Olympic Men's Road Race... LIVE!!

Olympic Men's Road Race...LIVE!!

Olympic_medium
Woops... forgot to hit front page. We're live now.

Welcome to the Middle Kingdom, that place below Heaven but above Earth, the domain of more than mortals... supermortals, who can ride a bike for seven hours at ungodly speeds, breathing a gaseous form of cement, and still contest an uphill 1km sprint. Behold the Olympian immortals of Cycling!

At least, I hope you're beholding them. Live coverage at NBCOlympics.com starts at the convenient time of 11.30pm Pacific, presumably in time for most of the climbing laps and finish. But reliable CyclingFans expects to have some additional live video links closer to the race start, and Steephill.TV's impressive Dashboard has some preliminary links as well. Enjoy!

Some may have to download a new MS Plugin

Microsoft is running all the streaming video through its Silverlight plugin, which hasn’t made the Linux crowd very happy (there isn’t one for them).

Alessandro Bertolini spent the night at a Camaiore Hospital after crashing in the final sprint of the GP Citta di Camaiore on Thursday. The Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli rider ran into a barricade on the roadside during the sprint, and was briefly knocked unconscious. He was transported to the hospital where it was determined that he had fractured his first cervical vertebrae and suffered a compression of three more, according to his team.

“If is possible, we will try to transfer Alessandro to the Trento hospital today by helicopter,” spokesman Davide Bellini said. “Only after Alessandro is seen by the Trento Hospital primary doctor will we know when Alessandro will be back to races.”

Italy’s Paolo Bettini is back at the car again having another long free ride. Earlier Tour Down Under director and former Olympic gold medallist Mike Turtur said he’d have thrown Bettini out of the race if he held onto a car for this long without pedaling in one of his races – we doubt that will happen to the defending champion today in China though.
