Meanwhile in the US...
The Nature Valley Grand Prix started yesterday with a pair o' crits. Check out Lyne's most excellent story about what went down. Kristin Armstrong threw down huge and lapped the field, only to have the race nuetralized after the finish. The mens' race was also nuetralized, after a moto crashed in the midst of things. Crazy times!

Lyne's
place should be on the reading list of anyone who’s interested in domestic racing. Very smart coverage.

Thanks Lyne!
It is so nice to get coverage of the domestic scene. Your site is the first place I go to check on updates for domestic races.

i seriously don't know what to say.... except thank you
I’m still trying to find my voice in the well so-called cycling media circus, which is why I started the blog earlier this year, to both talk about only (or mostly) domestic racing and to practice my writing.

no easy thing.
But the blog is great! You know as well as I do that good coverage of domestic racing can be hard to find. Especially womens’ racing. Keep it up! I love reading it, for sure.

just adding one thingy...
i like that you have lots of cool quotes from the riders, and your writing style is nice and clean – you don’t draw attention to yourself, but you tell the story. good stuff!

Total must-read. Which, is why I had to give it a post. ‘specially since there was DRAMA involved in this one. Man, I can’t believe they nuetralized the womens’ race after the whole freakin’ thingy was over. Good grief! I can see letting the lapped riders start the next stage and assigning them an agreed upon GC time that was waaay down. But nuetralizing the work done by Tibco and Kristin A? That’s fucked up.

Yep. totally messed up - And I guess this proves that the women are tougher than the men
. It was raining during the women’s race and they finished it, albeit shortened. But they stopped the men’s race, and the rain had stopped. That move was also stupid, asking all the riders by a show of hands if they wanted to neutralize the race, I’ve never heard of that happening before.
If I was Armstrong or the Tibco team, I would be royally pissed off.

if ever there was a moment for a bike toss. not that a womens’ team can be tossin’ bikes, of course. brooke m had the money quote – i’m a sprinter, i worked my ass off in the break, no way would i have done that otherwise.
that is bizarro officiating. i’ve never heard of something like that happening before either. before a race, yes – i’ve been at races where the field has voted to shorten a race, but during? crazy shit right there.

Great piece, Lyne!
It sounds like there were some crazy goings on over in Saint Paul last night.
The good news is that the weather here in Minneapolis is beautiful today, so it should be fine for this evening’s stage in Cannon Falls, which is only about 50 miles south of here.
