La Vuelta Prologue... LIVE!!

La Vuelta Prologue... LIVE!!

Here we go, one more grand tour. Should be an amusing stage, though I don't know how much hay you can make in a team event in 7km. Nice warm up though. Enjoy!

Morning all!

I’m leaving shortly for Cape Cod, just wanted to get in first and wish everyone a nice weekend and good vuelta. I’ll be without net access til Monday so make sure to flog me in the race threads and I’ll catch up with you later ;-)

Bye Drew

Probably until Monday Kroon will dominate this race, winning the TTT singlehandedly and stage 2.

+1 - Can we send Drew anywhere else to keep his hex off? LOL!

So starting times

I see CTV says they are live now BUT I get “no valid URL” when I try to log in. Oh boy.

Then again the race isnt supposed to start until what 9:41 Pacific so I presume they aren’t live yet?

by ursula on Aug 30, 2008 10:51 AM EDT reply actions

I'm logged in and the media player says

that it’s “on air now” — but were at least another hour or so away, if their start time is correct.

cool

an evening affair. Should make for some nice images, though the race itself doesn’t interest me much.

So funny. "nikki" was taken so I had to use something else.

Check out Maggie’s site – CVV Fan Club. Good stuff and she’s doing a great job at putting stuff together for it (with some fun help from "someone"). Tee hee hee!!!

i see that ctv still has the wrong time for coverage to start... now 5.20 GMT

the CTV media player now loads, no picture, no sound.

Which may be OK, given there’s not yet anything to show? Ah, now i get a still, pixillated picture… and we’re good on picture now, just no sound…

by JFS_PGH on Aug 30, 2008 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions

god damn cycling tv is not letting me in

depending what link I click, it takes me to the “buy the package” page, or tries to pop up an audio-only window with an invalid URL that will not work with either Safari or Firefox. So much for using the “on demand” stuff to check whether the live links will work.

And yet, and yet, there are those three different resolution click boxes, saying “on air now” in a pretty star. So it MUST work, right?

by JFS_PGH on Aug 30, 2008 12:30 PM EDT reply actions

streaming now

tho i have no clue who is talking

try an add on called “IE Tab”. Opens up an IE engine in a firefox tab.

poor streaming

using medium, not streaming well at all, always pauses..not as smooth as the old player, very annoying.

by jack376 on Aug 30, 2008 12:58 PM EDT reply actions

Same for me. Started at 1200 kbps, which froze and wouldn't start back up again,

and the 800 isn’t too much better: buffering, buffering, buffering…. And I don’t know who the commentator is, either. I thought A&B stated they’d be back for the Vuelta; I was REALLY looking forward to hearing them, after so long.

No.

I got a pop up that has the player
Then clicked on the Live Events tab near the top right
Then selected the stream

by Ron... on Aug 30, 2008 1:01 PM EDT reply actions

I'm in using the medium feed.

It OK so far…..
using Firefox on a Mac.

by Veloki on Aug 30, 2008 1:01 PM EDT reply actions

I couldn't get it to work on my Mac in Firefox

Safari shows video, but it’s a constant flashing of the live screen and a black screen. Truly bizarre.

by PopUp Rolen on Aug 30, 2008 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I only get sound with safari, mid speed,

and keep pulling the “play head” (little triangle and line indicator) back and forth. Larger player than previous version, but still a pain in the ass to use.

by JFS_PGH on Aug 30, 2008 1:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Every time I start thinking about getting a subscription to cyclingtv I look at one of these threads and decide not to. LOL!

Anyway, cyclingfans currently has audio streams for those of us non-cyclingtvers. They’re supposed to be posting looking for alternative video streams too.

dont know if you can get in directly but it's

mediaPlayerAudioOnlyUrl.wvx?LOAD_LIVE_EVENT_ID-42557&SPEED_TO_USE=HIGH&DB_OEM_ID-20300&USE_THIS_STREAM_ID_ONLY=&KEY=FUIAASMSBTTXLF.20080830165613

That assumes I typed it right, can’t copy and paste.
Despite the name it is the midspeed video, not high speed audio.

I finally get everything up and running

and now I have to run. Damn it.

Keep up the commentary. Will try watching on demand tonight when I get back.
Have a great day all!!!

They are the only team so far

who look like they are riding as a team. The others have all been a bit ragged from time to time.

by Monty. on Aug 30, 2008 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed! a perfect paceline is a powerful thing.

Lampre and QS definitely both a herd of cats. Didn’t see Milram and Rabo finish.

by JFS_PGH on Aug 30, 2008 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Nice image

They don’t always plan how they will accommodate riders dropping back as they go round corners. Too often the loose guy gets the best line and the paceline has to go around him.

by Monty. on Aug 30, 2008 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

If it freezes or the sound freezes, just tug the indicator at the bottom

The reverse or fast forward arrows do NOT work to re-establish the sound, so far as I can tell.

by JFS_PGH on Aug 30, 2008 1:22 PM EDT reply actions

Umm indicator?

Sorry for the question, but what do you mean there?

by ursula on Aug 30, 2008 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

don't know the right name

at the bottom of the picture, you should see a bar.
to the left of a bar is a counter, counting up.
The bar itself goes gray as the feed loads (from the left) with possibly a dotted area to the right.
There is also a vertical line with a triangle that shows where in the feed you are (what is currently shown in the picture). You can click on this to drag it to the left, replaying the feed… or to the right, getting to the cutting edge of where the feed is loading.

If you click on that triangle/line, and drag it just a tiny bit each way, the sound pops back on. Do not overshoot the right end of the gray bar, or it may cause problems with the loading.

Euskaltel are off

I don’t know how they time this, but some left when the starter hit two, some on one, and only the real slowcoaches waited for the go.

We don't know. The announcer has not introduced himself this entire stage, either.

He probably did in the beginning, to give him some credit, but he should know that internet streaming watchers can never get into the coverage for the first 15-30 minutes…at this point in time, we have no idea who he is or where A&B are (a major disappointment for me. I was looking forward to their off-the-cuff comments on the Tour.)

by Ruthann on Aug 30, 2008 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

he might say his name again at the end

this is blah blah thank you for viewing….

As a complete guess

Gary Sutton, brother of Shane who coaches the GB trackies. Shane is doing the updates on the Tour of Ireland this week, and Gary shared commentating with Hugh Porter in Beijing for the BBC.

the Shane in Ireland is Shane Stokes

I believe the announcer is Matt Keenan

He did the announcing on the Versus web streaming when they had it on for the few days. that was provided for a few days that they provided before paul and phil went live for the later parts of the stages.
