Race Rpt - Elk Grove CRIT

What a fun weekend to watch some racing! Today was the Crit stage of Elk Grove's 3 day race weekend. I again had a great time and can not say enough about the riders I've met. Really great guys!

Today's stage started out with a few trying to get a little lead and then all of a sudden a small group of guys were off. They got quite a lead and Toyota United had their train going to keep them to where they could get them back. The break eventually was 6 riders and included Tyler Hamilton of Rock Racing. Bryce Mead was in the group as well and it was fun cheering him on!

The stage was won with a great effort in the end to pass up KBS by Brad Huff of Jelly Belly, followed by David Veillieux of Kelly Benefits, and Freddie Rodriquez of Rock Racing. The overall was won by David Veilleux who overtook Hilton Clarke's lead going into the race, followed in 2nd place by Hilton Clarke of Toyota United, and Tom Zirbel of Bissell.

I had a blast today and got to meet Tyler Hamilton and Fast Freddie before the race. I also stopped over by Jelly Belly again to say hi to Brad and Bryce. The guys were a lot of fun to talk to and the entire team is super great with fans. Matty Rice was enjoying the relaxation before things got started and Danny Van Haute was super nice. The entire team gets my vote for being one of the friendliest out there. Thanks guys!

The results for the stage can be found here. The results for the overall can be found here. CyclingNews is also covering the race and those write ups can be found here.

As Bruce noted in his thread on Chris Horner, Chris broke his collarbone in yesterday's stage during the run into the finish. Chris put on his smile today though and was a trooper talking and interviewing during the stage. During the last few laps he moved off to the side but stuck around for pics and hello's with fans. He had signed my pic during the race and I was able to see him and Fast Freddie after the stage and thank them both and congratulate them.

I was able to print up some of the pics from Friday's TT and was able to have the guys sign them today as I saw them which was pretty sweet. Plus I got some new pics and had a pretty fun time in general. I'm hoping the group of us that were hanging out with John being caught up on the jumbo-tron doing a strange hand wave thing doesn't make the TV coverage... :-) John was interviewed during the race and got to talk about Christian. Many of our guys are heading to Beijing tomorrow and I wish them all the safest travels!

Another highlight of today was meeting PopUp Rolen! I think he might be my new local hero and I am looking forward to cheering him on next year in some cycling races! Don't let him ever fool you, he is in great shape and quite the triathlete. He biked out to the race from the City and I hope the headwind on the way back wasn't too bad!! It was great meeting you!

Great meeting you too!

The headwind was not as bad as anticipated and luckily the rain held off until I got home.

It was great meeting you PopUp :-)

Downer’s big race is the 17th so you’ll have to let us know if you have a race that weekend or if you’ll make it out. I hope your wife can join you too if you do. :-) Happy to hear the ride back home wasn’t as bad. We didn’t have any rain out our way last night. I dropped my cousin off at Ohare this morning for China and the sky opened up on us and just poured. Yuck. It looks to be clearing up though so I am hoping the flights weren’t too delayed.

Much better picture of Brad Huff

than the one that always comes to mind for me. From the Tour Of Missouri last year:

I hate that shot!

Thankfully he was okay but watching that and then seeing all the youtube video’s was not fun.

Brad is great and I’m super excited to see him back on form.
I will be cheering for him at Downer’s as I’d love to see him back in the National Jersey!

now for all the stuff Nikki left out

So Friday night Nikki has some pictures taken, and on Sunday she wants the riders to sign their picture. So how does she get this done.. She asks the Mayor of Elk Grove who is busy in the annoucers booth to get Chris Horners signature on his picture. Oh did I mention that at this time Chris was being interviewed… Nikki has reached new levels…Of course the Mayor is very kind and gets this done for her.

You're a #$%&^!

Ha! Thankfully you’re not sharing ALL that I left out!

I should’ve known to have talked about our fun today as I was truly asking for it! It was pretty funny though. If you can get up to the guy, have the man running the thing do it for you! Tee hee! Hell, that move even impressed John, well okay, impressed is a bit much as he just continued to laugh – at me. I still smoked ‘em on the stats of the guys though!

For the record we saw Chris after the stage and I thanked him for the autograph and he of course smiled, and said – it was a good pic and his pleasure. :-P Rose was watching the whole thing and I’m surprised she didn’t add as that as he handed Chris the pic, the group at that table all looked over to check it out. Fun times!

is that a personal attack

LOL… You are so funny and speaking of stats the birthday one was the best, They asked like they really needed to know when that kids birthday was and you just shot out a date. They almost fell over, or was that from the wine

Why yes, I think it was. It can be found at the base of Crashdan's pyramid. :-)

And yes, the birthday one was the best by far. They were so serious with their questions on him and a few others. Having not a clue, to provide a date on the spot was pretty good, especially after a few glasses of wine! Good times! So glad you were there to share although you pose one problem – you’re a witness. That can just never be a good thing. LOL!

I will only spill more details if asked

If anyone want info on the behavior of one gals trip to the tour of elk grove all they have to do is ask. So until then…

Thank god you're not sharing anymore...

I was fearing you were going to tell them how I’m bound straight for hell too. LOL!
