Solvang TT Gala
For folks who will be in Solvang for the ToC TT, there's a fundraiser event that evening in town. $75/person or $1k for a group of 10. Dinner, wine, and "surprise celebrity appearance" (my money is on Bob Roll), music, dancing, silent auction and other assorted nonsense. RSVP by 2/12. www.tourofcalifornia-solvang.com.
Just in case you have some extra money to blow.
These are extra words. Really, no need to read them unless you want to.

What are the vitals re: the PDC get together?
I’m emerging from lurker status for the first time in many a moon. Plan to be at the TT but don’t recall the PDC party details. Thx.

Full details aren't out yet.
Thus far, we’ve narrowed down our party to Solvang, nearby the course, and beer. Not sure much more is needed now that I think about it. ha ha. Chris and company are working on more details. :-)

Chris...
feel free to email me directly if you want help hooking things up, arranging a ride, etc. Sometimes my PdC monitoring isn’t so great, so give me a holler at my direct email. Drew has it if you don’t anymore.

How are you pronouncing it so that it constitutes two syllables?

But then again I didn’t claim mine was a proper haiku… but that last line is sublime! It’s so Zen… surely that is worth something.

Pronouncing it like "druid" makes it work...
… and makes it both zen and something the French call I don’t know what.

Ladies, ladies, it's a ST quote; get your minds out of
the gutter! :-) The full quote is, "Certainly, in the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is often useful. " Hey, 1984 was a very big year for me; what I remember of it, that is……

Everyone knows the village druid's name is Getafix
That’s what’s so great about the books – every character’s name is an amusing twist on something about their character or work.
The village bard (who’s a terrible singer) is named Cacophonix.
The Chief of the village is Vitalstatistix. And so on.

Panoramix in the French original
“getafix” for the U.S.
Not sure why, as panoramix works just as well, linguistically. Guess they figured we needed some easy laughs.

by Jimbo... on Jan 16, 2009 5:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Sure...
The ride plans look like this…
1. Early departure to ride from Solvang down to Santa Barbara (mostly flat and fast along the 101). Meet up with others in SB.
2. Ride back over the mountain (highway 154) down to the Santa Ynez Valley (near Solvang).
3. Ride over Mt. Figueroa (12ish miles of climbing; about 4k feet in elevation gain…some gravel).
4. Drop back down into Los Olivos to see some part of the TT…probably the endish few.
It’ll be an effortful ride. Some folks might bail on the Fig portion due to time/death concerns. We recalculated the time today…might be closer to 7 hours.

Hm
Here’s my version:
1. Early departure to ride from Solvang down to Santa Barbara (mostly flat and fast along the 101). Meet up with others in SB.
2. Call Gavia for a lift back to Los Olivos.
3. Kegger at our house.
Seriously though, I would like to hook up with you the day before or after, for at least a short stretch before you guys rip my legs off.

Not just.
Easy to drive to Solvang if you know the top-secret back way. It’s the way that the locals know about and use when the town gets too overrun with ToC stuff, the rodeo, or the big classic car show.

101?
I vaguely recall that there is a bike path that parallels 101 down the coast, at least in parts, but how do you get from Buelton out to the coast? Do you ride on the actual shoulder of highway 101 for the whole thing? Cause that sounds insane to me. Granted my memories of that road are pretty dated, but still… I would be up for a longish, but less ambitious ride if anyone else is interested. Particularly one that ends at the kegger…
by Jimbo... on Jan 16, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah...
what he said. The 101 is an official CalTrans bikeway at various spots along the state. All good…I ride it to work in SB several times per day.

101 is a serious freeway. There are a few places that you are technically allowed to ride on the shoulder, but you would soon be dead if you tried… Not the same down there I know… Oh, and beer good.

I’m assuming I’m bringing my whole bike for the purpose of pre-beer riding. But I s’pose that all depends on the planning and such. If there is a day-before-the-beer ride, that might be pretty fun too.

Ten foot
wide shoulder all the way down the 101. It’s where we do TT practice because it’s so smooth. The trip back over 154 is where you have to keep your elbows in. 101 is completely safe….and sometimes you see dolphins.
