Suisse Stage 5... LIVE!
A climber's route? Perhaps, at least for a while as the Tour de Suisse crosses some slopes early on. The conclusion is a downhill run-in though, more of an escaper's course than anything else. Enjoy!

I'd tap that
Somehow I seem to be able to avoid getting lost on bike, even though in car and on foot I can take two turns from my house and be completely stranded. But for peace of mind and, more importantly, for flashing around at my friends who don’t have interesting gadgetary, I’d totally buy one.

just being able to overlay
your trackpoints on a map is an absolute dream come true for those of us who ride their bikes like urban assault vehicles. From bike trails, to laneways to dirt paths, it’s nice to see where you went and having the chance to optimize the route for future rides—a terrific tool for planning rides.

fair warning
Rebecca,
nothing personal of course…
But I now have FiOS at home, and the most updated MacOS and Flip4Mac available. And I have already signed in, well in advance of any coverage. So if CTV dares to stutter on me today (or in the future), don’t look for any “could be on my end” statements in my posts. Especially now that “someone’s” lawyers have strong-armed the Denmark feed so it can no longer be accessed worldwide.

I got no problem with his wit
it’s issues with service that chafe my butt… ctv needs to spend time making life easier for those who spend money on them. The Danish feed was welcomed because ctv did not work. Now that’s been shut down and we get wise cracks instead on good service.
To quote Laurie Anderson… “I paid my money, I;m just not sure that this is what I paid my money for.”

If harold and rebecca internalize CTV
they would have to curl up in a fetal position and moan, instead of fixing problems for us. So I like it when they exhibit individuality and even wise-assery. It means there’s someone who thinks independently on the inside, and that HAS to be a good thing.

The Danish TV thing
Not to be a CTV apologist, or get into a big argument about this, or highjack the race thread, but if CTV has purchase exclusive rights to broadcast a race over the internet from the race provider, all assumptions on my part, and then someone other broadcaster starts to infringe on that, then CTV has every right to complain and get the other guy to shut down. That seems fair to me. The fact that they may be providing crap service to us customers is another issue entirely. Just my $0.02.

by Jimbo... on Jun 18, 2008 10:52 AM EDT 0 recs
If they can't fulfill their contract to provide that service
Their contract probably requires them to make the content available. I doubt the race sponsors of any race want their race to be effectively blacked out from the world market—the team sponsors and the race sponsors also have legal rights. Without seeing the contracts, I’d still assume there is language stating that the race will contract for international distribution…and the distributor promises to carry out that distribution, not pull a media black-out. At its worst, CTV comes close to creating black-out conditions.
There’s also the moral question: regardless of legalities, if CTV’s actions are hurting racing, not helping it… and if CTV’s actions, not DK TV’s actions, are cutting into CTV’s revenue stream…should international law / internet law really have the ability to grant exclusive rights to ALL forms of distribution?
In that case, if China wants to shut down coverage of its next tiananmen square incident, all it would have to do is claim broadcast rights, and then broadcast / sell only the images it wants to project…oh, wait, i guess that’s no so far-fetched.
