Help Required - Amstel Gold
Hi all, as you know i'm going to spring classics in april. Flanders, Gent-W and P-R.
I'm suppose to fly out of Brussels on the 18th april, i'm thinking of staying another couple of days and go and see the Amstel Gold. Wahoo.
I was wondering if the PdC expertise can help though, as i will be doing this myself and not an organised tour i was wondering how long it will take to drive from Kortrijk, Belgium (where i'm staying) to the race in Holland, and if i do where it will be best to drive to. I will then look at flying out of brusseld on the 20th maybe.
You help is appreciated, i'm still undecided but if it isn't that hard then i may just do it, oh and bonus i get to see my Philippe and Thomas race then ..hehehe
Thanks again.

I'd say about 2 hours from Kortrijk to the vague area of Amstel Gold
but I’ve never been there so can’t be of too much practical help! Do it though, I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard, and you need to meet Dekker :-) Are you feeling any better btw?
Antibiotics have kicked in, so starting to feel better
hmmm i’ll see ho my planning goes in the next week or two, a airfares will need to changes ASAP, OH and have to get leave from work.
BTW remember the Alpe d’Huez thing? So much better this time…hehehe I’ll PM you

I'll let you know a little.
Not all.. hehee

That would be safest... the "not all" part! ha ha!

Eeh Kortrijk right...
That’s about….. No idea! Can’t be far.. Always spotting it on my way to France. There would be some Belgium sticking around…
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
Wait
You’re driving? Are the roads of Belgium, home to several of the world’s greatest scenes of Cycling, somehow not good enough for that pink Orbea of yours? Oh, the shame…

2 hours
Google maps says it will take you two hours to reach Maastricht from Kortrijk. The roads may be crowded though and you need to find yourself a nice spot so I’d plan for 4 hours.
go to Valkenburg for the finish
The race finishes on the top of the Cauberg in Valkenburg and the little town is easily accessible via freeway. With a bit of careful study of the course map you can see the riders pass by along the route and zoom back to Valkenburg for the finish. The town is a sleepy holiday spot for most of the year (and is full of little open air bars) and will have parking set up on the outskirts (near the freeway) and shuttle buses to take you downtown near the race route. The Dutch and Belgian fans are very different from typical TdF fans and I am glad to hear that are going to include the ‘Cauberg’ in your trip. I went a few years ago and it was AMAZING.
Or get on the back side of the Cauberg if you want to see blood!!
errrr....am i supposed to sign this??
