La Vuelta Prologue... LIVE!!
La Vuelta Prologue... LIVE!!

Here we go, one more grand tour. Should be an amusing stage, though I don't know how much hay you can make in a team event in 7km. Nice warm up though. Enjoy!

Morning all!
I’m leaving shortly for Cape Cod, just wanted to get in first and wish everyone a nice weekend and good vuelta. I’ll be without net access til Monday so make sure to flog me in the race threads and I’ll catch up with you later ;-)

Bye Drew
Probably until Monday Kroon will dominate this race, winning the TTT singlehandedly and stage 2.
+1 - Can we send Drew anywhere else to keep his hex off? LOL!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
So starting times
I see CTV says they are live now BUT I get “no valid URL” when I try to log in. Oh boy.
Then again the race isnt supposed to start until what 9:41 Pacific so I presume they aren’t live yet?
I'm logged in and the media player says
that it’s “on air now” — but were at least another hour or so away, if their start time is correct.
live to ride, ride to live
cool
an evening affair. Should make for some nice images, though the race itself doesn’t interest me much.

Watching now.
Huff has come through with 3nd fastest so far (I think).
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
And that was 2nd.
Spinelli in the lead for the time being.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Cozza still on course,
I think w/ fastest split
So funny. "nikki" was taken so I had to use something else.
Check out Maggie’s site – CVV Fan Club. Good stuff and she’s doing a great job at putting stuff together for it (with some fun help from "someone"). Tee hee hee!!!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
goodmorning all...
It’s nice that the race organizers are letting those of us stateside sleep in on this Saturday this morning. ;-)
i see that ctv still has the wrong time for coverage to start... now 5.20 GMT
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
the CTV media player now loads, no picture, no sound.
Which may be OK, given there’s not yet anything to show? Ah, now i get a still, pixillated picture… and we’re good on picture now, just no sound…
god damn cycling tv is not letting me in
depending what link I click, it takes me to the “buy the package” page, or tries to pop up an audio-only window with an invalid URL that will not work with either Safari or Firefox. So much for using the “on demand” stuff to check whether the live links will work.
And yet, and yet, there are those three different resolution click boxes, saying “on air now” in a pretty star. So it MUST work, right?
streaming now
tho i have no clue who is talking
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
got it working...
…couldn’t use firefox though…but IE works fine, took a while but got through.
Save The Legs!!!
If you are hard core on using firefox...
try an add on called “IE Tab”. Opens up an IE engine in a firefox tab.
would like to know who the commentator is... missed it earlier
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
Don't know who you've got
but these are the starters

I think I'm done
trying to watch procycling off the internet … this is truly fucken bad.
later…
live to ride, ride to live
poor streaming
using medium, not streaming well at all, always pauses..not as smooth as the old player, very annoying.
Save The Legs!!!
Same for me. Started at 1200 kbps, which froze and wouldn't start back up again,
and the 800 isn’t too much better: buffering, buffering, buffering…. And I don’t know who the commentator is, either. I thought A&B stated they’d be back for the Vuelta; I was REALLY looking forward to hearing them, after so long.
ah, nope
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
No.
I got a pop up that has the player
Then clicked on the Live Events tab near the top right
Then selected the stream
I couldn't get it to work on my Mac in Firefox
Safari shows video, but it’s a constant flashing of the live screen and a black screen. Truly bizarre.
I only get sound with safari, mid speed,
and keep pulling the “play head” (little triangle and line indicator) back and forth. Larger player than previous version, but still a pain in the ass to use.
Tinkoff fastest so far 8.33
Silence Lotto in 3rd at 8.33
Make that 8.41 for SL
Rabo just into 2nd 8.34
dont know if you can get in directly but it's
mediaPlayerAudioOnlyUrl.wvx?LOAD_LIVE_EVENT_ID-42557&SPEED_TO_USE=HIGH&DB_OEM_ID-20300&USE_THIS_STREAM_ID_ONLY=&KEY=FUIAASMSBTTXLF.20080830165613
That assumes I typed it right, can’t copy and paste.
Despite the name it is the midspeed video, not high speed audio.
this is the 400 (low) url
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
I finally get everything up and running
and now I have to run. Damn it.
Keep up the commentary. Will try watching on demand tonight when I get back.
Have a great day all!!!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
And two minutes later QS lose their lead to Liquigas
Leaky 8.21
QS 8.31
They are the only team so far
who look like they are riding as a team. The others have all been a bit ragged from time to time.
agreed! a perfect paceline is a powerful thing.
Lampre and QS definitely both a herd of cats. Didn’t see Milram and Rabo finish.
Nice image
They don’t always plan how they will accommodate riders dropping back as they go round corners. Too often the loose guy gets the best line and the paceline has to go around him.
If it freezes or the sound freezes, just tug the indicator at the bottom
The reverse or fast forward arrows do NOT work to re-establish the sound, so far as I can tell.
don't know the right name
at the bottom of the picture, you should see a bar.
to the left of a bar is a counter, counting up.
The bar itself goes gray as the feed loads (from the left) with possibly a dotted area to the right.
There is also a vertical line with a triangle that shows where in the feed you are (what is currently shown in the picture). You can click on this to drag it to the left, replaying the feed… or to the right, getting to the cutting edge of where the feed is loading.
If you click on that triangle/line, and drag it just a tiny bit each way, the sound pops back on. Do not overshoot the right end of the gray bar, or it may cause problems with the loading.
Current standings, per CN
Current race situation
1 Liquigas 8.21
2 Quick Step 8.31
3 Tinkoff Credit Systems 8.33
4 Rabobank 8.34
5 Team Milram 8.36
6 Lampre 8.40
7 Silence-Lotto 8.41
8 Andalucía-Cajasur 8.53
Gerolsteiner on the road now
and looking very very smooth.
They may look good
but they are 10s down at the halfway point.
if any of you can get channel TVE-International on cable, dish, directv
they’re showing the vuelta LIVE

"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
Euskaltel are off
I don’t know how they time this, but some left when the starter hit two, some on one, and only the real slowcoaches waited for the go.
HI ALL
Can’t find it on TV near me but It looks like euosport will start covering it tomorrow
by cyclingchallenge on Aug 30, 2008 1:32 PM EDT reply actions
TVEi on Hotbird or Astra
or German Eurosport have it free.
EE just went through halfway
1s up on Leaky. I wonder where that second came from.
And deservedly
they come in 8s behind. Though I’m sure that the timekeeper would have stopped the clock early if he could.
I've had to drop to the LOW settings...like watching the race through a film of Vaseline. (sigh)
Do we know who this announcer is yet?
EE finishing in 2nd!
Per the CN ticker:
Current race situation
1 Liquigas 8.21
2 Quick Step 0.10
3 Tinkoff Credit Systems 0.12
4 Rabobank 0.13
5 Team Milram 0.15
6 Gerolsteiner 0.18
7 Lampre 0.19
8 Silence-Lotto 0.20
9 Xacobeo-Galicia 0.21
10 Française des Jeux 0.27
11 Andalucía-Cajasur 0.32
And CA just finished in 11th place…
yeah, who is he???
slept in today, thought I’d missed everything but appears not quite… but where are Anthony and Brian?
We don't know. The announcer has not introduced himself this entire stage, either.
He probably did in the beginning, to give him some credit, but he should know that internet streaming watchers can never get into the coverage for the first 15-30 minutes…at this point in time, we have no idea who he is or where A&B are (a major disappointment for me. I was looking forward to their off-the-cuff comments on the Tour.)
he's having a lot of issues with pronunciation
boyg instead of bweeg (yeah, I know a lot of people do that), but “Paulini” for Paulinho of Astana?
As a complete guess
Gary Sutton, brother of Shane who coaches the GB trackies. Shane is doing the updates on the Tour of Ireland this week, and Gary shared commentating with Hugh Porter in Beijing for the BBC.
Correction
the Shane in Ireland is Shane Stokes
I believe the announcer is Matt Keenan
He did the announcing on the Versus web streaming when they had it on for the few days. that was provided for a few days that they provided before paul and phil went live for the later parts of the stages.
more info on him here
A strong Euska team
will help make the Vuelta more fun

But Astana don't look any better
than most of the other teams who have already finished.
Astana leave
with young Alberto leading his team into the frst corner. The locals loved that.
So whichever team wins
they all wear gold jerseys tomorrow?
by cyclingchallenge on Aug 30, 2008 1:56 PM EDT reply actions
They should stick them all
in those little low cut vests that teh starting girls are wearing.
no, just the 1st of the team across the line
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
weren't looking to win it

CSC-Sexy Back into 5th, 11" back. Good enuf. Wow, LeakyGas wins!
Again, per CN:

4 Quick Step 0.10
5 CSC 0.11
6 Tinkoff Credit Systems 0.12
7 Rabobank 0.13
8 Astana 0.14

15 Crédit Agricole 0.23
16 Française des Jeux 0.27
17 Bouygues Telecom 0.28

But bizarrely
Points were also dished out on today’s order of finish. So:
Pozzato 25
Agnoli 20
Quinziato 16
Bennati 14
Vanotti 12
Franzoi 10
Stangelj 9
Then on to EE
Anton 8
Koldo Fernandez 7
Astarloza 6
yeah
Anton and Astarloza, just in the limit :)

so did the cycling.tv designers read the 'what you should not do for a web app'
and miss the NOT in the title. such a bad design, and the scrolling taking some real estate from the allready small video screen is the crowning touch
um, for me it opens in a player
and you can resize the screen as large as you like. just drag the corner.
the player window can be resized but the video real estate itself cannot
and the scrolling takes over the bottom of the video
you may have a setting choice to pop it up in its own player, or maybe that is specific to Mac
and flip-4-mac. Really truly—my viddy picture now is…let’s see… 7.5 inches across.
So Liquigas take the stage
Pozzatto into Gold. What will Bettini think of that. Did anyone catch his shoes today? And what is that wonderful square building with the circular courtyard that the helicopters keep zooming in on?
and here's the evidence
