Ricardo Escuela wins twilight crit at Tour of Utah
Everyday when I talked to the Sucessfull Living team, the team plan always included that Ricardo Escuela was going to win stage 3, the twilight crit at the Tour of Utah. And the fast Argentinean delivered the goods, outsprinting Fast Freddie Rodriguez (Rock Racing) to the line. Toyota-United's Jonnie Clarke was third.
What else can you say about a crit? The riders went around a dead flat four-corner course with a headwind on the backside for 60 minutes plus 3 laps.
Oh and one of Salt Lake City's finest was giving out jaywalking tickets during the race. Almost got one.
No changes in the overall general classification. The stage is set for a shoot out on Saturday’s Queen stage as only 38 seconds separate 12 contenders from Caldwell. Stage 4 is the 98.1-mile (159 km) Snowbird Road Race that starts in Park City, climbs over five KOMs to the mountain top finish at Snowbird Ski Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon - a total 14,778 feet of climbing. No changes in the other jerseys either.
Easier to let the photos do the talking... on the flip
Justin England (Toyota-United) throwing kisses
Smiles on the start line
Immediately, Garmin-Chipotle's Pate, Frishkorn and Danielson went to the front to control the peloton
Ben Day (Toyota-United) took a solo flyer off the front which lasted about 10 laps
Tom Danielson (Garmin-Chipotle) did a lot of work at the front
Fans come in all ages
Ben Day is still off the front solo but not for long

Teddy King (Bissell) is about to join him but they will be reeled in soon

Still the GARmen at the front

Best Young Rider Peter Stetina (Garmin-Chipotle), Caldwell and his shadow Oscar Sevilla (Rock Racing)
Less than 10 laps to go

Sprint to the line
Ricardo Escuela (Successful Living) wins

Teammates

Best Young Rider Peter Stetina, Yellow Jersey Blake Caldwell

Fast Freddie Rodriguez (Rock Racing), Jonnie Clarke (Toyota-United)
I want one. Brad are you out there?

Any idea why comments are closed on Fred Marx's fanpost?
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Could be because,
Gavia has placed a center page link and photos this morning after the initial posting…

because i put up a center page post
with the photos. because they looked good that way. i didn’t see fred’s post until after i’d done it.
then, rather than removing fred’s words of wisdom? i closed the comments to keep us from having multiple conversations about the same thing. i can re-open them if you prefer…
Thanks
Thanks Lyne for your coverage of the Tour of Utah. I guess you got one of the famous welcomes from our diligent police force about how to properly cross the road. Don’t worry all of us who have moved here have gotten this one along with being told the proper way to get a DRINK. Keep up the great work and you’ve just gained a reader. Love the photos.

The ultimate irony...
was watching this young gun write one guy up as a dozen others walked right in front of him…. On a closed street no less. None of the other officers were doing anything more than traffic control… I’ve been a Utah resident for over 20 years and have never been flagged for J-Walking.. Is that like missing a merit badge or something? ;)

Hey, THAT'S ME!!!

That ticket was so bogus. Closed street, blocked crosswalks, selective enforcement.
I’m thinking about going to court to fight this. If anybody can help (Like pics of the blocked off cross walks) I would appreciate it.
shoot me an e-mail. shullln@comcast.net

I'm surprised
He didn’t ask the Utah state question..
Sir have you been drinking?

small world...
I don’t think that I have pics of the blocked crosswalks as I try not to take too much of the tape & barriers in my photos
thank you - and pull up a seat and stay awhile
but nobody told me the proper way to get a drink – have I been doing it all wrong all these years?
Got to say that so far, the scenery has been amazing, one of the most beautiful stage races I’ve been too, Major kudos to the course designer (and I think that’s Burke)
lol well we had a discussion with Louder the day before if it was truly going around in circles
or was it squares. and then the (very) bright man that he is, said that since they cut the corners it might make it oblong.
Yes we all get punchy after awhile
just got back from today’s stage – have no idea if I got any good picks as I also was not in a media car today. Well I know I got the winning shot as I followed FM’s direction to get to the finish and it worked perfectly.
brilliant
and yes, crits are oblong. if you’re riding squares, you’re mos’ def’ doing it wrong ;-)
glad today worked out well! can’t wait to see it, fo’ sho.
mmm, goldfish.
not sure if today worked out yet as I was not in the media car and as there was only 1 road to the finish
I had to hightail there pretty early. I did stop in 2 spots at the beginning of the stage… but Fred probably has much better shots as he was on Alpine Loop
good thing tho is that I was able to have lunch today !
Nope shut out.. Mostly
See details elsewhere… I may use one of the really heinous ones as an example of what PShop will not fix… ;)

I messed up my fill flash settings
NIce sharp foreground, pleasing background blurred subject. The best (read most interesting) angle on the KOM was horribly back lit. As was the sprint in Midway but that was shopable. Then some munchin placed a large dust bunny on my sensor… Of course you never see those till you edit and sort later…

whoa I posted way too fast - everything is out of whack
will fix after I have my snack of champions: cold grapes, a beer and whole wheat goldfish
I did mention
That your hotel was built nearly 35 years ago right?? Cheap shower doors and no AC, yep definite signs of age in a building…

Always love your pics Lyne and FM your additions are great!
Look forward to more write-ups. I never get enough of the races here in the states so keep them coming!
Downers today was great. The weather here is fantasitc this year. There’s some serious stress in the air with the National Jersey on the line tomorrow but the riders have still been a blast to mingle with. Anyone interested can check my blog for a small write-up. I’m WAY to tired to clean up pics and I took very few but hopefully tomorrow will be better. I’m hoping and cheering for Brad from Jelly Belly to get the Jersey back – just don’t tell C or Daniel okay (shhhhhh….). The weather looks to be great tomorrow and I’ll be having fun meeting and talking to the guys again. Huge Thanks once again to Jelly Belly. Danny VH was great today with joking around with us. Good stuff! Rock Racing took 1 and 2 tonight followed by Jittery Joe’s. It was dark for the podium. I have a couple great pics of it but they are really dark. Better pics tomorrow!
