Road Graffiti and Podium Café
OK, I too some gentle ribbing for not painting "PODIUM CAFE" on the road while watching the 2008 Dauphiné.
I can't guarantee it, but I should be cycling up Verbier for the Tour de Suisse (Switzerland) later in the week.
If you want "Podium Café" written on the road, give me advice on how to do it, where to do it, and how to photograph it.
We'll see what happens :)

Large capital letters big enough to see from the helicpoter?
Probably not in the cards, but that would earn you mythic status around here… I know that here in the states the local authorities frown upon using actual paint, plus I’ve also seen others post here that paint on the road is slippery for the riders, so I would not want to encourage you to do anything that might mess up someone’s race or get you in trouble. You can use plain old chalk and draw it out by hand, but big letters would take forever and would be dumb use of your time, at least in my opinion. You could try something like this, assuming you can find some place to purchase it over there. And as for how to photograph it, a photo like the one you posted would be perfect. You will obtain mythic status if it gets onto the teevee.

No, no, no...
Road flares duct taped to the ground with an igniter you can set off just as the peloton approaches…. THAT should get us some press time!

er... um...
The Podium Cafe does not advocate for anything that is illegal. As for the legal stuff, go nuts!

pretty sure...
it’s legal in europe, isn’t it? it’s usually a us race thing, where it is super heavily discouraged. like say here in cali. me, i think they should let us paint up the roads. but i’m sorta biased on this issue.
cyclingchallenge? heh, big is good :-) but really anything you could do would be so much fun!

Personally I like the photo above.
Substitute PodiumCafe.com and that would be a great poster.

The comment in photo was for 2007 Dauphiné
It says BTW
“UCI = Dealer
Moreau Vache (cow)
Cycing = Doped”
Remember Moreau won the 2007 DL

Liquid Chalk
I think I read somewhere that they sell liquid chalk in Europe specifically for painting the road during cycling races. You use a roller brush and paint tray. Anyone else know about this?

I know I've seen them painting away with the small roller and bucket so... sure?

Good luck but
I wonder if you should have taken your chance in France. The Swiss in their inimitable way will probably fine you through the nose if they don’t like what you’re doing. The French? A little more laissez faire.

Spray chalk
Just like spray paint, but washes off in the rain.
