Take Back the Tour!

Why, don't mind if I do...

For the record, I respond favorably to anything that says "it's our time" on it. I am just SOOO sick of all those "it's someone else's time" campaigns.

Is there some significance...

... to you, oh hardcore fans, of the rider they chose to use in the clip? I have no idea who the mysterious rider #129 with Boulangere written in big, friendly letters on his ass is. Since he’s not wearing a helmet, I’m guessing the clip is before my time…

Tommy Voeckler from the 2004 Tour during his time in yellow!

What a ride from Tommy V that year! It pretty much made his career and got him a lot of fans including me.

I agree… made me a fan of his too…

One of the great moments in cycling that year was on Stage 13,

to the Plateau de Baille. Remember the expression on his face on Stg 13 when he realized he still had the maillot jeune? He kept it the next day, too, by 22 seconds, and through the next day, a Rest Day, only to lose it in Stage 15 to LA. Poetry.

I was glued to that tour because of him.

That youngin’ was pure inspiration that year. Happy to see them using him in the promo!

i see a film about Lance a week ago

and he talking about Bruynel knows correctly what guy US Postal gave the yellow jersey initially.

And when JB apoint Voeckler, Armstrong ask him, “are you sure?” (Something like that..lol)

One of the Simon's I think?

Memory hazy… he and Kivilev were gifted a huge lead during the early Lance years… Fuck it, I’m going to look it up.

Eh...

never mind. I guess it must be Voeckler. Same basic story: unheralded (and most likely non-doped) French rider hangs on to yellow when everyone left him for dead.

Thomas Voeckler!

Always my hero. His heroic tour turned my wife into a fan!
She made me bring a 10×12 photo of him into the delivery room when she went into labor…for inspiration.

Small world

He made my wife a fan too. She still calls Voekler her “boyfriend” because of that year… And the first one of you asshats that makes a crack about my wife gets uninvited from my Ronde party next year…

It's funny

that for whatever reason, the three topics around here that get people all fired up are doping, cycling tv problems, and Levi bashing…

by Jimbo... on Jun 10, 2008 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I can understand

being heated with doping cases. I’ve been heated with ctv, and I like Levi but accept that he’s not for everyone. I’m okay with all the mixed opinions on all of these. You want the best discussion – make the argument for your opposition so you then get the full picture. Good stuff. The difference for me is expressing an opinion versus being rude. You guys can make fun of me and pick on me all you want but I don’t think any of us should ever be rude to each other. That’s just not funny or nice.

OK, another really cool thing about VS

They run the Ballzee ad all through the Tour de France. No more spitting on your balls to get them clean, just use Ballzee. I can’t wait.

Kinda like the

Those types usually run in the afternoon.

I think the morning live stuff is usually okay with commercials. It’s the evening one where you have to record so you can FW through them.

We had that Monday. :-)

I heart that man! If you can’t laugh WITH the fun he has I sure hope you can laugh AT it. He and Huff have done “designs” when they were racing the track. Funny stuff, almost as good as the halloween costume pics. Those rocked!

That brings tears to my eyes

Thinking up designs, OK. Drawing piccies on your chest with crayons, well OK. But carefully tracing out the design, masking it off somehow then carefully waxing off everything else. Just typing that is making me cringe.

Or at least previous ones were. I think Mike is going for the Gillette sponsor. :-)
