That... that is going to be fun, fun, fun...
Do you have tickets yet Tifosa?

Si, already got my plane ticket
I fly out May 7, and I plan to be in Venice in time for the team time trial.

I bet you're glad you got the pass last year
I’m sure they will look a lot more carefully at first timers this time.
definitely!
Even with an in from last year, I was a bit worried that with HWMNBN showing up, they might give our spot in the press room to someone from People magazine or something. It looks like we’re all set, though.

If they start to quibble
we just use the Flatbagger defence.
Yay, proper cycling news
But mysteriously, no room for CSF Navigare. I’m glad Visconti got a place, too.
Nice to see ISD in there
I was wondering if they would make the cut. With FDJ and Cofidis staying home, that opened up some space.
Interesting to see if CSF makes it in the next round.
Yeah
that’s pretty big. No Giro, you’re basically killing that team.

lol
no clown suits for you.
actually, they got rid of much of the orange in this year’s kit. it’s much more ristretto.
So they no longer look like Oompa Loompas?
That is a damn shame, that is…
The chase is better than the catch...
CSF isn't in for the same reasons Fuji isn't
they had a rider on the team last year that disgraced cycling.. Them re-hiring Sella doesn’t help either.

Yeah I think this is pretty clear.
RCS is going the way that ASO went last year on this. It may be a very long summer for Fuji.
That just reminds me...
I was really starting to like Saunier Duval as a team that would field almost all climbers, sort of like Euskaltel. You know, it was just another different and interesting factor in the races. The road would turn up, and then you would see them for the first time. I was starting to like Ricco, because he talked trash and backed it up. I even liked Piepoli, because he seemed like the selfless hero when he gifted mountain stage wins to Simoni and Ricco. Now, the new sponsor pays for their indiscretions…

'A' rider?
cough, cough, splutter. My gut feeling is that if they ever get round to retesting those Giro samples then they might just possibly find one who doesn’t.
Well I was just limiting the riders
obviously both teams had more than one and CSF probably had about 8 at the Giro, but each team had ‘A’ star rider who disgraced cycling.

yeah for xacobeo galicia !!!!

They should have called the team:
Flav-o-Flav Bougues Telecom. The necklace would, of course, be mandatory for all of their riders.
Wow, that was fast getting the graphic up there!
Someone is really on the ball with those graphics.
Thanks, it looks really cool!

Garzelli will be happy.
There was just an interview in the Italian press with Garzelli, who said the Giro and Liége were his main goals for the season. Nice to see him back at the Giro.
Xacobeo should be a fun team to watch too. Does this mean I have to learn to spell it?
Interesting to see if CSF gets a late invite, or whether the RCS decides that the wiff of scandal is too heavy after last year’s high jinx.
Spelling Xacobeo is no trouble
My problem is that every time I read it I think shboom
lol :-)
something about the x and all the vowels makes me blue screen. i feel certain i’ll get it eventually.
complicated, yes
but simoni rides for them, so that sort of makes up for it. or, makes things still more complicated. he’s been blabbing in the press this week about the Armstrong comeback. i so heart it when simoni starts blabbing. it’s truly one of the most beautiful things in cycling.
except for a few others i could mention.
It truly is a wonder to behold.
Do tell us what he’s been blabbing when you write your next gossip. I need a giggle. But most beautiful thing in cycling? No, that honour goes to…..a certain sprinter from Tuscany. If someone wants to post a picture to prove it I shan’t complain.
huh, now who would that be?
lol, i will be sure to include simoni. ‘kay, i gotta go do a thing. then, i’ll start getting some gossip together. too many silly chores lately. grrrr.
wine and curry, yum :-)
ah, now i remember the most beautiful thing in cycling. the memory, you know, it needs help sometimes.
Is this the future of cycling?

lol, and the eyelashes of unusual length?
damn, those things are long.
i do think he looks a little like a space alien – a very pretty space alien, but still, a space alien. his little bald head is just so pointy shaped.
But he's not a conehead like that German chap....
…what’s his name now…you know….monster time trials followed by positive tests…nah, I’ve blocked him completely from my mind ;-)
Those eyelashes must be a liability. I mean, my sporty sunglasses don’t allow enough room for my lashes, let alone his. He must have to have customised eyewear!
Huh, can't imagine who you mean ;-)
You do have to wonder where he stashes those things, the eyelashes, I mean. Probably has to clean his sunglasses a great deal.
Should we prepare for a garzellilanche?
I’m sure there are other "lanche"s that we’ve missed. For instance, I’m dreading the day when there is a vladimirolanche or aristotolanche.
The gods made him bald to keep me from stalking him.
Then, to be sure, they gave him the fashion sense of a ’70s pimp.

Google is my domestique.
Oh goodness me!
Wrong wrong wrong. He looks mighty fed up in that bath, but i guess I would be too if my bath water was that colour…..
An awful lot of Italian men dress that way
Sure they all look slick and fashionable when they hit their forties, but lots of them seem to spend years looking like they were dressed by their mums. Via mail order.
interesting question
They have been working mightily hard in the press to show that they’ve distanced themselves from Gianetti – oh, he only works with the team part of the time, he’s only doing administrative work, blah blah. So, I think it’s possible they might be able to sweet talk their way in.
Eh, overdue for a gossip column. maybe today.
They hurt themselves by becoming American based me thinks
and also their roster isn’t that impressive. Talking about amore here. Fuji hurt themselves by liking too much CERA.

Does that matter so much in Italy
Most of their domestic teams seem to be flying a flag of convenience. Diquiquiqui-PVC are Venezuelan, but the only connection any of the team has with South American is Simoni’s confectioner auntie, yet that doesn’t seem to harm them. And how many of LPR have ever even looked at a pint of Guinness.
Garzelli
Yes, I’m pleased to see Acqua&Sapone on the list. Their exclusion last year was hard to understand, after Garzelli’s two stage wins in 2007.

Yes, only 100 days!
That was my favorite part of the press release.

why do you need a press release?
When you’ve got the handy Giro Countdown
And I’d add cool pics to the countdown if it weren’t for those pesky copyright laws.
Tifosa -
I can not wait for your pics and write ups again! Just don’t tease us like last year putting up a title and leaving the rest blank. We might behave badly given the race and all. :-)

lol
I think that accidental blank post last year got about as many responses as all my other stories put together.
Given my general lack of computer expertise and the vagaries of connecting to the internet while traveling, I can’t promise there won’t be some snafus this year, but at least I know after last year that you’ll all make the best of it :-)

Feel free to test us if you must. LOL!
I am sure we will keep it lively for you to laugh at when you get back to the computer the next day. :-)

I’m sure if you got tied up, you could always type up a note or two via email, attach some pics, and one of us could help get it posted here. :-)

Psst
After those two meet a few times this year, one of them is going to be known as “has-benna.”

That's a term that so has to be used more often! ha!

Awesome line up, I'm so happy all 20 PT teams aren't required to ride
I counted 14 PT teams and the other 6 will all have their best squads ready to go. Garzelli for Acqua, Sastre and maybe even Hushovd for Cervelo. Gatto and Visconti for ISD, Di Luca and Petacchi for LPR, Rebellin and Gibo for SERRAMENTI PVC, and Mozquerra for XACOBEO . This will make for much greater racing than had all 20 PT teams been invited. Although it looks like the Italian champ wont get in.

Fanini is lobbying hard
Interesting to see how they go with that. Fuji-Servetto, CSF, and Amore&Vita are not yet in.
good point
They’ve been quiet lately press-wise. I would think Corti has a good chance of getting them in, though. Hmm, so that leaves realistically one spot.
The only realistic spot for Barloworld...
… on a shale embankment on Col de la Bonnett
Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc.
right
no amore&Vita = no Simeoni ;-)
I thought it was weird that VeloNews led with that aspect of the story. Really, not the first thing that comes to mind about this announcement. But eh, whatever floats the boat and whatnot.
Simeoni rides for Ceramica Flaminia and not Amore-Mcdonald's Dollar menu
so no flamingo’s=no Simeoni

Mikhail Khalilov
won both the Coppa Sabatini and the Memorial Cimurri, in the week leading up to the Giro di Lombardia. Shamefully neither race counted for VDS points, so he finished the year as he started.
ooh, you *are* good, aren't you
is that really what they did?
Okay, lol, now that i’ve checked the googler, and it’s clear they weren’t the only one. indeed, they were far more subtle than most who put armstrong right there in the headline.
sheesh, i’m so naïve. i so should have rewritten our headline to match the cool kids and relate it to armstrong. what was i thinking?
just adding
funny, i didn’t even put it in the snippet/description thingy – it just never occurred to me.
is this wrong?
i assumed that was the case actually
because really, how in the world did espn remember the whole armstrong-simeoni thing and manage to pick that out of the roster listing?
adding again...
It also strikes me as odd that VeloNews is taking their cycling story – a story where they would have a direct press release from the RCS – from the AP wire. Like, aren’t you guys supposed to know about cycling?
My top five Giro teams
GC-wise. And not knowing yet which ridera will actually show up.
1. Liquigas
2. Astana
3. Silence
4t. LPR
4t. Lampre
I kind of doubt Sastre will come to win.

Silence...
you expecting Cadel to show? Or are you wanting to see T. Dekker hit the big time this year?
Thinking
Dekker, though perhaps Silence can yet get Cadel to show. Maybe if they announce to the press that he isn’t coming. Try reverse psychology.

If Cadel comes than I don't think he will go for the win
so personally I don’t want him to come if that’s the case, one comes to the century Giro to win not to train, now Dekker I can see, he won’t be leader at the Tour so why not. Also to comment on one of your above comments about Sastre not riding to win, I would have to disagree. The man himself has said that he is coming to win and he wants to be in his best shape at the Giro. Carlos is an honorable man and I will take him at his word.

Last two teams?
I’ll take a wild guess… Flamini (how can they not invite the Italian champion?) and, oh, FDJ.

Then again, if it were a given that they would invite the Italian champion
wouldn’t they already have invited him? Unless for some reason they want to make Flaminia and/or Simeoni squirm a bit first?
Google is my domestique.
I'd guess not Flaminia
for pretty much the same reason they included that long Armstrong-friendly TT. RCS can be pretty petty when they feel like it. Remember how last year they chose to invite Meche-Silver Cross (???) when they still had a free spot in the week before MSR, rather than Garzelli’s team.
