Looking Forward to Varese
The UCI has today announced the country allocations for the World Championship road race to be held in Varese on 28 September. The lovely people at wvcycling.com have put together a leetle chart with flags. Head on over and have a look-see.
The top countries are allowed nine rider teams. Among the lucky niners are: Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and Australia. Less predictably, Luxembourg and Switzerland will start nine riders, thanks to the big results of the Schlecks and Kirchen from Luxembourg and Cancellara from Switzerland.
The United States will start six riders, as will Great Britain and Denmark. Portugal is also among the teams allocated six riders.
Some twenty others will receive three starting spots. Canada, Norway, and Sweden will have three starters. A small number of countries, including Mexico, have received space for one rider.
Heh, that has to be the most boringest post I've ever written. But eh, sometimes the news just isn't very exciting. Maybe next time.

From the Olympics, I thought Switzerland only had ONE rider...
… how can they possibly kit up a field of nine? Is Federer going to ride too? Maybe we can get an all Gilette team and give Swiss citizenship to Tiger Woods and Thierry Henry too!
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Luxembourg will have to annex part of Belgium just to field 9 people.

And the Swiss will shortly invade Lichenstein...
Last’s year’s inclusion of Lichenstein in the Swiss Tour was just a faint to survey the country prior to the invasion.
Next: Canada annexes the US.
Luxembourg
Wow. If the U.S. got to send the same proportion of our population, we would have a team of over 5,700.
(And yeah, before anyone else points it out—the Schlecks would still beat us.)
Oh I dunno
I think once you get over 1000 riders in a single race, blocking tactics become pretty effective.

Marcel Wyss and Steve Morabito
off the top of my head the only others I could think of. But a search over at cqranking.com for all Swiss riders lists 197 names. I recognized four names and I’m pretty sure three of them have retired.
Oh, and Nicole Cooke lives there. Maybe she can go all Julie Andrews to ride.
+1
for gratuitous Victor Victoria referencing.
Oh Give me a Hoooomeeee…
Where the Buffalo Roooammmm…
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Hmm Julie Andrews, Switzerland
If only I could think of a suitable disguise.
Never ever
have I been so proud to say I have no idea what you’re talking about. :-)

I can think of 5
off the top of my head…
Cance, Elmiger, Schoop, Bertogliati (sp) and Albasini (but then with his broken bones I don’t think he’d make Varese anyway).
Actually I saw
In that Tour of Qinhai Lake (sp I know) that Iran dominated the mountain jersey. I can imagine some Iranian sports authority making a push in cycling.
Carlström and Veikkanen
But what about the third rider? I guess Helminen will do the TT, so he’s going to be in Varese anyway. Vastaranta, what’s he doing nowadays?
Bork, bork, bork!

Nobody really knows about
Vastaranta, he has vanished from the road cycling world and gone into mountain biking, at least that’s the latest I heard. Too bad really, he is a great guy and a very good cyclist. He did have a lot of injuries, maybe that played a part of it. But no-one here really knows what he is up to nowadays, guess he want’s it that way, since he is impossile to get reached at…
Kellu (Carlström), Jussi (Veikkanen) and Matti (Helminen) are on our historic WC team, yay!!!
