Hypocrisy from WADA

Sorry, I'm just so fed up of the hypocrisy that comes from WADA that I just had to have a rant and get this off my chest...

What's got me angry is the latest suggestion from WADA that it may ask for cycling (and weightlifting) to be excluded from the Olympics because of the history of positive drug tests in the sports.

Such a stance is fine, if you're going to apply it equally to all sports (and here's what makes me mad) because I notice there's no suggestion that athletics be excluded from the games too is there?? This is despite the number of Russians who were excluded just before the games and the high number of athletes (especially the sprinters) from recent major championships who have all tested positive in the subsequent years...

I'm not denying there's still a problem re drugs, but cycling is far from being the only sport with such a problem and is in fact the one doing the most to combat it - which I guess makes it an easy target (kind of the same way in which some people seem to take pleasure in trying to kick those cycling pro-teams who run strong anti-doping programs)

Which is pretty much how American sprinting got into the current mess in my opinion.

Huh??

I don’t agree with that, I just wish that WADA would treat every sport the same and if they’re going to chuck the sports out then atheltics should be out too – I’ve no problem with them testing at all and that’s not what I was implying (if that’s what you think – maybe it isn’t I can’t tell).

And equally I’ve no problem with them telling a sport it’s out until it cleans up (though I doubt any sport will ever be 100% clean unless there is rigourous and continuous testing across the board and even then you can’t account for individual stupidity)

I was being a bit

sarcastic (wrt to WADA). Often doesn’t translate well – sorry about that.

The idea of tossing sports for doping is just loopy, though. If there were any sort of even application of the idea, we’d end up with the Opening Ceremonies, air rifles, and the Closing Ceremonies.

Wasn't it an air rifle-guy who got busted

the other day for some form of adrenaline- inhibitor?

Which wouldn't be so bad...

... if they hired Zhang Yimou to do all further opening and closing ceremonies… I, for one, have a need now to watch Curse of the Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers and Hero repeatedly while interspersing those viewings with repeated Greatest Hero in China (1-4), Iron Monkey, Legend of Fong Sai Yuk (I and II), Last Hero in China and, above all, Tai Chi Master screenings.

I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...

Ah....I get you

Who is to say air rifle is clean grins

And sorry for not getting what you meant – it is one of the curses of the internet that it’s not always easy to get what someone means grins again

Ridiculous!

Swimmers come up positive quite often too.

Cycling is the red-headed stepchild

Remember when OP first broke. There were reports of soccer players, tennis players and track and field athletes as well as cyclist. Did anyone ever hear any names from the other sports?

Then again, cycling wounds are self-inflicted.
