Thought I was going to miss the start
but here I am. Yea!
CN reports there’s heavy rain and wind by the Great Wall.
cool!
also….can i use your winning shot of proman….mine was sadly blurry…though Shelly Olds came out clean as did Sarah’s pic….
sure (if it's good)
haven’t looked at them yet. It was tough to shoot the men’s race, don’t think I was able to get a shot of the finish at all. I was surprise that given the Elite nationals going on, and Rochester that it was a good race for both thr men & the women.
I'm here too
It’s quite a civilised hour over here too. It’s just when you all talk about beer and I’m sitting here with a bowl of muesli that it feels odd.
Good little spectators
why don’t the chinese just put them on a different road altogether. Makes crowd control even easier. For a view on what it was like on the ground then have a look at the post just under Ronald
Morning... Evening... whateverthehell it is...
...and no… I’m not marrying any of you…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Actually...
... I probably have a couple running around the apartment you can have… none of them fit in my moto panniers… except the case that came with the Mamiya medium format… that one ain’t goin’ anywhere… cause the mamiya’s still in there…
now I can just get the film advance fixed…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Is that Danilo di Luca in front...
great… jerseys I can’t recognize combined with racer’s I have no clue about…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Crowds and spectators for the Ladie's race...
just as large… just as strange.
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
cause they know crashdan...
.... likey the women leggy
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Either it's nasty ugly smog..
... or nasty ugly weather
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
about 10:10 pm
chatted a bit with Jodi before leaving
and bummer that we never connected with Jimbo.
You didn't see a mustachioed wonder yelling "lebowski"?
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
In honor of Jimbo...
... i shaved off my vacation beard finally and left behind a Jimbo-Mustache…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Is that a Jimstache?
or a Mustbo?
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Incredible drama
Incredible tension. What’s that Italian chowing down on? Looked soft and starchy. Kinda chewy. She’s still working on it.
CBC showed the start live on TV
and emphasized how this is likely Leigh Hobson’s last race before retiring. But, I need to go to sleep and can’t watch …
okay....you know it's the slow part of the race when
NBC online is giving “tidbits” about the American riders:
Neben is 34, and was diagnosed with skin cancer last fall. Caught early, so she’s fine now, but with regular skin checks.
Armstrong began as a triathlete, competing in the Kona Ironman world champs. But osteoarthritis ended her running career, so she began cycling full time.
And Christine Thorburn is a rheumatologist in Palo Alto, Ca. That’s right, in addition to being a pro cyclist and a 2 time Olympian, she’s a medical doctor. No biggie.
I know that Ted handled all of the PR for the team
He set me up with the Webcor gals at worlds last year….co-owner? wow….I had no idea.
Here's that epic Wrubleski photo
I posted on the preview thread…

I don’t think she’s been diagnosed with cancer or osteoarthritis, done an Ironman or become a medical doctor. Good thing she’s just a Canadian and NBC doesn’t have to talk/write about her – ‘til she opens a can of Canadian Prairie Whupass!
What's in the tube they just sucked down?
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Are teh Venezuelans really that poor
I can’t recall ever seeing in a race at this level someone handing the empty bidons back to the team car.
cn is really reaching for comments....
The high humidity causes the riders to sweat a lot, so they need to drink even more than usual to keep from getting dehydrated.
doh
nbc explains race radios....HA!
Most of the riders have race radios. When you see them press their ears, they’re trying ot hear a message from the team car through their ear pieces.
more NBC insight....
If a rider up front slows just a bit, you’ll have to slam on the brakes. If an attack happens, you’ll need to sprint with everything just to hang on to the draft benefit. The back of the pack is like a whip.
The flip side is that, when you’re in the back, the pack’s movements are magnified.
Pelotons are a pretty cool tool in cycling. The front rider expends a ton of energy fighting the wind, while riders in the middle are protected, and can cruise along using 30% less energy, or more.
30% less energy or more indeed Phil...
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
If you touch your brakes ...
... you can quickly loose 20 places…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
BBC is just as bad
every time they pass a tollbooth theyy remind us that “the riders don’t have to pay”
Toll booth...
... time to get climby
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Neben is road captain.....
but since Armstrong is favored in the TT…how much will she really ride for Neben?
Cool...
on an entirely other note… Teddy Atlas is providing color commentary for boxing. Teddy Atlas is a very, very cool guy… his autobiography is definitely worth your valuable time to read.
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
rain really starting to come down...
... obviously the Weather Control system is working
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Super slow mo...
... that looks like Lyne’s former avatar
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Most dudes
like women’s legs. But the super slo mo probably cost big bucks so they gotta use it. Probably have a quota. What are we at, 50 km?
Just for you Dan...NBC
The rain seems pretty heavy now.
Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea for Italy to design all white uniforms…
Hi guys!
This is like the after hours party, same theme, mellower vibe. Carry on! Sadly, I’ve got to go to bed, again. DS Little Bear was all over me at 6am… again. Not good times.
I watched the TV replay of the men’s race today—guess that’s how I’m seeing this race too.

Taking it easy tonight...
... trying to pace myself
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
That reminds me
I gotta download some UFC torrents. Got a good 6 1/2 hour file of yesterday’s race off the BBC today.
All 6.5 hrs?

Yes
3 GB, 6.5 hrs. Not super full-screen quality, but not too bad.

You'd think they'd know
how retarded it would look. Draws even more attention to the lack of spectators.
You'd think the could proof read their menu's and their signs too...
... but there’s slim chance of that …
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
perhaps
I wonder if you could pull off that opening ceremony in any other country. Best display of group behavior since… who knows?

She'd better be as aero as possible
if she’s spending that much time in the wind. Go! Hanka initiates this one instead of covering…
K upfernagel breaking off the front?
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
You may think that
but there are a lot of men watching who would disagree
Hm
sounds like I’ll have to look at the race photos on my home laptop, just to be safe.
OK, sleep beckons. Have a great time all!

I'm telling you somebody needs to investigate what happened to all the kit designer
are they all missing? are they on strike?
Russian taking a flyer off the front...
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Oh jayzus, just what you need when you're trying to break away
Nailed by the enormous splash/wake of a camera moto. But Alexandra Burchenkova makes it clear and is the first to get any gappage today.
It better be...
... cause I can feel the weight of missing zzzzzz’s starting to build up.
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
I'm there with ya...
.... I might need to conserve my energy for my attempt at the time trial…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
I really want to stay up for the end of the TT
Even though I’ll have to get up and be in LA by 8am Wed. morning.
I think I will
I made a pot of coffee. Quite a big one. Made it pretty strong, too. Had four cups already. Feeling pretty good. Kinda wired. I think the pace is picking up. Maybe not. Still a big group. They’re starting to climb now. Almost at the finish line for the first time. Where are my Canadian girls? I’m sure hoping they do well. There’s Longo off the back again. Wow, look at that puddle. Ah crap. Crash! Ah shit damn. In the ditch. Damn. i was afraid of that. At least it was on the climb, not on the descent. I hope nobody crashes there. Wow, I’m kinda wired. Yeah, pretty nasty little crash there.
Ah shit damn?
I think you need to add a little somethin’ somethin’ to that mug o’ joe to bring you back into the normal zone!
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Longo's acting kind of odd back there
She’s been hanging off the back. You wouldn’t think that’s a good thing.
And others...
... but the korean rider reaaaaaly suffered.
That was nasty, nasty, nasty
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Nasty crash
A korean rider wobbled, skidded, then fell into a two foot deep ditch at teh side of the road. Which was full of water.
Over the hump
and on the nasty part of the climb now.
Science of Sport Dudes have their post-race report on the men’s race up:
Interesting Analysis of the Pollution Situation
“I don’t think that the riders can be ‘trusted’ to provide an accurate assessment of whether the pollution impacted on their performance, simply because it’s almost impossible to differentiate between the heat, humidity and pollution. So, when riders like Stefan Shumacher say that they had a headache because of the pollution, I think it only further serves to propogate what I think is actually a myth about the impact of Beijing’s pollution.”

Attack Attack Attack!
Clear. Nice launch. I think the Russians have been drinking from my coffee pot.
The Two Russians
who have gone on the attack have 44 years between them, 19 & 25. Boyarskaya will have to solo to the finish to match 49-year-old Jeannie L-C’s camera time so far.
I've seen that happen on the Tour
Robert Miller lost a mountain stage because a helpful gendarme sent him down the team car exit.
Boyarskaya is on her own
her lead is up to 1.54 yet every time the cameras come to her she seems to be struggling.
Goodmorning/night everyone
Poor russian needed a map there. Real pro raceorganizing there
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
Translation: Leader = Tete de la course= Kop van der wedstrijd
Thats what I think anyway , difficult with a new language in cycling
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
At the bell
Boyarskaya has a lead of 34s on the pack. pooley is somewhere in the middle.
Guderzo of Italy and Pooley of GB
have caught up to Boyarskaya.
Graphics said that first lap was over 37 km/h
With that climb that is a really fast pace so no wonder there hasn’t been much action off the front.
Guderzo, Pooley, Boyarskaya caught
Maybe 25 in the lead pack now. Very tense and lots of looking around. Kupfernael and Willock were off the back.
for a sec I thougt that rider was wearing a face mask...
just her glasses pulled down
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Nice graphic showing their position in the switchbacks
and the speed – 21 km/h – about what you’d expect here. Pretty undramatic attack from the smooth-climbing Kazakh, but she’s not going to get away. Caught. Now Soeder goes with her shades on the tip of her nose as she peers overtop.
WOO HOO!!!! Christiane Soeder!!!!!
Cervelo Lifeforce hottie!!!!
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Field strung out. Swedes massing (x2) at the front
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
But because she's Chinese
expect to see extended coverage of her heroic struggle to rejoin the pack.
And believe it or not
Jeannie Longo is still up at the front.
With the peloton really whiping up the pace...
... one touch of the brakes and you can slip back 20 places Phi
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
They're going through a tunnel now...
... sorry for the little bit of picture break up…oh… wait a minute…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
If Soeder beats Johansson , I'm putting a curse on your moped.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
My moto is British...
... it’s already cursed.
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Conditions are really bad
there are big rivers flowing across the road.
Even more incredible
was the fact that she seemed to lose 50m on the rest with 500 to go.
Does her jersey
have a yellow panel on the front, or is that just the pollution.
Tatiana Guderzo - very aggressive throughout
Got away solo, other four bridged up, Cancellara couldn’t get across this time so the five made it alone.
sooo...
G. Cooke
S. Johansson
B. Guderzo
Is that the size of it?
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Now THAT'S how you celebrate across the line...
... aaaaaaaalmost as good as Robbie Hunter in le Tour last year
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Moi aussi...
... Bon Soire mes amis… g’night!!!
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
