and
both the spanish and the french
http://www.velo-club.net/article.php?sid=45216
have Jackson Rodriguez, not Rujano, for Venezuela
crap!
why is there no official start list?! the race is like tomorrow. grrr.
lol, not rantin’ at you, just how lame-o scurrying around comparing these things is.
veloclub sounds more right to me, since they have no rujano. eh, maybe i change it. or maybe a real startlist appears somewhere like uci.ch. that would be nice.
Prediction thread?
I’ll get the party started.
Gold – Kolobnev (with a late race solo); Silver – Valverde (chasing group sprint winner), Bronze – D’Bag Schumi.
If it comes down to a sprint for the win, no one is outkicking Valverde in an uphill finish (including Bettini). Word.
all true
I’m pulling for Oscar of Course. Seeing one of my favs get a historic 4th Rainbow Jersey (Bitches) would be too cool. My spur of the moment podium though…
AV
Kolobnev
Schumi
"I won! I won! I don't have to go to school anymore." -- Eddy Merckx, after winning his first bike race
I'm glad Kolobnev got a ride
He’s a good pick for the win, but it’ll have to be solo or from a small group not containing Valverde or Bettini.
Agree that Valverde wins, if it’s a sprint of any sort.
x-posted from parcours thread:
I ‘ll be wrong, of course, but I’d love to see the big names get shut out because they don’t have 8 riders to bring them to the finale. And when I think about it that way, I think that Luxembourg’s squad is actually stronger than Spain’s, because who would you rather have chasing down a break for you—Oscarito and LL Sanchez or a Schlecklet and a Kirchen? As for Italy . . . that’s a lot of hair gel to commit to working for il grillo, I don’t see it happening.
Germany and Australia have LOTS of horsepower.
my list of outsiders includes (in no order):
Botero, Leipheimer, Jens!, Dessel, Roche, Valjavec, Gerrans, Gesink, van Augustyn, and Tuft.
And just because his name reminds me of my most favorite monty python sketch ever, I hope pidgorny does well enough to win wimbledon.
Valverde to Win
...but Valverde has called out Kirchen as a rider to watch…
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/08/06/2325460.htm?site=olympics/2008
Valverde also believes Luxembourg’s Kim Kirchen, a member of a team which also includes the talented Schleck brothers Andy and Frank, must also be considered a gold medal contender.Kirchen came close to winning a stage several times on the Tour and wore the overall leader’s yellow jersey for four days.
“I believe Kim (Kirchen) is the rider whose characteristics are best suited for this course. We saw he was very strong in the Tour de France,” Valverde said.
“He is the fastest of the three and he is the most dangerous.”
