Beijing '08: Live Coverage ???

Beijing_medium
UPDATED: Turns out, I'm a idiot... who knew? Universal Sports will be all in for the Worlds, but is not doing the Olympics. The partnership with NBC is in progress, but their coverage of Olympic events is limited to rebroadcasts later. Good news: we know where to go for live video of the Worlds next month, including live cable broadcasts in some places. But for the Olympics, it's back to CG's post, right sidebar... and other assorted sleuthing of the NBC website.

Update II: From NBC's website:

The 3,600 total hours of coverage on seven NBC Universal networks: NBC, USA, MSNBC, CNBC, Oxygen, Telemundo and Universal HD, as well as NBCOlympics.com, is 1,000 hours more than the combined coverage for every televised Summer Olympics in U.S. history (Rome 1960 - Athens 2004, 2,562 hours). NBCOlympics.com will feature approximately 2,200 total hours of live streaming Olympic broadband video coverage, the first live online Olympic coverage in the United States.

Cycling is one of the 25 sports that will be "streamed live via broadband at NBCOlympics.com," so I think that answers the essential question. Well, one of them. Here's another: who are we going to have to listen to explain the basics of road cycling throughout the race? And will the camera follow Paolo Bettini the whole time, even when he's being dropped by the Spanish squad?

UPDATE III: Don't forget to install Microsoft Silverlight if you want to watch NBCOlympics.com's coverage. Silverlight is a device that, when installed, enhances video streams as well as Microsoft's detailed files on your web-surfing tendencies. H/t UMWolverine, who has been patiently mentioning this little detail for a couple days now, I think.

calling a sprint WCSN-style

Here’s how they call a sprint on WCSN:

“HERE COME THE RIDERS! HERE COME THE RIDERS! HERE COME THE RIDERS!!”

Can’t be much worse than that, can it?

Ok, I just jinxed it…

So what did YOU do on Friday night?

Well, I sat by myself in my living room watching a bike race on the internet while chatting with a bunch of people on a blog… after that I burned my man-card, fed my 35 cats, resigned myself to a life of loneliness and embraced the horrific unending existence of being a shut-in.

Then on Saturday I went for a bike ride.

article about NBC’s online coverage.

The viewing experience on NBCOlympics.com will differ from the TV standard. The games will not be slickly produced or described by pairs of announcers; instead, users will see the standard world feed that is sent to all broadcasters, and bloggers will serve as play-by-play voices and analysts. Users will also have access to statistics, athlete biographies and other information as they watch the action.

Years ago ABC, after tiring of the complaints about Howard Cosell, braodcast Monday Night Football without the commentators.
