Lehigh Valley Classic - Live
Sort of. I came across a live ticker on CN for the Lehigh Valley Classic and dug around looking to see if there was a live feed. There is definitely a live feed, but I'm not sure what to make of it.
It's basically one stationery camera positioned at the finish line. So, you can see the riders fly by for 8 seconds, and then you see a bunch of people just standing around.
It's all quite bizarre, but if you have nothing better to do for the next hour, have fun.

I guess we can use this as a results thread as well.

Ha
Thanks for posting this. I’d had hopes for my own attendance at Philly Week, but it looks like the window is closing on me. But I’ll take what I can get.
And here they come....
And there they go….
It’s like i’m actually there. Mundane conversation for 28 minutes, then cheering and action for 12 seconds.
Rinse, repeat.
If anybody knows where there is a good place to grab a bite to eat, let me know.
Wonderful stuff
Shades of the 1907 version of Ben Hur. Sadly doesn’t seem to work this side of the Atlantic, but that’s what commentary is for, isn’t it. Man scratching butt, eh.
That is priceless
How you dug up that footage, and how it is spot on to my afternoon viewing, is uncanny. For all that missed the race today but are viewing this thread, watch Monty’s clip for about three hours and you’ll see how I spent my day today.
ha now that is funny
cycling news does have a live ticker.
Philly week is going to be awesome and I’m stuck at work…
oh and my money is on a Colavita win today, with Successful Living as the outsider.
cowbell, cowbell cowbell, cowbell, cowbell....
Screeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmm!!!!!!
(high five my e-buddy)
“dude, i can’t believe you wore your Milram jersey today”
awesome
i see somebody brought their terrible towel to the race
straight from Steelers mini camp.
And Lyne, it’s never too early for virtual beer. As long as I have someone to drink with.
Cheers
I see that the camera guy (or gal) is bored and panning around … making me nauseous actually.
hopefully, we’ll get to see the finish tho.
The Giro may have the pink jersey
but the Lehigh Valley Classic has the pink “Fashion Spree” sign across the street from the finish line.
Winner: Giro
YOU SAW IT TOO!!!!
Can you imagine if the whole crew was on this suspicious live thread. No spectator would be spared!
Oh, and since you're all here
I thought I’d pass along this Very Important Health Warning about drinking water from a bottle.
(In my day, we called ‘em DSLs)
wow
It took me about 90 seconds to figure out your abbreviation, but when I did, the pay off was definitely worth it.
Okay, I admit I missed this one earlier.
Does DSL stand for what I’m thinking it does?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
well I was wrong in my prediction for the women's race
it wasn’t a bunch sprint, but a break made it all the way and Ina Teutenberg won it.
does it seem odd
to have a race on Tuesday afternoon in the US? It’s hard enough getting people to watch cycling in the states, but to put it on a Tuesday afternoon seems odd. I’m not too familiar with the domestic scene, so I’m not sure if this is common or not.
yeah, most 1 day races are held on weekends
but Philly week has had 3 races for … what 20 some odd years, 2 on weekdays and the big one on Sunday.
of course, stage races have stages during the week
I cannot believe the scene
There are at least 6 motorcycles within 10 feet of the leader, and another 8 between the leader and the group, which is only 10 seconds behind. Seems very dangerous.
Welcome to the party!
I love the viewer count as well. I’m thinking about opening a few windows just to get it over the 50 mark.
Much better (thanks to team type 1)

if you scroll down
there’s a link to an article about “how to steer clear of speeding cyclists” . . .
I was wondering
how in the hell you get him on a plane and to the start line, that quickly. Answer: you don’t.
(There were at least a couple of others scheduled to do the same. I wonder if they made it.)
I would like to observe
what a bunch of addicts we are, going through Giro withdrawal, turning to some half-assed webcam for hits :)
the other stream is actually from a motorcycle
but it doesn’t have the charm on the immobile cam at the start/finish line
For those of you with
connections in the organizer community, let me suggest Joe Jefferson as the name to put forward when someone needs a race announcer. He runs the Antietam Velo Club, day job at Shepherd U, I think. Really good. Makes me wonder how Dave Towle continues to make a living.
One of them
Eddie Van Guyse was the main announcer (and kid stealer? just askin’) who was always on stage. Joe Jefferson (black guy on stage) and Richard Fries (white guy on course) were the other announcers. All are pretty good, but Jefferson is great.
I don't hear Towle.
I only hear Eustice. He is struggling to get things straight though.

Hi Gang.
Wow, even on a slow day we can all get together for some race watching. I love it!
What are there, like 30 people watching?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I think EuroPeloton
is also helping to announce but I think it was the rider sign in maybe.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I'm so happy right now.
More to watch to help slowly come down from the Giro withdrawals.
Go Slippies!!!!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Video!
What’s with all the Rock guys off the back? Also, does the sun ever come out in the Lehigh Valley? I’ve got a few hundred wet miles in my legs from there.

no waaay...
is that because they practice a lot?
lol, okay, i really have to step away from the keyboard and go do a thingy.
must. not. get. sucked. in.
Hmmmm
He must be unaware of the outcome of the second world war. They didn’t show so well then.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
a spot of bother
with the abyssinians also, i believe.
but there’s lots of kinds of cleverness not involving wars. italian painting and architecture? definitely clever.
I don't have to go any farther
than food :-) Cleverest people on the planet on that front (imo).
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
It seems
the network told Eustice to dumb it down as much as possible.

hm
They probably don’t expect much from their audience then? Honestly, I can sympathize, not everyone has the luxury we do of talking Cycling without having to explain it.

Race Update per CN
Leaders
Jeffry Louder (BMC Racing), Frank Pipp (Health Net p/b Maxxis), Luis Amaran Romero (Colavita-Sutter Home), Svein Tuft (Symmetrics Professional Cycling Team)
Chase group
Ivan Stevic (Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team), Michael Friedman (Slipstream/Chipotle p/b H3O), and Alberto Curtolo (Liquigas) at 0.25
Peloton at 0.55
according to the announcer
CVV was the leader at the Giro, but “succumbed” to other riders. That is an interesting way to put it
Meh
He’s not my type.

just this race
I thought the same thing when I first heard it but played it back mentally and decided it was just pertinent to this race.

Ugh!
Hard to follow when a serious day at work. I’m watching though anyway so at least my priorities aren’t messed up just yet! :-)
Hey is Mikey still in the break?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
CN
15:42 EDT
The new break is Ivan Stevic (Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team), Kasper Klostergaard Larsen (Team CSC), Bernardo Colex Tepoz (Tecos – Trek), Martijn Maaskant (Slipstream/Chipotle p/b H3O), John Murphy (Health Net p/b Maxxis), Eric Baumann (Team Sparkasse), Glen Chadwick (Team Type 1), Svein Tuft (Symmetrics Professional Cycling Team) and Luis Amaran Romero (Colavita-Sutter Home). But they aren’t working very well together. There is a lot of talking.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Amaran Romero
had some real leadout legs on him on Sunday (if he’d have just kept moving, instead of sitting up, 2nd would have been his, easy). But yeah, Stevic.
I recognize him on the bike - distinctive style
he’s been talked about for years in the Quebec cycling press
he's lurking...
really he doesn’t want this break away. Jeepers guys.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
riders are
Caleb Manion (Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team), Kevin Lacombe (Kelly Benefit Strategies/Medifast Pro Cycling), Matthew Wilson (Team Type 1), Derek Burke (Pezula Racing), Daniele Bennati (Liquigas), Kirk O’Bee (Health Net p/b Maxxis) and Fred Rodriguez (Rock Racing)
Are the announcers not watching the same race we are?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
On CN
Yuri Metlushenko (Amore & Vita-McDonalds Pro Cycling Team) unofficially taking the sprint to the line for the win.
I don't think so. But I don't know who it was.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
wow Yuri Metlushenko (Amore & Vita-McDonalds Pro Cycling Team)
according to cyclngnews- that’s big for that team
fun race, wished we had better announcers
2nd
16:07 EDT
Kari Menzies (Health Net p/b Maxxis) grabs second.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
man can't believe I'm going to say this but I wish it was Towle announcing
he recognizes the domestic riders quite well
Before the other feed went off
I so have to say I loved seeing my slippie guys! Even a glimpse of Mr. Huff. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Only on this site
Can we get 150+ comments for a domestic circuit race on a Tuesday, with no live feed and 2 guys rejected from the Dave Towle school of broadcasting.
(shaking head in admiration)
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
Nope
Somebody in North America had to work today…..................
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
So glad you covered for the rest of us then! :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
CN Top 3!
16:15 EDT
Ok, we have the top three results for you:
1 Yuri Metlushenko (Amore & Vita-McDonalds Pro Cycling Team)
2 Kari Menzies (Health Net p/b Maxxis)
3 Brad Huff (Jelly Belly)
I am so excited for Brad! A step up everyday!! Woo hoo!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
What a fool I was...
... not to go into this thread until Nikki told me about it! I did get that disaster recovery plan finished today that I’ve “been working on” for the last three weeks. Funny that.
Nikki… i didn’t boil the brats… I simmered them… in Hoegaarden and sliced onions.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
no worries, there's more live racing on thursday, and we can mock the commentators again
think I’ll work from home that day ;)
Good Man.
I’ll still send you some from Miesfelds when you get back from vacation. With those, no simmering until after they’ve been soaked and grilled to perfection! Here’s proper instructions. Oh so yummy!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Wait wait wait... hold the damn phone... wtf is THIS thing...
Ham Grenades 3 lbs: #SMO002
A coating of apple pie spice and cinnamon before smoking gives this small ham it’s big flavor. This popular new ham is great for breakfast as well as dinner.

It’s the Holy Ham Grenade of Antioch!
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
Ha! I'm hoping Gary from there
sends me a pic from this meat monster thing they have that isn’t on the website. I think they named it afer Al Capone and this thing is a heart attack waiting to happen. If I get it, I’ll send it your way.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Okay so Chuck doesn't have a photo
but here is a description of a signature they have -
“You must be talking about our famous AL CAPONE roast! It is a boneless pork loin eye roast, cut in half. Then stuffed with Italian sausage, smoked ham, hard salami, swiss cheese and black olives.”
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I think that food has been...
... banned in most western states. South of Interstate 80, I imagine they take that goddamn thing and deep fry it.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
You say that
like it’s a negative thing.
I’d love to take a crack at that (with a dozen scrambled eggs) after a 4 hour ride. I bet between Van P and yours truly we could finish it.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
My culinary ancestors invented...
... the Schweinshaxe and I, myself (pictured on the left) have suffered it’s consequences. I’m not afraid of The Pork. I will, gratefully, subsidize this activity to the tune of one Al Capone roast, turkey deep-fryer and case of eggs, scrambled… just to see it happen.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
Tell you what
At some point I will fly out to the West coast to do some riding and visit some fellow PdC’ers. When I do, we’ll arrange to get together and consummate a 4 hour ride with a historic feast. And I will chase it with a 6 pack of Hoegaarden (an excellent recovery drink btw).
I bet I can get SSmith in on it too. Anyone else located in Dan’s neck of the nape…...er nape of the woods?
(Dan, name the reference).
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
On your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness...
... so I got that goin’ for me. As far as the four hour ride goes, I will be happy to motorpace you guys… y’all wear knee-sliders right?
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
Good! Good, good!
How ‘bout a Fresca?
Don’t think the motorpacing didn’t cross my mind.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
I say we hijack the ADT Events Center...
... and practice our Keirin skills.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
ooooh, this could be kinda of fun.
We need to figure out how we can get us all there. Find like an off long weekend where theres no racing (or maybe better yet plan it for a good race and do this afterwards). We need gavia and lyne to help. Chris could probably, maybe drive down. Dan already solved his babysitting issue on a previous post. Jimbo? Sui Juris? Others?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Come on lyne...
PdC has become a meat market. Wee ladies tend to go for the Benna type, the men, anything that can be eaten. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Chris...
... can we get a shunning here?
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
210 messages...
Is it time for a new thread? :D
Or are we trying to see just how hard we can cram these replies against the right hand wall before we break through into some other sports blog?
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
please
do.

And seriously, this thread has done more for this vegetarian’s cause than I could ever have done on my own.
We could just keep going on this one
during tomorrow’s race just to see how far we can push it! :-P
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Is there a limit to how far we can push this to the right
before it finally blows and goes back to the left?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
that's what we're trying to figure out
Okay I had to google the word, but Mr Sui Juris, did you actually know the lyrics following it?
I think he might secretly sing this song as he rides!
Let’s all join him, shall wee...
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Ok... here's a test... let's see how it handles...
Bennati = Armadillo
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
I almost spit my drink out onto my computer!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I'm all for it
but we should call these guys ahead of time.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
tee hee hee!!!
O-good god, Chris just changed the color scheme on us. This will take a few minutes to adjust to!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
You two look so happy and ready
to go in the first shot and then in the 2nd you like your cat just died. Too funny. And it looks like you ate the entire thing? ! ?
We need a road trip party for all of us. I can totally supply the brats, burgers, and Al Capone roast!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
It was the middle of October...
... and we were in a Bavarian restaurant in Mannheim (couldn’t actually make it to Munich). The look on Matthias’ face (on the right) in the “recovery” phase of the meal says it all I think.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
Um, it looks like Matthias
was just euthanized and somehow managed to keep his eyes open. Very impressive none the less.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
That's nothing compared to my last day in Germany that trip...
1. Breakfast… eggs, cold cuts and bread, butter and jam, coffee, coffee, coffee
2. Midmorning snack… Bratwurst on a kaiser roll with mustard and a beer
3. Midtags Essen (lunch… sort of)... leak soup with sausage and a slice of cake. and a beer…
4. Post Midtags Essen snack… jambon y fromage crepe. and a beer…
5. Dinner… flamkuchen with aperitifs, roasted roladen in a tomato sauce with roasted potatoes… and beer… cake with coffee… and a Ramazotti… or three.
6. Post Dinner Afterparty… sausage and bread and wine
7. Midnight Snack… two beers and another Ramazotti.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
I think I'm gonna be sick just reading all that.
I imagine you passed out for about 2 days after that trip?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
You mixed wine with beer and sausage?
What a Hun.
I still don’t see why Jan had such a tough time with his weight. Everything on your list looks completely organic.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
Well... mind you I ate most of that in Heidelberg...
... and from what I understand, Jan spent most of his time in Freiburg :)
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
The way I heard it
Jan ate both Freiburg and Heidelburg.
Any time you attach ‘burg’ to a town’s name, you know there’s going to be trouble.
"Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."
HeidelBERG but FreiBURG...
... there’s a subtle Teutonic difference. The question is, which *burg has Bettini been consuming!
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
You do realize we could set
this up. I can ship this beast out to you guys and you could tackle it and let us all know how far you get. I’ve seen it at the place and it hurts to look at. I think it’s like 4-5 inches high after they stuff all that in there but I think you can get it cut to length maybe?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I might opt for making...
10 pounds of Carnitas… I don’t dine of anything stuffed with Olives.
Stuart O’Grady, the Australian quintiplegic, was seen still climbing to the finish line… using his lips alone.
This would work great for
brinner too. Nothing better than brinner I say (had some last night after my ride).
