Should be a good one today
Allthough I don’t like these monster long stages, just makes everyone scared and waiting for the last possible moment. When have you last seen the favourites battling it out on a slog like this before the last mountain? Going for Contador today, think he will be quite superior this Vuelta.
Morning all
Didn’t get up early on purpose, just seemed to work out that way
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
action
A breakaway group has finally emerged, after several abortive attempts. Moncoutie, Meersman, Landaluze, Zandio, de Maar and Ballan have pulled away into a nine second lead.
What link are you watching on Bruce?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
there's also this from the official website...
sorry for the delay… slept thru the alarm… and the puppies prefer sleep to food
"Wizard's first rule. People are stupid. They will believe anything they want to be true or fear to be true." -- Terry Goodkind
situation
That breakaway group of Alessandro Ballan, Marc de Maar, Xabier Zandio, Inigo Landaluze, Gianni Geersman and David Moncoutie. Zandio at following the Benabarre sprint as the lead grows to almost five minutes.
Are the any vid links that will be up later?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
yes, in 2+ hours
many links at cyclinfans, I’ll post them when I find one (or many ) that works.
I’ve lost all hope for CTV.
Oh, that's fine. Il'l wander over there later.
I saw the TT on a very good Spanish link the other day. Watched that and followed commentary here worked quite well.
I love the people we interact with from Ctv, but their product is just horrendous. Especially when you go to the USCN and get instant video for free. Some other company is going to figure it out and put Ctv right out of business. It’s just a matter of time.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
situation
After the first hour the breakaway group has 7mins 20s on the main pack, led by Cofidis’ riders. That elad will be tested once the climb up to Puerto de Montllobar, and category 2 climb.
need...more...coffee
That elad will be tested
I stared at this post for several minutes, wondering if “elad” was yet another cycling term I hadn’t picked up yet…before finally realizing it was just a slightly-transposed “lead.”
Hehehe
I read your post talking about Bruce’s post and still didn’t get it the first time. And I’m on my second cup ;-)
Anybody else state-side or is it just me right now?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Your'e all alone
One american against an army of euroweenies. You’ll need stronger coffee.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
I'm fortified with guatamalan fuel this morning
so no worries there.
Majope and I can hold the fort against Europe like we did during the 1700s, when France, Britain and Spain were busy trying to carry off our natural resources :-)
Of course Sweden was too busy with Russia at the time to get in on the party, but there you go.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Hey hey hey
we tried (halfheartedly) to rob you of your natural resources! We just weren’t any good at it. You have to give us credit for trying though.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
Ok, ok. Points for trying.
And you did manage to slip a fair number of folk into the Midwest. Wisconsin and Minnesota wouldn’t have the same look without you, so we’ll give you credit for that too.
And recently of course you’ve given us the popular phrase “Born from Jets”, which sweeps the nation every July.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
We were really busy
ravaging Finland on a regular basis. Boy we really screwed them over. heh heh heh……………….oh Hi Bruce
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
I'd pick up the country and move to the Med
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
As boring as it is
to have a joke explained to you , I have to ask . That one went waaay over my head.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
HI, Jens, how you doing? :-)
That was just a quick slam on the new VP candidate for the Republican party here, the governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin: she’s so inexperienced in foreign affairs that her PR people are spinning the fact that Alaska is the closest state in the union to Russia!
Hold on, gotta get a passport first :-)
Ok, enough politics. Back to racing.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Ok, so they are still pretty early on in the stage. About 180K to go, more or les?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Is it me or is most of you team abandoning over the last 2 days?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
It may be your own team you're thinking of Drew
I believe the psychological term is “projection”.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
Ha ;-)
No, I thought Bruce had Barredo as well and he dropped out yesterday.
To be honest, outside of Boonen and Kroooooon I’m not sure who I even have riding right now. I’m kind of an early season guy.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
I had Barredo, too.
In the Vuelta-only VDS. First time I try to put together a team for this race, and I’m down a rider already.
Bruce
Can you say if any Cyclingfans links work in our part of the world?
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
What, you've got something against Russian Eurosport?
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
I may be able to watch from work
on a feed today.
Carlos Sastre - Tour de France winner - Born From Jets
Can't remember which Spanish feed I used (too lazy to look) but
it was very good. You had 10-15’ of racing interrupted by 5’ of commercials. But it was consistent so you could just pop out when the commercials came on.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."

Ah Yes! JustinTv worked very well.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
situation
We’re two hours in now, and as every rider is over the summit the break group have taken their lead to over 10 minutes. The average speed over the last 60 minutes was 41.350 km/h, well ahead of schedule.
That's pretty fast - I thought Wiggie said the peleton was slowing down ;-)
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
And at the rist of opening myself up to massive ridicule (oh, that never happens)
in about half an hour I’ve got to disappear for a bit and (wait for it)……….take the dog to get a haircut. (I know, I know).
There are good reasons though. 1) my wife had a loooooooong week of work and deserves to sleep in. 2) the dog (a little terrier) hasn’t been groomed in a while and looks like a freaking Tribble. I think she’ll enjoy being able to see again, the last week she’s been bumping into furniture with astounding regularity.
But I should be back for the uphill finale.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
Exactly. I'm afraid she'll start multiplying like them too.
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
that's not a dog... it's a mophead

Keep Drew away from long sticks if he ever has a bad day.

d'oh - 'risk'
Fucking non-edit buttons, grumble, grumble, grumble…………….
"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."
oh oh
Sorry. I thought maybe they were relaying live local coverage. After a few failed attempts to follow things with CTV this year, I’d kinda given up on the Vuelta. Up early with nothing better to do (pouring rain outside), though, so I’m trying to give it a shot.
you need a dbs....
tho, tve-international won’t switch to the race until 9.50am edt us

A
reminder of those riders ahead: Alessandro Ballan (Lampre), Xabier Zandio (Caisse d’Epargne), Inigo Landaluze (Euskaltel), Marc de Maar (Rabobank) and Gianni Meersman (Française des Jeux).
In other words
No Chance.

Back in 90’. Carry on.

crash
Jose Vicente Garcia Acosta crashes but it’s nothing serious and manages to get back into the peloton
Fog and rain
at the finish today. It’s going to be a cold – possibly risky – descent off of La Rabassa. Recall that the course takes riders over the climb once before the final push to the finish at Naturlandia.
just make sure that
the righteousness doesn’t last so long that you don’t get back on the bike soon :)
Well I'll be at the Tour of Britain tomorrow (watching in the rain probably) so that will be it for this weekend!
you traveling to catch any other stages?
It would shock shock anyone I’m related to to hear this, but I’d love to see it up in Kingston Upon Hull. (they used to have to drag me to Grimsby).
weather is not good
The conditions are far cry from the hot sun we had prior to the rest day: 15 degree temperatures, a fierce wind and heavy showers are making it a truly arduous task for the men in Lycra.
good
this is going to make the final climb a bit harder :)

The most difficult crap ever.
Good morning, all! Back from my morning ride, & time to crank up the coffee pot.
Thanks to you all for the pre-race chat!

Incidentally, England are playing Andorra in football later tonight. Thankfully for the race organisers the game will take place in Barcelona and not the Pyrenean Principality. Can you think of anything worse than a set of drunken Brits pushing people off bikes?

don't care if it happened via the Tour of Britain or the Vuelta, but
I sure would like to see a stage end up in Gibraltar. TT across the runway and then up the Rock.
Ha! Yes, would be fun would it not?!
I’m not sure Britain would allow it to be part of the Vuelta though so it may involve a loooong transfer!
that transfer might be easier to arrange than
convincing Spain to open up those border gates . . .
(seriously, that was the second most ridiculous border crossing I’ve been through, after East/West Germany)
And then finish

Uh huh.
Rather annoying that the one day I can actually watch, all I can see is a group of men in yellow jackets.
Isnt that your outfit for

as of about 15 minutes ago
the d-tour live ticker reports that
The strong rain is over. Let’s see how long it takes to the road abgetrocknet. Total could be a benefit to the driver started at the end.
So let’s hope for Linus’s sake that the road abgetrocknets by the time he’s on the course.
Hehhe
The spanish thread on Justin tv is funny. Some guy said VV was his favorite and 2 seconds later some other guys called him a shit. Muy hilarioso.

Sorry. I can't tell if it is live or previously recorded from earlier today.
I spoke too fast.
I survived the 2008 PdC Olympic Road Race Live Threads
Rasco looks like it's live...
…they said there are 19km left and that they are “muy cerquita de Andorra”
bad news
there is probably going to be no live video. MAYBE the last kilometer, nothing more. That’s sad.
