Cadel's Tour In Jeopardy?!?
Not yet, but this item from the CN notes says he's having knee trouble, and just canceled plans to reconnoiter some of the climbs of the Tour de France, where he was a solid preseason favorite to win. Silence-Lotto management insist he'll be at the start, but are mum about predicting what his condition will be like. Hopefully he'll come around quickly; this would be a huge blow to the Tour. Stay tuned.

that would be suckage supreme
He used to be awesome at updating his webby. Nothing since Feb this year. Slacker.
no diary entries since Feb but...
but he had race reports pretty much every day he’s raced this year (in News, you have to click on the month to get the more recent entries as it defaults to February), and his wife did a diary entry a few weeks ago … though nothing more recent.
no worries
of course, in my haste to correct the link I forgot to add my scream of anguish at this overall turn of events, “Nooooooo! say it isn’t so!” ;-)
(hoping that *-Lotto is exaggerating for mind game purposes or something…)
Tour Relevance...
... if the full previous year’s podium isn’t at the race? I don’t think in the grand scheme it diminishes it, but I’m sure Zomegnan would get a huge chuckle out of it.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
Does this mean that Sastre is going to win the Tour?
Or, maybe it means that Astana is going to get the last minute invite and Levi is going to win the Tour! How weird would that scenario be?
If I just had one more gear, I...
I'm holding out
for Baby Schleckie to come in and kick everyone’s ass. :-)

But
if he’s racing the Free Dolphin then it can’t be that bad… yet. Let’s see how he does there first.
The VDS implications...
could be Earth-shattering. Cunego in Yellow?
It would certainly make for a wide-open Tour. At this point, if his preparation isn’t going well, then it’s already looking a bit wide-open. But if his knee comes around, he can still get on track.

Cunego in yellow?
How can you write steadily when you’re all giddy jumping up and down. I bet you have already started to write your “Classics studs rule the GT’s” blogpost.
With regards to Evans i don’t think we should be too worried, it’s impossible to have a problemfree season. Cancelling the recon might be a good thing. Wasn’t it on one of those he broke his clavicle a couple of years ago?
Even if Evans has to miss the Tour
The smart money, if Astana doesn’t get a last minute invite, would be on on Menchov or Sastre. Cunego just isn’t going to win the Tour. I think him winning the Giro a few years ago might have been something of a one-off. I know that won’t be a popular statement, but 2004 is starting to be a long time ago now and his results over the last few years have been more on the one day race side of the house and not over the course of a three week long GT. There’s obviously nothing wrong with that. We’ve seen how good he is in the classics, so why not concentrate on those. There are worse riders to emulate than a rider like Bettini. We all know about his successes.

Menchov is looking pretty scary for the Tour right now
Even if Mr Soprano’s gets well prepared despite his knee, Menchov has to be a huge favourite. The only cloud is his tendency to have one bad day. I’m guessing we’ll see a more agressive Sastre which could turn out to benefit Menchov in the end.
