Check out your Olympics live streaming
Men's US Gymnastics team is practicing right now and the NBCOlympics site is streaming it live.
An interesting twist - the live video link brings up a window asking for my zip code and cable provider's name. Then it tells me my local cable provider is not a "nbc olympic partner" so I can't get the live streams. (I'm wondering if that means the cable co didn't pay nbc? I don't know.) I had to input the zip code and cable company from my work which is different. Comcast which is the cable provider at my workplace is a partner so it works fine.

I was just going to post this! :-)
Same thing happened to me about the “olympic partner.” I don’t even have cable tv, but I put in the local provider and it works fine.
Looks like the US team is going to start.
So
regardless of your provider, just type in “comcast”?

I used zip code 94132 and Comcast as the provider...
... although I’m shocked that they ask you instead of just deducing it based on your IP address like ESPN360 does.
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Time Warner bought out all of Comcast in Los Angeles...
... as part of the Adelphia bankruptcy proceedings. Hence, you can’t use 90210 as a Comcast zip code despite a possible overwhelming desire one might have to pay tribute to Aaron Spelling and his spawn(s) of the devil.
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
Try yours and if it doesn't work try mine. 9 5 8 1 4 Comcast.
You get three tries. How ridiculous is that?
I hate to threadjack (he lies! he lies!) but for those of you in San Francisco...
... are any of you planning on going to the grand opening of the new Academy of Sciences? I read an article on the new building on Wired this morning and it sounds pretty astounding. I haven’t been there in probably close to 6 or 7 years now (mostly planetarium shows) so I had no idea this was going on.
I know, it said "als" instead of "ist"... don't give me any crap...
No, it's true.
No, I know, that’s my brother, Crazy Talk. We’re all a little worried about him.

I was thinking about Crazy Talk also.
He told me to stay away from GG Park ths weekend. All his friends are going to some big grand opening shindig.
i feel left out -- i had no probs
of course, my provider is directv….. ha

Great video
I hope the cycling is this good. That would be sweet. And there is not supposed to be any audio, right?
no audio commentary for the event
but we get audio for the commercials… go figure

eh?
It was pretty cool—no commercials at all during the gymnastics practice, and you got to hear sound “from the floor” the whole time. Like the gymnasts encouraging their teammates, giving feedback to the coaches about the equipment, and so on. Practice didn’t really need commentary, and it was cool to hear the athletes’ chatter.
Picture quality was stunning. Frame rates a little low, but data rates clearly high for the high-rez picture. The enhanced view at least half-filled the 720p screen. If the cycling looks this good, it’s going to be AWESOME. (Did I just call Microsoft Silverlight “AWESOME”? D’oh.)

commercials during or at least at the start of the live soccer streaming

and, yes, you get the ambient noise

Well, now we know Lyne's answer to the great question of...

I wonder if
they’ll archive things for later viewing? It looks like I might have to miss part of the men’s TT on Tuesday.
I clicked on "advanced player" option on lower right corner
and got an excellent quality larger video. Nice.
Yes, the excitement is mounting.
I am going to TiVo the opening ceremony and watch the cycling. I just got an HDTV and HD Tivo. The olympics are my HD testing grounds.
HD TiVo???
My jealousy is rampant.

I am getting my multi-stream cable card tomorrow.
It goes in the HD TiVo and no need for a cable box. Nice. I can record 2 shows at once. This is a big deal ‘round here. Being a single mom these things take saving and sacrifice to get. But any “extra” money I get usually goes into electronics. I am a proud geek. Forget shoes and clothes and jewelry. Bring on the electronics!
you'd love my house then
except no HD—can’t watch it with my vision

SUI JURIS! I AM SHOCKED! AND DISMAYED! CAT LOVERS EVERYWHERE UNITE!
(is that scolding enough?)
Where is Little Georgie when I need him? My attack cat. He’s probably at home under my bed sleeping.
you know, Zoe
I think you’re just at the base of Dan’s lovely little pastel colored rainbow triangle.
not mine....

Geek? Check.
Watches Cycling on the Internet? Check.
Has cats? Check.

Ahh yes...
... I knew I forgot one…

I was supprised to see...
... that http://cyclingfans.com showed live Olympic soccer today… both video and audio feeds for different contries. I decided to watched a bit of a Chinese feed for the US vs Japan soccer. The NBC video is great, of course, but t was sort of cool to be watching “local” Chinese coverage.
