Wow, who brought the picnic to go with the Croatian suit?
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Nah no vid
for me either – something is not letting it start. I should have kept the womens up – it had the mens going.
I left women's rolling and my video is of the guys
but the comments haven’t moved.

Thaaaaanks for the memories
NBC video popup, lower right box, related video, “Athens 2004: Men’s time trial, American Tyler Hamilton rides to gold on the road…” What ever became of that dude anyway?
Well... the internets are all screwed up over here...
... can’t even manage to get silver light downloaded…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Commentary Box says:
To avoid traffic on the route (since it’s two laps of the circuit), the organizers have the racers starting in groups. We have 3 more to go in group 1.Then, there will be no more starters for 42 minutes, to give the racers time to get off the route before the next group begins.
So that means bedtime for me. I thought it’d be done by earlier but not with those big breaks. Have fun all!
I was wondering what the gap would be
42 minutes is going to be a bit much for me, too.
So we are looking at about 2 hours, or 1 AM finish for me.
I think the aspect ratio is messed up on my video feed
No, it’s just Gesink.

entertaining camera angle and zoom as they start out of the gate
I suppose they mean to focus on the legs. Yeah, that’s it.
the nobodies
In 8 minutes, the Daily Show comes on, followed by the Colbert Report. Tell me why I should not go off and watch these for an hour and then return to cycling after I get my LOLs in for the night.

Splits
@ 10.8 km
Anyone know if there is a results page that will get updated as the race progresses?
I think CN had a ticker during the womens race.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Canada leads again at the first split
First out of one in the women’s race and first out of four in the men’s.
funny...
from nbc – Can the white sock power of Cummings overcome Svein Tuft’s 10.8k time check time?
Man that s-bend looks tough
I’ll be interested to see where different riders pedal during that set of turns. Last guy coasted/didn’t pedal through the whole thing and sat up pretty early on it.
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Ok y'all... I can't get in anywhere...
the series of tubes over here is a wee bit clogged… having trouble even getting to google (PdC doesn’t have any issues oddly).
Guess I’ll catch the highlights tomorrow… g’night
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
I'm locked out too
I’ll stick around for a while. Y’all can keep me informed.

Cancellara doesn't start for an hour forty-five.
Next groups starts in 27 minutes, last group an hour after that.
Must tough to be the rabbit in this chase

MEDICI
I think Medici is going to win. I have him in the pool.
Oh
that sounds terrible.

Seriously
Holandia can’t come up with another chronoguy besides Clement? Too bad Dekker’s in purgatory.

Interesting pictures of them checking positions for legality
I think that’s what I just saw
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
quick hit & run from Utah as I have to get up in egads 6 hours
Hot, hot, hot here.
How do you know you’re at a bike race? when the people you meet at Albertsons at 11:30pm are soigneurs (and one odd looking man)...
oh did I mention it was hot
So I have a murphy bed in the rood, any special tricks so it doens’t close on me?
and no air-conditioning… did I mention it was hot?
g’nite, sweet dreams and go Spartacus
What is on those flags being waved at the start/finish line?

That is my view from Frostburg
Down to Cumberland (also the direction of my morning bike commute).

Dwayner gives a smile to the camera moto
2:35 up on Medici at the third split, it was 1:40 after the first lap.
So will wave 2 go off after last rider through the second check point?
Or is there a wait until all riders are clear of the course?
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Not on my feed yet
but i think I’m trailing the field around here
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
looks like I have a 2:30 lag on on everyone else
Typical for my riding style
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
I just got an AFP link article
and it has C and Levi for our riders. I must say C is pretty good to fly back over so fast like that. :-) I’d link it but it has spoilers from today’s events.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
NBC knows its audiance
From the commentary:
For any Americans still awake, here’s your 5 minute DZ warning.
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Well good morning then! :-)
It’s 1:44 am here and I’m seriously going to pay for this.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
text commentary + text to speech program
- Zabriskie, of Team Garmin-Chipoltle, isn’t necessarily suited to all the climbing in this course anyway.
- He seems to be regaining some form, but I’d be surprised if he was his usual sharp self here in Beijing.

And they just typed his back was from Paris-Nice. WTH?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Clearly missed that Giro thing
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Wish we could send notes to Loren
Paris Nice—ah no the Giro…
Canadians watching on TV
are watching men’s synchronized diving. Half the time it’s two guys diving, the other half it’s two guys showering.
it's too bad we're missing some of the starts...
Ryder and Nibali should be out there somewhere, too…
Cummings comes in 22 seconds down on Tuft
It’s between Tuft and Gesink for first wave honors. Since Tuft is Canadian, he’ll probably get beaten by a couple of seconds.
Cummings
The NBC Commentator keeps calling Cummings “White Socks”. The guy’s socks are just 1 or 2 inches longer than the other guys. What’s the big deal?
He's going to finish something like 14th
and Canadians will roll their eyes and think he’s a no-hoper, and we’ll just roll our eyes right back at them because we know we just saw a great peak performance from a great Canadian athlete and a first-class dude.
Where is "Dwayner" coming from?
That was a solid ride. He’s got a great future coming.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Okay. I think I need to go back to Lyne's site.
I think she has a piece on him. I must be confusing him with someone else.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Just so ya know
I’ve got a second live thread set to launch in a bit, and Gavia put up a post-game thread for after Cancellara finishes. Keep an eye out. Goognight all!

3 Steve Cummings (Great Britain) 1.05.07
4 Vasil Kiryienka (Belarus) 1.06.11
5 Matej Jurco (Slovakia) 1.07.52
6 Matias Medici (Argentina) 1.07.53
7 Hossein Askari (Iran) 1.08.46
CN
Hmmm maybe the wind is picking up for the later guys
or Cummings and Tuft are doing better than was expected compared to the big boys
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Great shot of Gesink looking kinda wide-eyed
sitting beside Tuft post-race. Dwayner was so looking so cool, answering Gesink’s questions.
sure it won't be 5th or 7th?
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
I'll take your word for it - afterall you called CVV at the Tour ;-)
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Tee hee LOL!
I think Menchov has finished 6th like in 3 of the GT TT’s.
C’s back home here and was on the radio this morning. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Cummings holds the fastest first split
through the entire second wave. Hesjedal 45 seconds down on Cummings after 1 lap.
Goodmorning/night/whatever everyone!
A bit of cycling with breakfast was a nice way to start the day.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
Thred 2 popped
Just saying
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
I say we wait till the 3rd group starts and flip over.
Sound good?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Yep if anyone listens to us that is
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Cummings, Zabriskie (+:17), Gesink (+:23), Tuft (+:23)
after one lap. Current leader in the clubhouse Tuft was epic on the climb on the second and moved over 30 seconds up on Cummings.
DZ looks faster than his time
and his time is pretty good especially since he’s likely not to fade in the second half
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
I wonder if they use special shorts for the TT bike
Sitting on the edge of the saddle is not my favorite position ;)
Bottle holder on back of saddle, tucked out of the way
But you must be very careful not to insert it in the wrong ar
Now that helmet will be very useful w/o the buckle attached
how many total seconds will a flapping buckle cost one?
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Russian's switch riders to some Menshov guy whose in 12th or something
now if Menchov would finish the ride he’d get that 6th place
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
That's the problem with body doubles - look similar but just not the same quality performance
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
please remind the camara man - no shots of shirts off for this ride
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
I guess that means time to switch threads?
Just spinning the pedals in the hills of Western Maryland
Canadian Content
Svein Tuft won three national TT’s in a row, then Ryder Hesjedal won it last year, which was good, since he could be part of that Slipstream Giro TTT squad with multiple national jerseys, but he couldn’t defend the title since he was racing Le Tour, and Tuft took the jersey back. Now they’re both racing here today and it looks like Tuft is going to take national honors. That’ll probably be a surprise to a lot of people, especially after Hesjedal’s large performance in the final TT in the Tour.
