What time does this kick off?

Is it like the Tour, a photo and champagne feast for the first few dozen klicks and then a sprinters’ day int he sun at the finish? Or do the Spanish race the last day?

starts in 10 mins

same thing as in the Tour, only the end of the stage is racing, where the sprinters duke it out.

I've just got back from the Basque Country (much fun :-)

I was able to see a bit of the Vuelta on TV but wasn’t usually in for it so am a little out of touch (no, I don’t understand the news in either Spanish or Euskera!). Who of the sprinters is actually left then? Boonen’s gone home has he not? And Freire? Zabel still there? And if so might he escape the curse of coming 3rd?!

All eyes are on the sky for this last stage of the Vuelta following a tremendous shower in San Sebastián de Los Reyes. The rain has stopped for the moment, although there are heavy clouds.

Calm in the pack

Calm rules the pack and it seems likely that will be the story until the race reaches the final circuit in Madrd. The averages forecase by the Vuelta organisation took into account this theoretical calmness, with the predictions fluctuating from a low of 33 kilometres per hour to a high of 37 km/h.

weather improvement

No attacks or any manouevring in the pack at the 10 kilometre mark and the weather has improved, too. Nothing like the downpour that surprised the cycling contingent this morning in San Sebastián de los Reyes. Now the pack is racing in 22ºC weather and the threat of rain has disappeared.

After the first hour of riding, the average is 30.70 kilometres per hour. The pack is riding behind the slowest pace forecast, but bear in mind that once the race reaches Madrid, things will speed up and recover some of the time they have let slip way in these early kilometres.

Actually, 2 fingers and a thumb

Interesting cultural difference—in America we would hold up the middle three (index, middle, ring fingers).

A frozen 'cross ride from this last weekend. As you may be aware we have had siberian conditions here in the UK with a low of -14 degrees centigrade here on saturday morning. It was a beautiful sunny morning so i layered up and set off for a snowy 'cross ride along a roman road. I checked the thermometer when i got back to find it had been -10 throughout the ride! I had a lot of fun though and the views were spectacular.
