Bye Bye to the Argyle Armada
According to Velonews Team Slipstream have persuaded Garmin to pony up a bit more sponsorship cash to get title sponsor status (I wonder if David Millar's little eulogy during the Giro was part of some masterplan). No longer Team Slipstream, they will now be Team Garmin-Chipotle presented by H30. So now we wonder how much longer that unique orange and blue kit can survive? As long as Svein Tuft is in the peloton, perhaps.

aww
and here I’d even gone and come up with a clever title involving finding a title sponsor with Garmin, polished it up, and THEN checked to see if anyone else wrote about it . . .
Good job :)

Wooooo Hooooooo!!!
Excellent news for cycling this week. And I agree completely that it is excellent to have sponsors that fans can relate to and get excited about.

Just read the VeloNews article and one thing stood out
Looking forward, Vaughters said one team goal for 2009 would be to sign a proven "prolific" race winner
Let the rumor mill begin!

Just speculating,
and he’s not yet prolific, but if Garmin nee Slipstream signed Benna, would our site traffic actually bring down the intertubes? I say yes.

I just called to thank them
Phone: (913) 397-8200
They were…nonplussed, but pleased, I think would be the right way to put it.
I also asked for more simple, low-cost, very shock-resistant, very waterproof garmins, suitable for bike mounting & staying out in all weather (and over potholes, at speed).

Great news!
What a week we’re having. I’d say Slipstream and Vaughters are a Pro Tour level going concern for the foreseeable future. Two American teams with reasonable funding. Versus re-ups for the Tour. Dang… now all we need is for the riders to stay clean. [Ominous feeling…]

We can’t have the pre-Tour doping scandal until after the Euro is done and sealed. Though, with France out, lequipe does not have some time on their hands…

Great News
although I agree that I hope they don’t lose the argyle completely – it’s distinctive and that’s a good thing in marketing.
I see an opportunity for a lot of synergies here – just think the little voice on my Garmin could be Vaughters or various riders. Although I think I might get lost with Zabriskie giving directions :)

It looks like the Garmin logo
Already has a little blue triangle over the “N.” This in a way ties in with the argyle, so hopefully they’ll tie them together somehow. I love the argyle too.

Great news indeed.
...and it has to be said that both of these teams did a fantastic job of “earning” these new sponsorship deals, with their conduct and results this year. Cycling sponsorships are a very tough sell most of the time, so great to see these guys getting the deal inked.
