La Vuelta Stage 2... LIVE?

First, the stage: it's 167km from Granada to Jaen, a bumpy but non-selective route which should see a mass finish of some sort. However, the profile at least shows an ascent to the line. If that's actually true, it could make for an interesting list of names in the finale. Maybe Filippo Pozzato can hang on to his golden jersey, as well as his horrendous moustache, for another day. And if not, then the megabattle of the sprinters will kick off -- a nice alternative.
Problem is, I have no idea if anyone will see it. See the sidebar post concerning the fact that Cycling.TV apparently saw their URL expire and had it fall into the hands of some garbage site. GregM talks about how to find the site by using the IP address, though that's above my pay grade (I tried). You also can't find it via JumpTV. My guess is that, with the holiday weekend, it'll be days before they figure this one out. Jaws are no doubt dropping in London as we speak. Worse, the Cyclingfans.com alternatives appear to be blocked from US addresses. Check there and Steephill.tv for hope. Bruce and UMWolverine have alternative suggestions as well in the fanpost.
I am speechless. I don't want to torch C.TV til we find out what happens, but this sounds like a complete and utter joke. And if it's not fixed before the mountain stages... not a very funny one.

Changed, thanks
The whole post-prologue numbering thing… we need a standardized system!

Prudhomme is working on it
I’m sure we will all love the result.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
Cyclingfans only have two options.
One is only available in Denmark, the other just takes me to the website of the broadcaster with no hint of a live stream. Steephill has zilch. Unimpressed, to say the least.
couple links that might work
later when the race starts:

clearing disk cache didn't do it. Bruce, are you sure you don't just have the first layer or two in YOUR disk cache?
I don't know,
but I’m watching yesterday’s stage now.
BTW: Nice to announce now that you don’t need the Vuelta package, yet yesterday I couldn’t open it with premium, once again money spent on nothing at CTV….
It works by me 2 though I haven't got the Vuelta thing C.tv is working
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
How odd... I have cleared history, cleared disk cache,
shut down, restarted, cleared disk cache again…on both Safari and Firefox. Yet both still bring up the bogus page.
best to change your "hosts" file...
yes, you can do that for macs
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
correction...
YOU can [wink] … I’m still trying to find the right spot to tweak. And wondering if doing so will somehow void my agreement with verizon.
Hmmmm...are domain name registrations always universal? I assumed so...
no such thing as continent specific routing, is there? Monty, what continent are you on?
Europe, UK
I clicked on that link again and now I see the proper CTV page. I don’t know whether they are slowly rolling out the fake page or slowly rolling out the fix. Maybe there is some super cyberspace battle goig on between the two DNS versions.
I'm in USA -- New Mexico
and it started working again for me without any problems. TTT replay is playing ok.
cycling.tv on here
The main cycling.tv site is on for me (I live in Virginia). I saw the TTT live yesterday, and I took part in an innertube chat.
But this morning, while I can access the main site, the innertube leads me to the add site.
seft
we have a break of 4 riders
JesĂşs Rosendo (AndalucĂa-Cajasur), Egoi MartĂnez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Cyril Lemoine (CrĂ©dit Agricole) and Mikhail Ignatiev (Tinkoff Credit Systems)
peloton @3.19
OK, I reset my DNS lookup
listing each of those two numbers, and identifying each, under “search domains,” as www.cycling.tv
This gets me almost all the way in. Except now, Safari refuses to recognize the URL for the player. Yesterday, Firefox refused, but Safari was fine.
So it’s probably a pop-up setting that got reset while I was trying to clear all possible types of history from the browsers.
So fucked.
JFS - try this link
note the extra / at the end of the link. (half a Hoste!).
I dont know if this will help or not. hope you get up and running
I do have the site up and am watching yesterday’s time trial.
I dont know when todays stage starts on CTV
no, the mac has an interface, it won't let you end in a slash.
I’m pretty sure it has to do with something stupid like pop-up settings. It lets me log in, takes me to the player, tries to launch the window, and only then gives me the error message.
Hmmmm…I didn’t intentionally reset quicktime, but I’ll check that out anyway. AAAAND…what are proxies, and do I need to tweak those settings also?
is the race actually on ctv right now?
got access yesterday but showing nothing now after clicking all three options.
Save The Legs!!!
so maybe I just need to sit tight? Cool.
In which case, for other mac users…
pull down the list under the apple icon.
you will see “system preferences.”
Go there.
Click on “network” (one of the options under “internet and network.”)
I am on Airport, but it might look similar if you are on ethernet (etc.)
Click on the “advanced” button.
The next pop-up window will give you a selection bar at the top. Click on DNS.
You will see one (maybe more) servers (numbers) listed in the lefthand box, and a corresponding list of what each is for in the right hand box.
Click on the “+” below the left hand box.
Add 216.58.225.241
click on it again, and add 216.58.225.242.
Now go to the right box, and click that “+” sign.
Add www.cycling.tv.
do that again.
[no idea why both.]
Note as Pieter points out, if either of these are actually malicious redirects, someone could theoretically steal data (?) or do “bad stuff.” I’m not clear on the details, but I’m trusting that, whatever CTV is, it only steals our money legally, in an up-front sort of way. And that Greg is a long time Podium Cafe member, and that the person posting as Greg is Greg.
If you are comfortable with that level of trust, go ahead and click “OK” on that little window (which will close) and then click “apply” on the other window, which you can see again.
I don’t think you have to restart the computer, but quitting and restarting the browser is a good idea.
You can also look for “emtpy cache” or “reset Safari” or “preferences” in the list under the browser name, and use that to clear history and disk cache.
I can get the stupid Tom Boonen / specialized ad nice and clear, so I think I actually am in. (There’s no way to say “am I in yet” without feeling stupid, right?)
Yesterday they claimed “on air” for an hour or so before they came on air, so they’re just confused about the meaning of GMT, or something amateurish like that.
I have yesterdays stage running
it took about two minutes to load – but working flawlessly
supposedly today's stage is "on air now"!
but not for me..anyone else watching today’s stage live?
Save The Legs!!!
a day late......
no live coverage but I did get an email from CTV a few minutes ago announcing coverage of La Vuelta 2008.
RTVE
Any luck this spanish site for the race? No Vuelta on Eurosport today. Stage 2 highlights before tomorrow’s stage. I can keep you up to speed with the Classique d’Indre if you like?
I can't get anything at all.
I think I might officially give up and watch the cricket instead….there’s always the CN live ticker :-(
About 70km to go, break of 4 at 3.47
If you've not been following the Tour of Ireland ticker
then don’t check now. It sounds like today was a brilliant stage and I’m sorry that I will know the result when I see it.
The programme is up
but they are showing padding features. No live coverage on TVE yet
CTV appears to be working fine for me
and I didn’t mess with my computer at all. I think it was a glitch last night as if I hadn’t logged in I’m not sure I’d even have known.
Several errands to run and then a long drive back home today. Can someone confirm today’s airing? 10:30 central – I think?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
it says live now,
so anytime is a good bet.

CTV keeps changing the start time on the Live Events tab
It’s now showing 2:30PM GMT — was 2:00PM a few minutes ago.
well, tve-international is showing filler for the moment
one was about ex-pros teaching spin class…
so the delay is probably accurate

no, it's on TV
But you can try ES site and see if they have live video, doubt it though.

I’m also getting the “not broadcasting”. Hm…

(I looked to yesterday’s thread for that answer, but I think I’m missing 142 new posts from that thread . . .)

Errg.
Not even close to what I wanted to say.
C&P’d break comp:
JesĂşs Rosendo (AndalucĂa-Cajasur), Egoi MartĂnez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Cyril Lemoine (CrĂ©dit Agricole) and Mikhail Ignatiev (Tinkoff Credit Systems)
Egoi Martinez now seems to be alone
44k to go. Rosendo is about 200m back and the other two are 50 m further away
The Karpin guy Rosendo(?) most attacking guy today
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
wouldn't say that
egoi likes to go on the attacks… wonder if he wants to repeat as the kom this year….. egoi did this multiply times in last year’s vuelta and won a stage
as opposed to devolder, who attacks but except for flanders this year, not much comes of it…
