Le Tour Stage 13... LIVE!!

Le Tour Stage 13

Tour-sprint-live-1_medium

Definite sprint stage today, though as always the question is whether it's for the stage win or leftover points. There are a handful of teams who have to be starting to sweat it out a bit. Little over a week left in the Tour, and four stages will be off-limits to all but the very strongest. This leaves five stages, starting today for certain teams -- Bouygues Telecom, Liquigas, Lampre, Agritubel -- to do something. [OK, Agritubel had Feillu in Yellow, but no stages.]  It wouldn't shock me to see Garmin launch someone in the break too. We'll see... Enjoy!

Leakygas

also hold white at the moment – and a good chance of keeping it in team till paris so I don’t think they’re terribly disappointed. Kind of a interesting squad; 2 up-and-coming GC riders who they’d be happy to place in the top 20 on GC and their 2nd string sprinters. Pozzato is their one established top shelf rider, but needs the stars to align to get a result in a GT. So I don’t think they’re going to be unhappy (well apart from the Beltran thing, ahem) with the tour so far. Bweeg also had the polka dots for quite a while there, so would like more but hard with the talent they have to expect much else.

Lampre OTOH – not so happy I’d expect. Bennati was good last year after some early troubles. It shows the value of having a top shelf sprinter – no problems riding multiple GTs and giving the team a focal point.

AFP Reporting

that Prudhomme had issues with Gianetti and suspected SDV after Hautacam.

http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5gOdObBQ-BHwd80NSF_0K-uUfz1jA

It bugs me that David Millar was singing Gianetti’s praises yesterday after the team “withdrew”. Note to David… better to keep you mouth shut and have people think you a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

more from CN

14:22 CEST
Ricco has denied any doping. Yesterday’s comments from Christian Prudhomme were interesting: he also cast doubts on the performances of Ricco’s team-mate Leonardo Piepoli and Juan Jose Cobo on stage ten to Hautacam, as well as saying he didn’t trust team manager Mauro Gianetti.

Reading between the lines, does this mean there could be more positives from the team? The results of the anti-doping controls for more recent stages are awaited. Certainly if any more Saunier Duval riders are found positive, the team’s future will be in doubt. Right now, all activities are suspended until further notice.

Compare Peeps and Cobo to Schleck on the climb.

Schleck went in and out of oxygen debt several times.

Peeps and Cobo were talking to eachother while they rode away from him.

So not that strange that he is riding away from Schleck

But you can't found something guilty of 1 stage or climb

Cobo has proved it more than Schleck in the bigger mountains. Schleck more an explosive type. So he is running out more quickly and if you get away with 2.. Your morale get very high..

If I just had one more gear, I...

by SpunOut on Jul 18, 2008 10:46 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

here's my reasoning

CSC has a testing program. I’m assuming the heads of state group and Schleck are trained to about the same level, and produce a similar range of Watts/kg.

Schleck was clearly climbing at or slightly above his limit. He dug too deep a couple of times and had to slow down.

Cobo and Peeps were climbing quite easily—not even breathing hard. So they were probably only at about 80% of their max, possibly less. So they can produce 20% more Watts per kilogram than the heads of state group?

To me, Cobo appeared to be pretending to struggle, which to me was a dead giveaway that they were doping.

CSC also had a testing program (less rigorous and not external, but a program nonetheless) when Basso and Hamilton were on the team.

Can the dope really be that good?

I mean, does the dope increase your performance so much that you have to pretend to be working hard? Really?

That would make it far more potent than EPO. Look at video of riders from past Tours who have admitted or been busted for EPO. Look at Riis climbing Hautacam in the 1995 Tour. He’s not pretending to struggle on the climb.

My internet is good. Storms up here were really bad an lightening fried the router. :-(

I so miss ya. I will be trying to get an email to you shortly. :-) No blood clots found (got clearance for drive up here) and doc said to get ass on bike as soon as possible – HA! Now he said that with a smile making STRONG notation that it is to include NO intensity for at least 2 weeks but to get out and ride to help with leg fatigue. I so likey the surgeon doc man.

CERA is the new vicoden I heard. Worried Brett might discover it… oops. Sorry that was so bad. Being this close to Green Bay is very ugly as that is ALL that is on the news these days.

by nikki on Jul 18, 2008 9:50 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Ok, so

you can get back on the bike but only light spinning for 10-14 days. That will definitely help with the circulation if that’s all the issue is.

As for Brett – if you could shove him into the trunk of your car and deposit said car in Lake Michigan, that’d be great.

I’m inclined, too, to think that the doping rate in the NFL is 99.9%.

The only non-doped players are ones with allergies to the PEDs.
