Save Ferris!
Great great ride.
Bert- does what he needed go do- the guy can handle the pressure all right. Now wee will see if his team can help him defend and it looked like LL and Klodi didn;t go all out here.
Bert
Well done. I suspect if he really is in something less than top shape, it’ll show up on the longer climbs, a/k/a Gavia/Mortirolo double. But he’s hung in well enough, and time is running shorter.

Still
an impossible race to call. One thing we know is that it’s all up to Ricco and Simoni to gap Contador by enough time to survive the final time trial. But as to what happens… who the hell knows?

Did you expect something else?
A spaniard has nearly solidified his claim on the Maglia Rosa.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
I know he was beat by eight seconds...
and I just got out of bed, but let me just say:
SELLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Did no one tell him...

Hey... is that the blonde they interviewed on Pez...

That wasn't an interview
Just the interviewer thinking out loud far more than he should have.
There were words in that article?

If that's all I need...

From Cyclingnews ticker
The stage ends at the “Kronplatz”, and “Kron” means “crown” in German. So it is only fitting that today’s stage winner will be named Prince of the Kronplatz, and will be awarded a hand-made bronze crown.
diluca
he didn’t expect to go so bad. he felt good, but the time wasn’t good. we will see, saturday, maybe he’ll try to attack. save ferris! went well. we will see on saturday what contador can do.
Can't they find a way to spray the champagne...
without looking like they’re humping the bottle.

simoni
asking if he thinks contador might have a crisis. coming stages dura, dura, dura. difficult to form an alliance against contador.
Simoni
“Giro is not over yet” “We should have worked with Pellizzotti yesterday when Contador was suffering on Giau”
Shoulda... but didna...

Si
He’s very relaxed this year – Perhaps because he feels he has nothing left to prove. Maybe he is happier with his team than usual.
Agree
... and Astana’s done a great job of building the hype with the beach and vacation stuff. I still they were prepping for the Giro, nearly as if they were going. At least Simoni didn’t call him an extra-terrestrial.
In an unrelated matter, Contador’s comments seem very polished for a young guy. He’s got a good coach.
Pellizzotti
“My team was the only one to try to attack contador…..nobody helped me yesterday on Giau”
Rest day tomorrow?!
Why the heck do they need to rest? Haven’t these last three days been restful enough?
Did you feel sympathetic pain with
Gustav Larrson?

cute that she "interviewed" Pelizotti's kid as well
I’m guessing that when the kid answered “Franco” the question was “who’s the best rider?” or “who’s going to win overall?”
Or maybe she asked
Who could kick a Spaniard’s ass?
"I won! I won! I don't have to go to school anymore." -- Eddy Merckx, after winning his first bike race
Astana
Seriously its up to Bert’s team to control things now and that’s the first time this race that we have a clear favorite defending.
by the way Kloden and Leipheimer
rode today—they know damned well that they have to control the race.
Small smile
That C beat LL up the hill by a second.

eddy
they ask who he thinks can win? contador. still thinks though Gibo Ricco, long days in the mountains to come like Saturday
Riccò
I’m happy about my race. I had trouble on the last km when I was trying to ride standing but my rear wheel was slipping.
Ricco
contento. a good time trial. he lost traction in the last kilometer – he was trying to ride out of the saddle and slid a bit. giro isn’t finished.
simoni
says the stage with the vivione more decisive than the crono. he’s also laughing, that they say it is over.
lol, what he said!

Old school cloak-and-dagger. This ain’t tiddlywinks.

full results
< href=”http://www.gazzetta.it/Speciali/Giroditalia/2008/classifiche/it/classifica.shtml?t=16&c=”>stage results are up at Gazzetta.
No GC just yet.
they're taking a poll
is the individual more important or the team…
says that the team is important for calmness – the organization, the mechanicals, etc. but out on the road, it’s an individual sport.
Sella
Seems to me that if they allow Sella to go on a couple more breakaways, he could win it. I don’t see any team who has the domestiques to control Sella, and the contenders don’t want to chase him because it gives the other contenders an edge. Wonder what kind of flat ITT Sella could do if it really counted.
He's had
his last breakaway. They’ll chase him down from now on. There aren’t many more climbs left anyway.

they do that fairly often, especially in the mountain stages, when it’s hard to get a lot of riders to come for the post-race show.
I think that those two must live nearby
Her brother Manfred did the scouting ride with Cassani, and they were both on the rollers this morning too.
who plays the greatest role in this giro?
he says liquigas.

Any sprinters left to contest 17? They were saying something about people not meeting the cutoff. Looking at the little climbers struggling up that 24% grade at the end, I have to wonder if the sprinters didn’t get off and walk.
Benna, Cav and Zabel
still there. Don’t know about Zabel’s legs, but that should be enough bodies to chase down any breaks.

I suppose they forgot to tell the
riders that they have to free climb a cliff face next weekend.

ricco post-race comment.
“It went well, more or less as I expected. I never ride to finish second, but to lose less than 10 seconds in a crono to Contador cannot be considered a negative result. Now in GC I have 41 seconds to recover, a reasonable gap, and I will think of something. I am disappointed only in the finale to not be able to sprint as I wanted, I still had energy to chagne rythm, but my rear wheel slipped on the road, and I lose some seconds there without doubt. All the same, I have done a good crono, and considering that my direct adversaries have lost about the same as me, this is overall a positive day for me.”
