Well, Roll had a few words for Beltran
sadly, that’s all I’m going to get for this AM. Off for a much needed ride. See everyone later.

Bonjour, mes amis.
Coffee and doping talk to start the day…Bobke saying “how stupid do you have to be” to jeopardize cycling at this point in time, here at the most prestigeous event…

Commercial for the Tour: "next time you are riding along in your car at 50mph,
strip down to your underwear and jump out of the car: that’s what it’s like to crash in a cycling race.” Yikes, would that appeal to the rodeo and cage fight fans? Oh, yeah, I guess it would… :-)
Phil saying he heard that Beltran tried to escape the gendarmes as they took him away, cannot say if it’s just rumor or truth.

They're saying a lot of the things in the pre-race show that we've said here...
the level of conceit, etc.

Roll summed it up pretty nicely I think...
The conceit required and also the total disregard for his teammates, the fans and his sponsor is almost incomprehensible at this juncture in our fight against doping in cycling; it’s nearly ruined the sport in the past it’s taken away sponsors, it’s taken away media attention, and, most importantly, it’s ruined the event for a lot of fans around the world. How stupid do you have to be to do this anymore?Well the credibility of the sport is on the line and this Tour de France had to go off smoothly. And every rider… the scrutiny is incredible… to think that you can avoid that is foolish, simple minded and downright idiotic! Beltran, unbelievable

Strange side note...
... I think that’s the first time I’ve ever heard Bob Roll correctly pronounce the Tour de France correctly. He must be pissed.

Morning
Marc Madiot was interviewed on France2 earlier today. Lilian Jegou is in hospital with a rather nasty fracture to the wrist, complete with at least one dislocation. He also has (and I’m not totally precise here) some sort of injury, perhaps a chip, to one of the vertebrae in his neck. It sounded nasty but no-one was talking of him having a broken neck.

Sounds like they are actually targeting riders that tested abnormally before the Tour this year.
But I have not heard any facts about the process. I’m sure they’re also testing the top 3-5 riders, stage winners, jersey wearers?

In this article, the head of the French anti-doping agency says they are targeting some riders during the Tour and that Beltran was targeted because of his blood values in the pre-race tests.

The UCI
certainly targeted the “men in black” previously, and I think they were always able to do targeted testing. But I suspect they’re being more aggressive about it this year and more public.
