My close friend decided to have her wedding shower on the 9th. What was she thinking?

Wow... and you two are close?
I might be rethinking that… LOL!

Well, if she's really a good friend
she’ll understand you having to skip the shower.

Link?
Do you have a link for this schedule? The only thing I can find does not list times. Are these times EDT/PDT?

I've been using
NBC’s website to get up to speed on stuff for the Olympics.
Here’s a link. If you go to the main page for schedule you can select your zip code and such.

Non-cycling but a bummer...
Paul Hamm has pulled out of the gymnastics team. I was looking forward to seeing him compete again. Serious talent there.

I love Ninja Warrior!!
...and I loved seeing Hamm compete. C’mon now..how can you not cheer for Nagano, the fisherman or Takeda , the fireman. Nice Ninja Warrior reference Dan!!

I haven't watched it since Makoto Nagano won ...
... I figured I wanted to let a few seasons slip by first… so I can watch all four nights at once. “Wipeout” is a horrific bastard stepchild by comparison. Once that first round of Ninja Warrior is over, that stuff gets seriously, seriously hard… watching Katsumi “Mr. Ninja Warrior” Yamada gripping those fist sized plastic globes made every muscle in my body hurt…and I felt really bad for him each time he couldn’t make it past either the net or the wall in the first round!
Or the triple jump Olympian guy that built the entire course in his backyard and brought all the major contenders over to practice… how he totally burned all his matches until he was just toast on the ground…
Love it…
Bueno Carlos!!!!!

Uggh. I'll be attending a computer graphics conference the whole first week
of the games. At least they have wireless in the LA Convention Center and with the time difference that helps…..
The men’s gymnastics is one of my other fav events. I’ll miss Paul Hamm too. He’s amazing.

huh?
5 a.m.-5 p.m. Men’s Cycling Individual Time Trial
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Men’s Cycling – Road Race
A twelve-hour time trial? An 8-hour road race?? Oh no, it must mean that…
...if we want to watch the men’s TT, we have to suffer through half a day of many sports, tons of athlete profiles, and loads of commercials—just to find a couple of minutes of TT updates here and there? How’s this gonna work?
I have a feeling I’ll be scouring demoinoid.com for torrents of Olympic cycling from non-U.S. sources…

i think you're right on the coverage
I foresee 36 actual minutes of cycling being covered for the road race and 19 minutes for the TT.

Did they really show >3 hours of the women’s RR in 2004? Somehow, that seems unlikely…

WCSN.com?
Someone mentioned in an earlier thread that WCSN may be covering but now that I looked at their site, I can’t find anywhere that they are actually showing any Olympics. Yes, lots of story coverage but no live/recorded feeds.

nbc olympics website
will have over 2000 hours of live streaming for 25 sports, which includes cycling…
unfortunately, no schedule as of yet for the live streaming…
and, no, WCSN, will NOT have any olympic coverage

as regards to recording on tivo
it all depends on how much room your tivo unit has available to save recordings….

Canadian coverage
I’d been researching coverage (including NBC) for the RR particularly, as I’ll be away until the 9th … was thinking about doing a post, but you beat me to it (and I hadn’t researched the track stuff yet, so thanks!)
Anyway, for any Canadians out there, or with access to Canadian TV stations, here’s what I’ve come up with so far:
Men’s RR: live time = 11 pm Aug 8 – 5:30 am ET Aug 9.
CBC Olympic Prime Show 6 pm-12 midnight ET supposedly live coverage (I’m sure mixed in between everything else) – but obviously if the race doesn’t start until 11 pm then there’s only 1 hr they could be showing there.
nothing listed for the midnight -3 am ET show on CBC.
TSN 3-6 am show – listed again, hopefully they’ll at least get the finish and the medals live …
Men’s TT: live time = 1:30-5:10 am ET Aug 13
main CBC coverage listed at 12-6 am ET on Aug 15 (!)
CBC schedule – link to pdf’s of each week at the bottom
supposedly CBC will be streaming live stuff online as well, but no schedule I can find as of yet … and it will probably be geoblocked (just as they do for hockey games I think). CBC Bold/Country Canada is showing only equestrian and sailing, no idea what they’re showing on CBC Newsworld (supposedly 145 hours of something), and I haven’t yet located any schedules for Radio-Canada (= French CBC TV).

it looks like the cbc schedule
is saying exactly which events start in a given block… so that the cycling starts at 11pm eastern, but would continue into the next broadcast block
