Apparently mentioned by Vuelta race radio. In case some haven’t seen it, there’s a full thread of speculation over on Cervélo’s own site. Plus denials from Vroomen.

of course if one was inclined to provide Monday morning unknown unknowns
I would think that Cuesta would be joining Sastre at Cervelo, but no emails please, just a thought ;)
well jeez obviously I can't read (Cuesta is right there in the unknown unknowns already)
this is the time that I wish that comments could be deleted….
move along people, nothing to see or read here
is cool
i don’t expect people to actually read what i write :)
was really just curious about how much is really known about this team, given the amount of speculating generated by it.
even more interesting will be the title sponsor, i think.

Cervélo Competiton!
Get yer crayons out now and submit your designs. I’m sure Vroomen would appreciate them.

has to be red and white...
if it’s Canadian! y’all are spending too much time looking in one place and getting seriously fixated… ;)
Cheese
please let it be cheese. But not the cheese with holes in.
Like the suits the Swiss skiing team used to wear?
This is the only picture I could find and it’s a bit small but trust me, it was holey cheese:

That's a good point, about teams in general
Right now, I think Garmin are the only team really on top of media outreach. And – though it saddens me to say it – Rock Racing too, to a large extent.

Good point. But it’s also just the general media awareness of the team. There’s a bit in one of Kimmage’s July pieces, where he says Vaughters had banned the riders asking “where are we” (or some such) as they were sponsored by a sat-nav company and it wouldn’t look good.
Given that cycling is a promotional sport, I’m often surprised by how anti-media some of the teams seem to be.
For me, a good team would have the media nous of Garmin and the web awareness of the Tour de Misery.

Yep
I’m not sure they’re anti-media, just not very saavy. You’d think it would be obvious – put up a bloggy, and strongly encourage your riders to post stories however brief about their races and life and whathaveyou. Hire someone who is web-saavy and writes well to keep the thing going, write press releases, and chat up the press at races.
Some of the Italian teams are really good at this kind of thing, though it doesn’t show up that much in the English-language press. That’s a huge thing: to get the press info in as many languages as possible – english and the team’s native language at least. Rabobank also has a pretty good site – English and Dutch, updated relatively often. It is a bit generic, though as they don’t have their riders doing too much of it.
it'd be worth the price
of team issued crack-berries to encourage riders to write posts, a la Frischkorn.
Given the way whereabouts requirements are at, especially for teams with internal programmes, I’d have though crackberrys – or similar – were essential these days.

I did. And I find it funny that Garmin are beating Columbia in the PR war.

Yeah. And Georhe needs to update his own fancy new site as well.

Agreed... I think we need to email him and ask him to post a new Iphone pic at least.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
With the Garmin PR war...
That is as much JV as it is everything else combined with the team’s PR. He has a head for it and is using it to the teams advantage for sure. I think it helps too that most of the team is on the net already with things such as personal blogs, diaries for local papers, and diaries for VeloNews. If you’re used to updating a blog, writing a quick note for the team site is easy. I think most of the team have written something (even if just a blurp) through out the year. It’s not just the key guys but the whole team that we get to hear from.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I would agree that in the North American scene
that Garmin and Rock Racing have really good PR, using completely different styles. Team Type 1 and BMC are prettty good too.
The other teams only send out press releases once in a while typically after a win but the teams are not building a rapport with the riders like the Garmin team does, putting out daily updates even if things are going bad. Stroke of genius to have the updates from the riders’ voice.
On the Pro Tour scene, CSC also puts out good PR. And well, Astana is in a category of its own as I’m not sure how much of the media stories are generated by the team and how much are generated by the media outlet itself, but they certainly get a lot of coverage.
Caisse d’Epargne is much better this year as they do have a blog (in French) which seems to be written by a few different folks, and includes riders’ voice (how much is really from the rider is unknown as it is translated). The other teams such as Milram seem to have frequent stuff coming out, but it’s in German and I don’t do German.
It’s always interesting, well to me, to see the media savvy of the teams and how much they are covered in the press (in multiple languages).
and french canadian at that...

The Irish
Would like it if Nicholas Roche (he who finished 13th at the Vuelta) could also join Deignan at Cervelo. Does anyone know if Roche has a contract lined up post-CA?

Didn't you write that nice letter to the Cervelo folks.
You know, suggesting that we were starting the rumor and they might as well go ahead and sign them cause PodiumCafe said it was so. ; – P
I googled it, it must be true.
Don't forget Rollin Lynn
I was so impressed with his ride at ToC that I’m not going to rest easily until he’s signed by a good team (like Cervelo). I’d like to see Tuft sign with them too.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
That blows my mind...
could you imagine Thor, Rollin and Svein on the same team together!? CERVELO SMASH!!!!!!!
Sastre:
google translated from here

“There are still more Spaniards to Cervelo”
Carlos Sastre, in his new team Cervelo company getting more Spanish riders. It says the winner of the Tour de France in Spanish media. Until now reinforced Cervelo next to Sastre with the Spaniards Xavier Florencio and Inigo Cuesta. A transfer of Olympic champion Samuel Sanchez by both the leadership team as the rider denied.
Sastre leaves CSC for the new Cervelo team. He looks forward to next season. "There will be a team for the classics like the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix because these matches are important for the sponsor. There will be a team around myself. There will be more Spaniards to come, including a neo-pro. In we will total about five Spanish riders driving, as that is not yet fixed. "
Cervelo otherwise known today announced that it has strengthened the Britons Daniel Lloyd, Jeremy Hunt and the Irishman Philip Deignan.
Scott Sunderland
is a known known isn’t he? I don’t think there’s ever been anything but clarity on the fact he was going to be one of their SDs
yes, he was even talking about it
when he was interwiewed by ES commentators during the Vuelta, so certainly that is true.
I classed him as a known unkown insofar as Cervélo haven’t confirmed it, but everyone knows it’s happening.

Although Sam and Carlos would be a nice little partnership
I’m kinda hoping he doesn’t go. I like the Euskies and if he went they’d be like a collective headless chicken.
I believe the Denial
In this case, I believe the denial. At least, I think I do. I was a tad skeptical of the original story, because of the vast amounts of cash involved, and the obvious importance of Sanchez to Euskatel.
So, per the Team CSC newsletter, Carlos is in London, being feted.
I also see that CSC is launching a new ad campaign, from their website here:
As most of you have probably noticed during Tour de France CSC have changed their logo this summer and now it’s time for the company to launch a major add campaign.
CSC had arranged for Sastre to be celebrated at the same time as launching their new campaign, which can be seen at airports in London and Copenhagen in the near future
This fits right in with the rumors about REDACTED signing on a new main sponsor and the rumors (elsewhere on this site, I believe, or is it above?) about CSC leaving Riis’ team and going to another, doesn’t it? I mean, why launch a new ad campaign about a star cyclist on a cycling team that ceases to exist after Lombardy, right?
