Tour de Beauce

Over on cycling news, they have posted that Slipstream won't be racing this as planned as they can't post a full team. The race is no longer listed on Slipstream's site and a few new races have been added to their June calendar. Here's the provisional start list. There are some great riders to keep an eye on so hopefully Lyne can help keep us up to speed this week with it. :-) From the article...

The USA will be represented by Team Type 1, made up of many former Navigators riders which dominated this race the past two years. The UCI Continental Pro team Slipstream-Chipotle-H30 was scheduled but suffered in the streets of Philadelphia. They cannot post a full team. Jittery Joe's is the other American UCI team with strong ties to the region through their equipment sponsor Louis Garneau. The Mexican Tecos-Trek team will be back with many strong climbers to contend the rolling parcours in defense of the climber's jersey. This will be a tall order with the inclusion of the Colombian National Team.

Tour de Beauce is in its 23rd year and is known at the hardest stage race in North America

Rolling terrain, (very) bad roads and often bad weather. And aggressive riding from teams like Tecos, Sparkasse and all the Canadian riders.

I don't know if it is the hardest, but . . .

. . . the Tour de Beauce is one of the more fun races on the N. American calendar.
Usually, the riders are all still in top form from Philly, but the intensity of the peloton is much lower.
The race tends to take on a feeling of a race amongst friends, if that makes any sense. Still intense, but nobody wants to go for the win at all costs.

Many times, it is a chance for some young guy to pop up and get noticed.

Symmetrics report from Stage 1

http://blogs.symmetricscycling.com/2008/06/10/tour-de-beauce-stage-1/

they’re glad the Tecos rider won (ie no jersey to defend) but that 3 of their riders are up there on GC (Tuft, Evans, Meier) so that they have options for later…

Damn...

Now that’s what I call local scoop. Keep us posted. I haven’t seen anything on Slipstream’s site. Would they have had the stuff there before today that maybe it is okay? Very interesting and this would affect tour training for sure.

Apparently Metlushenko just crushed them in the sprint for stage 2

The gap was big enough during the sprint that he got 1 sec over the second placed guy. Talk about a sprint! This guy is killing it on this side of the pond.

If I just had one more gear, I...

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
