Team Columbia for Tour

here:

Kim Kirchen, George Hincapie, Thomas Lövkvist, Kanstantin Siutsou, Mark Cavendish, Gerald Ciolek, Adam Hansen, Marcus Burghardt og Bernhard Eisel.

Kirchen is the captain, but the team wants to try to win on every terrain. This team looks very good, too bad Barry missed out once again.

Hincapie, Siutsou and Lövlvist try to help Kirchen in the mountains, and Ciolec helps Cavendish in the sprints.

Too few words again... Let's try once again. And again...

actually...

Kirchen is the hope for GC but George is the ‘captain and tactical leader on the bike during the race’. That should be interesting. (Go George!)
I’m disappointed about Barry.

Kirchen

I’m looking for Kirchen to make an early move in the mountains; Siutsou too.

and to hear him talk,

post TdG press conf, he wasn’t planning on this.

Yeah

I’m thinkin’ he’s Rodgers’ replacement.

by ursula on Jun 25, 2008 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

no, actually

he started last year for Barloworld, but I’m not sure if he finished … he was as high as 3rd in the young rider classification after stages 9 and 10 The letour.fr search function (under history, to look up riders) doesn’t seem to have been updated yet to include 2007 (ie. Evans only has 2005 and 2006 listed), which would explain the “0 participations” listed there for Siutsou.

thank you!

I was putting together my (apparently bad) googling and specific recollection that he was asked about and definitely played down any thoughts of heading to France this summer. Appreciate the correction.

thanks!

It looks like he did finish, here’s the list of abandons for the 2007 Tour. He finished 32nd on GC, not bad at all for a first Tour, especially at his age.

Part of the reason that Barry left Disco was for the Tour

How many times is this guy going to get shafted? I like Barry. He’s a stand up guy and a work horse. I see retirement in his near future, what a shame.

If I just had one more gear, I...

maybe hincapie didn't want his twin on the squad

seriously, when barry wears those shades similar to hincapie’s, they’re almost impossible to tell them apart…

in 2006, during i think it was the dauphine when barry, hincapie, and egoi martinez rode together, you’d swear you were looking at triplets….

Barry and George

are really good friends so I highly doubt George wouldn’t want him there. Barry’s been hit with some bad luck the past year or so. He seemed to be going okay the last race but maybe the form just isn’t there. I haven’t read anything on his reaction. Maybe with the Olympic nod, he’s not as bummed with the Tour and is focusing for a good Olympics?

I had picked that up...

I think I was more trying to explaing to myself why he wasn’t selected. It hasn’t quite worked for me even with typing out a possible reason. He’s another one along with DZ and Horner that I am just going to miss reading from and watching clips of. They always bring good stuff to the table for our viewing and reading pleasure.

You are so not an idiot...

Reading what I wrote, typos and all, I can see why you thought I’d missed it. :-)
(I have even been reading what I typed before hitting “post” and I still miss stuff. Thank goodness we’re not graded on spelling and grammer here… )

so :) is not considered a word and I had to type something in

trying to explain Barry not being picked...

I was thinking that maybe it had something to do with the riders who are used to each other … Ciolek and Cav, and Hincapie/Hansen/Cav I think have worked together in various races IIRC, whereas Barry seemed to be at more of the climber/GC type races. I wonder whether if Rogers and/or Gerdemann were going to the Tour if they would have leaned more towards taking Barry as well… something I read somewhere seemed to suggest concentrating on sprints (Cav) and stage wins and leaving Kirchen to do his own thing on GC… in any case, disappointed again not to see him at the Tour (at least there’s finally a Canadian though, but was hoping for two at once!)

yeah like slacker

just for that , you’ll have to do the KOM preview too

please?

by lyne on Jun 25, 2008 6:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Hm

I might get to the KOM preview next. The white jersey should be fun to look at. KOM… I may have to do a flowchart.

oooohhh a KOM flowchart

can you incorporate red polka dots in it?

by lyne on Jun 25, 2008 6:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Well

I just think there are some candidates out there for the polka dots who have to sort through their options before mounting a maillot pois campaign. And what better way to document the complexity of these matters than a flowchart?

OK, maybe the day isn’t long enough for that. I still have three more book reviews to crank out…

no rush? what? what you mean when you say no rush?

Some us are trying to select a tour team you know. We need these vital tidbits to help move choices around. No rush. What ever dad…

Gavia…. sweetie… sweetheart, can we get you anything? Glass of water? Bottle of beer? Anything to make you more comfortable to help the fingers flow with the keyboard… :-)
