5th in TT - a quite Danielson

This result made me do a double take and since no one has mentioned it already - Danielson 5th, less than a minute off of DZ, not freaking bad.

Looks like 1. he is on his way back and 2. improving significantly in the TT. lets hope it bodes well for a solid '09.

thats all i have to write but it was only 53 words so I have to add at least twenty two more.

It’s a good result, but the competition isn’t Pro Tour levels. Still, it’s nice to see the engine running smoothly.

yeah its not a pro tour race but that wasn't my point...

…point is how close he was to DZ and VDV – who are both in the top ten (arguably) TTer’s out there.

I'm getting close to giving up on Tom D...

…I can see that you’re optimistic about the boy, but have you been following him for the past few years? Losing one minute to a mediocre DZ and a CVV whose form has to be falling off the table… I’m sorry but I don’t see the light.

Tom seems to have the type of talent you see in one new international rider per year, but he simply can’t get out of his own way. I can’t even stomach those articles he writes for Procycling any more. His newest epiphany regarding why he can ride everyone off his wheel in training but can’t get to the base of the climb without destroying himself???

He chaffs me so badly because he’s wasting talent that so many Cat. 2 hacks out there could have turned into something besides a single win in the Vuelta and the jersey at the Tour of Lankawi.

Is Bobby Julich more talented than Tom? And Bobby, for all his failures, gets to post up in Galena (a quasi-suburb of Reno, NV) for the rest of his life as a former Paris-Nice champ. That’s a dang race! It ain’t Pris-Roubaix, but it’s a dang race. You look down the list of winners, and you see writ the history of cycling. Eddy, King Kelly, Jaja, Rebellin, Zoetemelk, Maertens, Roche, Anquetil for cripes!

Good luck to Tom, but I want to be a fan of guys who go out there and race. Guys who can’t wait to get there heads bashed in at a kermesse, guys who role out of bed and smile when they see rain, guys who understand that cycling is psychological warfare and wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m sorry to harsh your mellow, but that guy’s been harshin’ mine for too long.

Never, ever, work with a sprinter.

I would agree that he has not lived up to his potential...

…let alone the media hype and I too get tired of his excuses , I mean even a novice knows how to follow wheels efficiently. BUT he is on a list of best US GT GC performances finishing in the top ten twice. yeah yeah its only the Vuelta i know.

Greg, Lance, Levi, Tyler, Andy, Floyd, Bobby oh and Tommy D…

I was only pointing out a performance that stood out for him this season, not comparing him to the top of the pro tour. Sorry to hear he has let you down.

He rode fairly wel in Utah

But looked a little on the overfed side as cyclists go. Not particularly out of shape, but not as low body mass as the rest of them. Look at my shots of stage 3 pre start and compare TD with say Frishkorn. I’m thinking the great stage racer hope (hype) is fading and he will end up as a fairy solid gregario

by Fred Marx on Sep 3, 2008 8:08 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He prolly...

…would have been much better off if he’d made the decision to be a gregario a long time ago. The problem with that is, the gregario is supposed to wake the champion in the morning and take his bags down to the lobby. Who is supposed to wake up Tom?

Ok, that was a cheap shot, but this site makes me feel froggy.

And to Fred: Could you shoot a link for the pic’s? I think Frishkorn is my new hero. Does anyone think he can develop the power to challenge at Paris-Roubaix? Wait a minute, this post is about Tom. Right. As you were folks.

From the Urban Dictionary...
1. froggy

When niggas be all anxious and shit ready to scrap
If you feeling froggy then leap my nigga

2. Froggy

Obnoxiously ready to fight, as in “ready to leap” like a frog
“You feelin Froggy? Then hit me”

I’m glad you asked me, because I wasn’t sure what it meant either. Now that I know, I’m way happier.

Never, ever, work with a sprinter.

Tee hee...

Any help in making you a fan of Will’s and I am all over that!!!
Check out his blog at Missing Saddle. He puts up some great writes and might just make you envious with some of his foodie notes. Always fun reading. Knee is giving him some shit right now but he’ll be back and ready to give it some hell. Really good guy and seems to have a heck of a knack with breakaways. Not an easy talent but one he has!

Or if he just had come in without the hype, and had the same intro as every other bright-eyed youngster.

He’d have hardened up or left for another carreer long ago. Stringing him along by coddling his body and stressing his mind may not have been healthy at the start, even if it’s looking more or less necessary today. Only other alternative is to just frigging give up on long tours. One to three day events only. He may still crash and burn, but at least it will be plain old injury (or maybe a bad couple of weeks after the race) not disease, stress and misery during the race.

for you TD hatazz, he is more accomplished than VDV at same time in his career, way more

and don’t give me the crap about vdv was a domestique – Tommy D had free reign in only a handful on TDG’s and one Vuelta and even then it got taken away after Johan made him support Jani (or is that Yanni) after he rode into d’oro. For the most part he has been a support rider behind better talent.

TD was more hyped just due to bad timing with people looking for the next lance but VDV was hyped as the next best thing before lance’s comeback. We all thought that he was washed up ESPECIALLY since he joined Slipstream to mentor younger riders – kiss of death. Bahhh I’m froggy now too, damn it.

+1

I wouldn’t consider myself a TD H8r, I’ve been kind of indifferent toward the guy, but he impressed my in Greenville as a strong team guy. And the “next Lance” sum-up was dead on. Plus, in the limited interviews I’ve seen or read, he’s totally accepting and humble about the whole thing.

what's with this hatzz or haters?

personnally, I found quite distasteful to be called a hater if I am not a fan of a rider. Doesn’t mean I wish them ill or anything.

by lyne on Sep 4, 2008 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I'd like to think that I'm being sympathetic, not "hating" (even in the sense of "saying anything negative or a downer."

Something in his rider development isn’t working right for his mind or body, or he wouldn’t be down for the count so often or so severely. That’s not hating, that’s wishing him something better.

Newsflash: someone can be supremely talented at ANYTHING, but if it makes their life a frustrating slice of hell, they probably need to either do it differently or do something else. If it’s not bothering him, I withdraw my statement as not applicable. (Anyone think it’s not bothering him???)

Sure, flip a coin, and sometimes it will turn up tails 10 times in a row. But if you get a run of 20 tails, “chances are” there’s something wrong with the set-up.
