Tour of Poland: Stage 6
Yet more horrendous weather meant a 2 hour delay to the start of Stage 6 of the Tour de Pologne whilst the entire race travelled to a new start due to the stage being shortened from 201km to 118. This change also meant that the mountain's would only be climbed the once (rather than twice).
There was the usual breakaway that had a lead of around 2 and a half minutes at one point (and special mention here to Sapa on the Polish national team who has been in the break every day I think - great rides by him), but late on Jens! (well who else!) attacked from the front of the peleton and caught each of the seven escapees in turn to come through and score a brilliant stage win!!
The German diesel engine (as the CSC website calls him) now leads the race overall by 1min24 with just the one stage left to go
Bet that has put a smile back on the faces of the CSC-Saxo Bank boys after 5 days of riding in miserable conditions
Go Jens!

Make sure to look Ruthann!!!
Jens all smiles accross the line.
Jens! and one seriously huge teddy bear. I wonder if the kids will fight over it?

crikey, in my house the bunny would claim the bear... all those hours of grooming

I heart Jens! It won't be the same when (or if) he ever retires.
Maybe he’ll just tell his body to shut up and ride til he’s 90.
Jens! Rocks!
They interviewed him after the race for the CSC Fan Club and he – and it seemed everybody else on the team – thought today was his kind of stage. He said he’s had a few off races recently, but feels back on now – even though it is his last race of the season. He’s happy to end the season on a high note!
Jens! is the Axis the World Revolves Around
I looked out my window this morning, everything seemed a bit brighter. The coffee tasted a bit better. The bagel was just the right level of crispiness. My kids behaved like it was the 1950’s. I’m confident that I will conquer that hill tomorrow without emptying out the rear sprocket.
Hell, the Dow Jones is on fire yet again.
But what could be the source of such cosmic oneness?
Oh yeah … Jens!
It's the one piece of cheering news
in a sea of weather and market disasters (politics too).
Thanks, Gemma.
I’m only distressed there’s no Live Reporting.
This made me smile this morning!
I wish we had some live feed of it or like Ruthann said…. if anyone finds some video, please share. There are two riders I hope don’t retire for a long long time. One is Jens! and the other Michael Barry. Both can brighten a day instantly. :-)

Whoever is streaming only has the right to so in certain parts of the world and unless your IP adress matches you won’t get access.

Anyone remember the pic of Toto
aka Salvatore Commesso, wearing a shower cap in a rainy race? I kept waiting for Schmalz to pick up on it but he never did.
The plastic baggie has soooo much more panache.
But what wouldn’t, if Jens! were wearing it?
Great stuff...
…just hope all those CSC guys don’t end up having to sit out Varese to recover from colds, flu, etc etc etc…even with all the bickering between Sastre and Riis, and the much harder riding, I bet they’re all looking enviously toward Spain right about now…
