Any sign

of Sam-(in)San(e) yet? Assuming he’s inthere

by Chris... on Jul 22, 2008 9:32 AM EDT   0 recs

Astarloza went on the attack on the Lombardie

and is in no-mans land. I think SamSan would have been marked had he gone. He’ll wait for the Bonnet.

Good sign

his teammates are trying to get up the road. Or they’re ditching him,

The eternal question

Does Le Tour just go through the most unbelievable parts of France, or is most of France just spectacular?

Neal Rogers in the VN ticker:

“You really have to see the climb to believe it,” he said. “It’s a monster. You look up and you see these vehicles that are just little shiny dots, and that’s where you’re going. Then you get there, and you look up again.”

Andy will have to do a lot of work

on this stage.

I am sure the rest of the field is not looking forward to him getting on the front.

by KevinK on Jul 22, 2008 9:43 AM EDT   0 recs

Shumi pacing himself

It looks like Schumi is using some of those minutes he got. Riding very smooth cadence there – not fast, but probably best for him. Looong climb.

by Markk on Jul 22, 2008 9:44 AM EDT   0 recs

It will be interesting

to see if he can stay up there and help Kohl. If Kohl gets away over the top with a teammate, that will be a dangerous move.

by KevinK on Jul 22, 2008 9:46 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Schumi's haul

red number tomorrow? Yep.

Stage win today? nope.

"If writing too much about the Classics is wrong, I don't want to be right."

by Chris... on Jul 22, 2008 9:47 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah - He's thinking Kohl to me. He can descend though...

Descent may make this stage but I’ll take Cunego for the Stage. Not a hard pick at this point.

by Markk on Jul 22, 2008 9:48 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Kohl

I never quite understand this. By the time Kohl connects with him, SChumi will be depleted. He’ll be around long enough to give Kohl a pat on the back, and that’s it.

"If writing too much about the Classics is wrong, I don't want to be right."

by Chris... on Jul 22, 2008 9:53 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, except that he hasn't been exactly charging up the sides of the Cime...

... unless I’m mistaken. I thought the idea was to open a break and then soft pedal it up and try and get the timing right. Isn’t that what Colom did in the Giro and what Hinc’ and Popo did in the Tour last year for the Accountant? Just strung out between the gaps and breaks?
