Pretty impressive when we can ring up 217 comments
on a stage with a 17+min breakaway. Nice job all.

Hey that's cheating, the stage isn't over yet
Get back to the live thread, shame on you.

OOOhhh, so the great omnipotent Drew now decides when stages are over?
Do the ASO and UCI know that there’s a new sheriff in town?
Just what the sport needs, another powermad egomaniac. :-D

Oh, I wasn't declaring the stage over
only my part in it.
And yes, if I really want to put my effort into it I could become more powerful than the ASO and UCI combined. In that event I would be looking for an apprentice.
Darth Jensius anyone?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
If I were to be a sith I'd like to keep a low profile
and use my second name, so Darth Gunnar perhaps?

and yes Drew, I know Gunnar is a bikebrand.........

I think the explanation was that it's the team prize from the day before
Because on the “day of,” it’s too hard to round up the riders, or the calculations take too long, or some such foolishness.
Assuming that’s “prize” not “price.” I would like to have one of those statuettes, BTW, so if they question is “price,” I too would like an answer [grin].
lolz, prize that was ment to be....
Thanks, makes a lot more sense now.

Any word on Contador's crash? or injury?
I read a little blip on it in the live thread. Wonder what the status is.
from velonews:
The Vuelta leader fell with about 50km to go, but suffered little more than scrapes to his left knee and elbow.
Contador was treated by the race doctor during the stage, who applied a bandage to his knee, but he managed to finish safely in the main pack at more than 14 minutes behind García to retain his 1:17 lead to Levi Leipheimer.
"I have to take a look and I have some scrapes on my left side, but I don’t think it’s so bad," said a relieved Contador. "I hit some pothole and my tire just got stuck in there.

That's a relief
One of the spanish message boards said he’d been trampled by bulls, then carried off by a twister, and finally eaten by a great white shark. Pretty lucky that he got through all that with only scrapes to his knee and elbow.
That is a clear message to Lance – Don’t Fuck with me. I’m indestructible.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Remember Pais Vasco
Where he rode the last two days with a bad toothache but wouldn’t tell anybody until the race was over. Didn’t want to give his rivals hope. He had two teeth extracted the next day.
I don’t think he had more than a scrape either but I also doubt we’d hear if the fall was worse. Contador ain’t Ricco.
Thank you, thank you. You're a marvelous audience!
I’m here all week, shows at 8 and 10. Leave the kids at home for the late show, it gets a little blue.

Somebody really has it in for Contador
First reports of his (unspecified) death, now bulls, tornados, sharks….
pardon? "wolfy"????
usually it’s just um

“Alberto, you fell pretty hard on the last climb. How’re you doing?”
AC: I got hurt, but it’s just some body damage [in the sense of a car getting a ding]. I have a small bruise on my knee and shoulder. A bit before the summit there was a hole / furrow (cavity) and my wheel got stuck inside it. I fell, but had no problems completing the stage. The worst will be tonight, I’ll have to see how that goes, because I’ll have to sleep on my right shoulder. [i guess he normally sleeps on his left side.]
There’s more Q and A of the “was the Angliru special for you” sort…skipping to the 4th Q:
“Your fall today underscores that nothing is won until you make it to Madrid…”
AC: yes, cycling is a sport where one takes many risks. You can’t say you are going to win just because you have an advantage on the clock. I have always said that you don’t know the winner until the finish line in Madrid. My fall is proof of that, even if I came out of it with no harm today…more of a good scare than physical harm."
More Q’s about how do you plan to win (nothing too illuminating there) and “what do you expect in the TT” (ditto). Translation of the boring, blathery parts will be offered only under duress or inducement.
"Alvaro Pino stirs things up in the Vuelta"
Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere, I came across it on the Vuelta’s website and thought it would be of interest. Pretty strong stuff…I’d say borderline threatening!
Alvaro Pino’s statements following the Fuentes de Invierno stage have left no-one indifferent. The Galician, who was furious at the attitude shown by the Astana team, has shown no intention of biting his tongue: "We, the poor teams, also know how to do damage. We can’t win, but we can do damage. I’m not asking them to let us win, but I would have liked to have seen some collaboration, as the attack was in their interests, too". Pino did not stop there: "What they did has been noted down. It’s been noted down and it won’t be forgotten. They had a lot of nerve, sitting on Mosquera’s wheel and then attacking him to take first and second on the stage. The least they could have done was to give him a hand".
The only way Alvaro Pino does damage
is by juicing his riders so massively not even Hein Verbruggen can turn a blind eye. I hate to say it but he should probably be happy Astana rode the way they did or Zeke would have had an extra session with the vampires and my guess that isn’t such a good gamble for Pino.
Shut up and go away Señor Pino!
