At least Valverde
has half of the “tandem classification” – if only anyone knew what that was it might mean more.
no, it's not that since
many times the leading team was not on the podium….

...but right after that podium thing they showed the team classification
and CdE leads Astana by a few minutes
yep, but the other days
they had different team on the podium than the leading one…
confusing.

very confusing
maybe it just is “the tandem-award”
it the part of the competion no one is seeing
After each stage they pick two guys from different teams and they have to ride a tandem to the vampire tent. Lowest elapsed time counts toward the award.

i am signing off…just wanted to wish ya safe travels to espana….and tell our valverde to leave la vuelta!! he has a world championship to win…-smile-
Have no fear, I will take him to one side and have a firm (but friendly) word!
I will tell him that rainbow stripes are sooo his style.

hhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiijkioo
my 2 year old typed that…. Bruce or Jens, does that mean anything in either of your mother tongues?
the tandem prize
is actually the team award for the day before (or is it the stage team award?) because sometimes the organizers had problems finding the riders from a team that just took the lead.

german tv "not amused" with LA comeback
Maybe this should be a “fanpost,” or maybe it’s been dealt with on another thread, but has anyone seen the VN story on how the German tour broadcasters aren’t happy with LA’s possible return? Quite interesting – I guess they carry quite a bit of weight (biggest country in Europe after all), and they plan to use that weight to pressure the tour people – their line is basically that they want an end to all the crap associated with Armstrong’s generation. I would guess this isn’t enough to throw a wrench into his Tour comeback, but it does raise the intrigue level somewhat – it’s an incentive of sorts for the Tour organizers not to let him in.
biting off their nose
You’d think they’d be happy to resume broadcasting the Tour, assuming their homeboy Linus doesn’t break his leg again before next July. Not to mention Burghardt, Ciolek, the Fothens, and all the other new-generation German riders. And for what? They didn’t stop carrying the Tour de France until well after Lance retired anyway.
I hope for the sake of Germany’s fans that this is just a bit of noise-making. But then again, I’m guessing the fans can pick up a broadcast from the next country over, making German TV’s stance all the more futile.
(PS—Isn’t Russia the biggest country in Europe?)
I thought it was a pretty bizarre
and obnoxious stance to take against someone never caught cheating.
Shouldn’t they be taking a strong stance against admitted doper, old-timer and still riding Erik Zabel? Just more pointless nationalism?
It was a pretty huge deal when German TV took the tour of the air last year
To help his image Armstrong needs a good song like Bert already has.

why was Levi wearing combo jersey today?
According to the standings from yesterday, Levi was third in overall combo points behind Contador and Valv. That would mean Valv should have been wearing it but was not…anyone hear why?
Of course Levi moved to second in combo today so he will wear it tomorrow but today is a mystery…
Mosquera’s quote on the day, from Velonews:
"I was hoping that Contador and Leipheimer might have had a little bit of compassion and let me win the stage," said Mosquera, who finished third. "When I attacked the first time, I decided to give it all, for good or bad. It went pretty well and I had the legs to get to the top, but they weren’t going to give away anythingContador said the “Astana car” told him not to let the opportunity pass to get the time bonus and that he agreed.
gifts are for special occasions only
there is still a grand Tour to be won

Sastre
Does it seem to anyone else that Carlos is on his own a lot in this Vuelta? Astana travels as a pack, Caisse musters a BFF or two, but Sastre always seems to be alone. Cuesta, his mountain guy, finishes way behind him and isn’t much in evidence beforehand (have to say I didn’t see it, relying on Live Reports, starting with the PdC’s.).
CSC brought their B-team.
Can’t exactly remember, but I think there’s only one or two CSC riders from the Tour on this team.
Definately
The only mitigating factor is that he has Cuesta on the team at his own request, only he isn’t the climber he was 1 or 2 years ago. Van Goolen was brought on to do this kind of stuff but isn’t quite up to the biggest climbs. They had Larsson and CAS available too but Larsson is preping for the Worlds TT and they don’t want to overexpose the youngster CAS. Julich has apparently shut down his engines ahead of time or he should have been there.
