Olympic Men's Road Race... LIVE!!
Olympic Men's Road Race...LIVE!!
Woops... forgot to hit front page. We're live now.
Welcome to the Middle Kingdom, that place below Heaven but above Earth, the domain of more than mortals... supermortals, who can ride a bike for seven hours at ungodly speeds, breathing a gaseous form of cement, and still contest an uphill 1km sprint. Behold the Olympian immortals of Cycling!
At least, I hope you're beholding them. Live coverage at NBCOlympics.com starts at the convenient time of 11.30pm Pacific, presumably in time for most of the climbing laps and finish. But reliable CyclingFans expects to have some additional live video links closer to the race start, and Steephill.TV's impressive Dashboard has some preliminary links as well. Enjoy!

I’m looking live at the back of the peloton.

At least it was just one and quick.

surprised me that they put ads on the online feed, but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised

i was watching CBC
but i wanted to watch the opening ceremony, so i’m glad NBC came through
Today, I raced à la Chavanel, and I succeeded.

Some may have to download a new MS Plugin
Microsoft is running all the streaming video through its Silverlight plugin, which hasn’t made the Linux crowd very happy (there isn’t one for them).

TC good to see you, you old dog. How’s the fishing?

Fishing been good
Been to Montana and Maine (missed Sastre’s win in the TdF).
And you?

Doing well
been taking my boy fishing some lately… thought of you out there in the wild west. We hunting for bluegill…

Welcome back young man
Maine treat you better this year?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Well...
Without getting into detail, let me say… no. I freely admit that my wife is too good for me, but her family is nuts. And dialup was knocked out most of the time due to electrical storm.
Trip was taking on the flavor of one of those slasher flicks…

Oh......
I really meant the fishing. Not much I can do about the in-laws.
Your site looks fab btw.

But you've got fans ;-)
And on your death bed, you will receive total consciousness.
Ok, so I installed Silverlight even though I won’t be around for the race end. So why is the NBC link still prompting me to install the fucking thing?

First medal of games
Went Katreina Emmons, a Czech airgun shooter who happens to be married to Matt Emmons, and American with a shot (ark ark) in smallbore rifle.
Let the games begin.
"Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill"

Hm...
Are you all getting any audio commentary on the nbc feed? I can hear the race, helicopter, fans, but no commentary whatsoever
Even the Airgun Event rated a live blogger...
They had some guy doing live text updates in the airgun final; apparently cycling doesn’t rate even that much with NBC.
"Age and treachery will overcome youth and skill"
-- Fausto Coppi
they do have text updates, if you go to the enhanced player
Today, I raced à la Chavanel, and I succeeded.
ha! no way...
it appeared to be challenging for the air gun contestants to stay awake during the event.

they should pit air rifle against sabre
then they’d stay awake.
and back on NBC the Chinese team
enters the stadium, led by Yao Ming.
the crowd goes wild.
the little kid?
Did you hear what they said about the little kid next to Yao? He’s an earthquake survivor that ran back into his school to save a couple classmates. Asked later why he ran back in he said that he was a “hall monitor” and that’s what he had to do. sniff Kid is no more than 6 years old.
was wondering some backstreet areas
of Shanghai in 2004, going nowhere in particular, when I rounded a corner into an alley I thought would take me back to the main street. Came face to face with a life sized cutout of Yao Ming, with “YAO’S HOUSE” painted over it. It led to a newly opened basketball court. Way cool :)
CBC
OK, we got a situation here with CBC. They switched to generic sports coverage on their main streaming channel. The bike race is on streaming Channel 4 with no commentary.
How far into the race are we?
Is this the begining or after the 80k flat?

Why can't I get the video?
I keep getting the screen that says the video is supported by certain platforms, which I have. ANd I uploaded Searchlight, albeit 1.0, which is the only thing my computer can handle. Any ideas???

I think maybe
they need someone from the WWF, in future Olympic road races, to help them figure out how to do a better job of pretending to race. This is kinda . . .
Go for it

Alessandro Bertolini spent the night at a Camaiore Hospital after crashing in the final sprint of the GP Citta di Camaiore on Thursday. The Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Androni Giocattoli rider ran into a barricade on the roadside during the sprint, and was briefly knocked unconscious. He was transported to the hospital where it was determined that he had fractured his first cervical vertebrae and suffered a compression of three more, according to his team.“If is possible, we will try to transfer Alessandro to the Trento hospital today by helicopter,” spokesman Davide Bellini said. “Only after Alessandro is seen by the Trento Hospital primary doctor will we know when Alessandro will be back to races.”

Hola everyone!
Sorry I’m late to the party, but I just got back from an excellent movie: Road to Roubaix. It was part of the Chicago Bike Film Fest. Good time, although way too many trackies for my liking.
It's a cool event.
There were two shorts before the feature. One was all about David Millar and the other about a track rider.

Italy’s Paolo Bettini is back at the car again having another long free ride. Earlier Tour Down Under director and former Olympic gold medallist Mike Turtur said he’d have thrown Bettini out of the race if he held onto a car for this long without pedaling in one of his races – we doubt that will happen to the defending champion today in China though.
