opening a new opera house but really, I have to see it instead of the race?
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
It's definately a step in a better direction...
Did the stage start yet today? I”m getting a Rebecca interview on C.TV…
============= Daniel
I caught this today :-)
Maybe it was the lack of coffee yesterday?

to bring up the interactive ticker, just click on any of the TIME links on the left
(hope that makes sense)

Good morning everyone
You people deserve some kind of medal for getting up in the wee hours of the morning every day.
I'm good with these 8 am starts
It was the wee morning classics that kicked my butt.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Isn't it though?
Ok, RAI live now and Cassani looks like he had a sour calamari last night. Definitely not a happy face.

C.TV is streaming beautifully this morning...
But they don’t have a feed of the race, just in interview. sigh

Bruce, we don't have the race on c.tv yet: split from
the big climb?
It's hard to be nostalgic when you can't remember anything. - Steve Allen
Not to offend half the audience here but
the podium girls at the Giro are way better than the Tour – the girls at the Giro actually look like athletes that could hop on a bike and knock out 50K no worries. The girls at the Tour look like they’re more concerned about their hair and whether they have enough smokes to curtail their appetites. In other words – not role models.
(I feel like this is ok territory to broach since most of the time the camera’s focus on 180 male rumps. Carry on.)
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
No offense
and I would even agree.
These chickies at least seem to have a bit of “personality” vs stone faces at the tour.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
So I have feed of the race
what is taking ctv so long to click over??
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Well let's see...
1) Incompetence
2) Hubris
3) Confusion
4) Mediocrity
5) P.P.P.P.P.P.P.
6) A squirrel ate through the ONLY cable at C.TV HQ
7) They want to extort more money out of us
8) Homeland Security is Interrupting the Feed to check it for Terrorist Content
9) You mean you can’t see the race? I can see the race? :)
10) Because if they showed you a race, then you couldn’t concentrate on the Banner Ads you’re also paying to see.

Wow.
Have we gone from a tad too much beer to a tad bit too much coffee this morning?
Or is this just another post from the butt?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Came up with that off the top of my head...
... all I’ve had this morning is a bowl of cereal. No coffee until after the gym.
============= Daniel
I skip the gym on the weekends
Do longer rides instead. I can go all week with no coffee. Weekends, it’s probably a pot a day. During the classics, I think I had a couple races where I hit almost 2.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Yeah but I don't ride bikes...
and riding the Triumph doesn’t really count as a workout. How many calories are in a gallon of beer? I think I have to pay a price in the gym for Thursday night.
============= Daniel
good point
As soon as this is over, get your butt over there.

Morning
RAI have come ready prepared for a dull stage, and have a huge panel of talking heads.
And a few notes from today’s morning show:
The Italians all think that wherever Bert was last week, it wasn’t on the beach. As Piepoli put it “If I had been on the beach I would have lost 10 minutes yesterday.”
Bennati is looking forward more to tomorrow, the only stage ending in Tuscany.
Bettini reckons that he did a good job yesterday helping Visconti “You have to respect the jersey” The Italians don’t just give it up.
Visconti’s father is looking to be more embarrassing than Tommeke’s mum. Apparently he had a dream last night that his son would carry Bettini to a stage win today as thanks for yesterday.
And Alessandra just can’t get an interview with Levi; her arrives, signs in, and leaves for the depart.
Can someone please look up the Puerto documents
to make sure “beach” isn’t some no so clever codeword for something else, thats trouble we don’t need.
Is the Giro covered by the UCI?
If Bert really wasn’t on a beach but say… in Mexico training and didn’t tell the UCI… well… would make for a painful last week of the race.

Did he attack, or was he recovering position?
I’m not so sure that was a planned attack by Di Luca as much as it might have been a desperate lunge to get to the front and not lose precious time. I can’t believe that he was intentionally so far back with less than 2km to go. Did anyone see him puncture?
According to RAI
he held back on the descent with 3 teammates because he felt that was safer. All apparently planned.

didn’t sound worried. He said that he eased up going down the last hill to avoid trouble and crashes. He wasn’t left alone at all; he had three team mates with him. That’s what he said: do you believe it?

that only a rider with his character could arrive at the Giro in good condition after such a year.
nice
Savol is generous. I like that guy – I didn’t at first but over the last few years he’s really grown on me. Very class.
And then oddly
He didn’t know what happenend to Di Luca or even where he was at the end (Danilo doesn’t wear a radio?)
The question mark
was meant to say “how does that stop them passing info to Savoldelli” I cut it a bit short because my PC starts to slow down on these long threads. I type smoething and watch it come out slowly on screen at about 1 character a second. Correcting spelling is hell!
noe
bursting with fruit flavor!
they asked him something about how the team has changed with diluca not there… he says lpr is a good team, mumble mumble mumble
what...
the bursting with fruit flavor? lol, sorry, maybe i need to publish a gavia translator. was sorta sarcastic about his unenthusiastic sound
sorry,
no, I ment the reaction of the man, not your translation!!
They are perfect!!

visconti
says that it was a long hard stage. he is happy to have the jersey. i think he said he was taking it day by day.
sorensen
brief odd conversation about how helmets are obligatory and how there’ve beena bunch of crashes.
They never seem to say
Just a series of shots zooming on to some sort of stuffed rat.
The road safety bus
I think. Don’t ask about the guy who sang!
Tomorrow. Savoldelli expectes it to be a day for Liquigas – Bennati.
sorry...
missed it…
they just signed off now…
i’m going to guess the police guy was chatting ‘bout doping – bulba and cassani said something about the processo having some doping talk.
bettini
here’s bettini’s post-race:
Gli replica Paolol Bettini: "Avevo detto che volevo fare la tappa, ci siamo accollati il peso della rincorsa ai fuggitivi, i miei compagni sono stati perfetti. Volevamo vincere e abbiamo perso sulla linea d’arrivo, ma Riccò oggi è stato forte, furbo e bravo. E domani si arriva in Toscana…".
He says his team was perfect, that he wanted to ride for the stage and to keep the escape under control. I wanted to win and came close but today Ricco is strong, furbo… crafty, and bravo. Tomorrow, we arrive in Toscana – that’s Bettini’s home region, so he’ll perhaps want to show something.
Kloden
I missed the interview with Klodie, but apparently there was one.
He says that he’s riding good, that yesterday the climb was too short and fast for him, but that’s okay because the climbs that will decide the giro are long and hard. He is looking forward to the time trial at urbino which will stabilize things. He doesn’t think much of Ricco’s chances.
If he comes flying up the Mortirolo
with his gold chain dangling I’m reserving the right to call him “Der Buffalo”, I don’t care about the burden of proof.
