ha!
Betini and Schumacher 1-2 on the stage. I like me some of that.
And good ride from Cunego to grab third. He’s coming on form just in time, it appears.
lol, my excuse
is that I was reading Bettini’s Gazzetta interview at the same time that I was posting this… Multi-tasking, so not my strong suit :-|
heh
they didn’t have time to ask Bettini about that in the post-race show. Too bad.

Major Mistake by VV
staying too far back in peleton and getting dropped on a descent
On the podium: nice boat for the stage winner !

maybe yes
but the way he fought to get back after being dropped and the fact that almost his entire team got caught back there seems like they were just caught napping
(but only speculating) ;)

But not on the mountain stages
Its unfortunate but with Levi/Bert/Astana having 4 minutes on AV and Sastre almost 3, its game over for the GC race for Valverde and CdE even before the decisive mountain stages.
Yes, agreed, naturally.
I meant more waiting to see whether av makes any comment on either injury/bad tactics
might be
It sounds like poor tactics today – I didn’t watch it, just picking up from the reportages. But he has had knee issues in the past. It’s either an excuse to leave the race early and prep for worlds, or a real problem. We probably won’t know until worlds ;-)
Unzue confirms
over at VN: scolds Valverde for lagging in the back.

Pereiro wasn't too happy either.
From the Vuelta website:
Galicia native Óscar Pereiro, still recuperating from the severe spill he took in the last Tour de France, was very critical of his teammate’s performance and declared: "You can’t let Alejandro Valverde lose the Vuelta a España on a day like today". The winner of the Tour two years ago expanded on this theme and stated: "It’s a shame. Everything you gain over eleven days you lose in one because of a stupid mistake". When asked about any reasons that could have prompted Valverde to drop off the pace during a descent, Pereiro is quite clear: "When only one racer stays behind, you have to find out if you’re dealing with a simple slip-up or if there’s something more to it". As to his recovery, he was very optimistic and made it clear that, despite still having some pain in his arm, he has no doubts he’ll be ready to return to professional competition come next February.

Lovely form that Bettini is coming into...
… Who’s taking bets that he abandons on Saturday… and pummels Oscarito in Varese :D :D :D :D
Vai campione del Mondo, VAI!!!!!
Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc.
lol
Since he’ s totally bent out of shape at Lef right now, man, I would really not want to race against him at worlds. Ha! Angry Cricket is probably a very very fast Cricket. So looking forward to that race…
Yeah... no crap...
… he might bring a real rifle to the finish line this year and point it at the German contingent.
Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc.
dear god no
I’ll be happy to see that blue uni streak over the line, but hopefully on someone else’s shoulders.

is Contador thinking about a future at Caisse d'Epargne?

the guy on the left is Unzue, the GCE directeur sportif.
it would make a ton of sense
I suspect the buy-out would be hefty, but there is probably a Spanish sponsor or two who might be willing to join Caisse to pick up that tab. I’d like to see that, actually. Valverde isn’t a grand tour rider, but Caisse has all the makings of a very good supporting cast. Intriguing idea. Hope it happens.
Prince Bert?!
“Why do i have to ride a Powder-Blue Drek and carry water for Lance when Valv gets to ride the sexiest bike in the peloton”
lol
I so heart those bikes. If I were Contador? I’d buy myself out of my contract, just to ride one of those bikes. But I’m shallow that way.
Oh dear god...
… I, thankfully, hadn’t noticed that until you pointed it out. Great work camera guy!
Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc.
This is cycling
a worldwide brother/sister-hood of bike shallowness. We amateurs don’t usually know what it’s like to be Contador, but in this particular moment, he’s one of us.

What if he took the money they're giving him to support Lance,
and the day after banking it bought himself out? That would set up a real grudge match come July.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Bert joining CSC? Or Is It Cervelo?
Seems like the perfect fit, whatever team it is.
Plan for the day: Try to start rumors of Contador joining every pro ycling team in existance. Extra points for teams not based in Europe. For instance:
Problem: Bert loves his Trek. But he can’t stand playing second fiddle to Lance.
Solution: Join Trek-Marco Polo. OWN Tour of Quinhai Lake. Little known fact: He’s secretly Beppu’s BFF. They text ALL the time.
Bert
will wait to see if Leipheimer moves, and if he does, he’ll immediately sign with the same team. I think he and Sastre have a bet about who can make Levi’s head explode.
