Rotterdam Six Day: Day 4 Live Thread #2
Watch the live video. Festivites begin at 12.10 EST. Check out the full schedule of tonight's events.
Enjoy!
And of course that was not enough words. Where is Gavia?!?
Today has had some fun, we got to watch Dekker win a race! We found out that Stam and Stam C in the derny race are father and son. We got an update on the derney race from a friend who used to ride these professionally back in the day. Good times and great information today.

you are right on the rider count. I didn’t take into account 13 teams for the Madison. I just thought I read that it was 26 riders in total for the events. So maybe 32 or so?
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I posted links to the different starts lists in the last thread
But I’ll repeat them here:
Elite 6-Day
Giant Sprint 6-Day
Masters of Sprint
Google is my domestique.
The Elite 6-Day riders
are the 13 teams who do the madison, derny, elimination, etc.
Google is my domestique.
dunno exacatly, anyone else have details for Nikki? how many are racing the 200m TT, Derny races, other races besides madison teams?
majope totally has us covered above! Thanks majope!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
mystery guest
did he say mystery guest? Now i’m starting to doubt the show, remember last time we have a mystery guest

Fog Horn!
Someone just got a lap! Score.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I like watching the serious ones versus the one that look like handshakes
although I woud imagine neither are easy. Quite the arm work out.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Maybe that he would normally be here if he had not retired?

Here Albertina. He was so adorable while we were standing up for him
anyone see the replay yet? ( re my 12:37 post: "wasn't that win by Dekker due to a serious blocking of the 3rd place rider by the rider in 2nd?? ")
I thought in the side bar there were video clips of the different races.
I can’t read the language so I could be mistaken. I thought they were there though.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I'm using windows explorer. I think some others just show the video.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I pulled this from this link someone else linked earlier.
However, the “King of Six Days” beyond doubt is Belgian Patrick Sercu: with 88 victories to his account, he dominated the sport in the 70s, sometimes pairing with road legend Eddy Merckx, and continues to organise and direct a lot of European Six Days like Munich, Ghent, Bremen and Amsterdam. Second on the absolute victories ranking is Australian Danny Clarke with 74 wins, achieved mainly in the 80s and early 90s.
The most successful couple is the current Swiss pair Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart, who have already topped every other pair in history with 34 overall victories. Other contemporary stars include the Italian Madison specialists Marco Villa and Silvio Martinello with 22 and 28 victories so far respectively; some say that if they had teamed up more often, they would have cracked Risi and Betschart’s record.
Aussie-Belgian duo, Scott McGrory and Matthew Gilmore, have nine victories to their credit since 2000, while Alexander Aeschbach and Franco Marvulli, yet another Swiss duo, appear to be the next big thing on the Six Day circuit. But there are many riders to discover, like the Dutch Robert Slippens and Danny Stam, also on the rise, and German pair Andreas Kappes and Andreas Beikirch.
I heart this event.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
nice article, you know Bremen six days it mentions starts the day after Rotterdam ends, many of the partners are going up there.
We need to keep an eye out for links.
I wish more put this up. This has been fun.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
sheesh I am missing all the racing as I am posting too much, I am going back to being a lurker for the next madison, please still be my bud?
We will so be here for you.
You may want to practice splitting your screens with different openings of browser though. Come the classics, it’s ctv in one corner, start lists in another, and pdc down the left half. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Try using a media player for the video
I’m using VLC but even windows media player should do. Just tell it to go to http://media002.is.nl/ahoy You lose the side bar but can keep the video on top.
now we know why it's Amstel Café night
You need to have drunk alot to enjoy this.
What will they dream up for our last show tomorrow “Dutch Night” there is no show on Day 6 finale night
Phil is going to be bummed he missed that.
I didn’t realize we had to be able to play the sax too. I was band in high school but brass, not woodwinds. Damn.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
What did I miss?
please explain, I am very curious
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
Haha... during the "show" the derny guy was playing the sax.
It was just awesome. ha ha ha
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Oh man, a derny driver who plays a sax
or as I will call him…God

Evening All

Yeah Monty! We missed you earlier! Dekker won a race!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Thank god there is a mute button
on my phone. I would hate to try and explain this background stuff to the top execs. ha ha.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
And they have different feeds so try clicking on the scrolling blue and white
“Klik Hier voor de Livebeelden” and get a different feed.
Even worse
It doesn’t stop when you start clicking on it
They didn't put his name on the English schedule.
Didn’t realize it was on the Dutch. Now we know what to expect for tomorrow’s show: Pharos.
Google is my domestique.
does anyone know
if the 6 days of Bremen are streamed live?
does scratch mean all start at same time (as in not a time trial) anyone know history of name "scratch" ?
According to the OED
Scratch refers to “a line or mark drawn as an indication of a boundary or starting-point”—so I’m imagining originally scratched on the ground.
Google is my domestique.
oxford english would not know why British cycling named it scratch, but really honestly thanks for the look-up, I will try later to get answer, or anyone else know?
LOL. It's a pretty good dictionary.
Feel free to continue to look, but I think you’ll come up with the same explanation. Scratch races aren’t unique to cycling, and the OED definition is specifically for sporting events. Everybody starts on the same footing, from the same place. From the line scratched in the sand.
Google is my domestique.

I read that the organizers are not allowed to say but that it is between 3,000 and 10,000 USD equiv.
depending on race and event of course.
that's a nice chunk of change
I assume that it’s good given that it’s popular with some of the racers
These races are great money makers for the riders.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I Know what you mean
I’m just hanging to see Dekker…………
We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.

With your "gap" you should be able to give him a heads up. ha ha.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."

trying to add a link here,
without the whole address showing, here goes …
lexicon link hey it worked !
Head over to the "just checking" thread for some fun.
We try not to load the live threads with pics unless they are shots of the current race or really relevant. Of course from time to time we do toss that logic out.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Most of us are in the US but Canada, Australia and the UK represent too.
Plus a smattering of Europeans and a few in Asia.
Oh i want to get up and dance at my desk
We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.

"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
well nikki I am canadian so it really should pet her "our national animal" if you know what I mean - um yah says me blushing - you can delete this if you want as you are master I think (mistress?).
bahahahahaha!
methinks peterfish will fit in just fine here.
welcome, try not to get in too much trouble all at once :-P
no worries lots of people actually in real life mistakenly call me peter, but maybe someday if you read this whole thread top to bottom threads one and two you discover my real name if you are a good P.I. - good luck !
Got it! :-) GH right?
Then checked facebook and there are 3 listed but I don’t think any of them are you. Welcome to the Cafe! Hope you find it fun, informational, and a new home for your racing enjoyment! No more lurking for you. You’ve now part of the family.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Well I only had to read 240 comments
at least they were short. Oh, and it is a bit of a miracle that none of you ladies posted a Bennati pic when peterfish had no idea who he was.
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
I couldn't I was at work....
I was trying too… But hey we did link to the bennalanche meaning… I’m sure he got it…
We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.
George Bernard Shaw, 1856-1950
Good, if you do put a pic of Bennati up
I will counter with a derny rider, the ugliest and fattest one I can find, I’m just warning you
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
You're so funny. Like any pic you have could stop us from posting. LOL!
But, on a note, in general (noted it a few places here) we try to keep live threads to the racing at hand. Especially during the classics as the pics tend to slow the updating at times. So a bennalanche during a live thread might be bad. BUT… this thread is done so bring it on!
