13 days until the Tour Down Under...
This has been fun, but I do hanker for some road action.
Google is my domestique.
hi guys :-)
I can’t believe I’ve sat through this for 6 days now.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Wassup...
… can’t load the video until 10AM PST… am recording something else online.
Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc.
Pretty sure we've got a younger madison
going on. Judging by the speedo f the guy right now, he’s about to gain a lap.
Should hear fog horn soon. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Is that Kraftwerk playing now?
Sui Juris your favorite group is on…
hey stranger.
I found an email from a ways back that got buried in work. Oops.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
oh wow, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rcEF2GyBR_Q
6 minute trackstand
My friend said the record is like 15 mintues but I can't find that stat anywhere.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Giovanni Pettenella
supposedly 63 minutes at the ’64 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Trying to find confirmation…
Google is my domestique.
Well that blows the 15 minutes I said.
Maybe my friend said he remembered a 15 minute one. Crap. I’m a great listener but totally suck and retelling stuff.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
That time seems very unlikely
another source says it was 21 minutes 57 seconds.
Google is my domestique.
Okay
now I’ve got one that says Pettenella did do a 63-minute track stand, but it was at Varese in 1968. So maybe both are correct.
Google is my domestique.
I'll try and check in with my friend and ask him.
That’s his time frame so he’d recall something I’m sure.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
message left.
I’m traveling tonight and out of town until Sunday so no guarantee on an answer or comments.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Found an article
with pictures, no less. It’s in Italian, but translates quite coherently via Google. Varese, 1968: Giovanni Pettenella and Sergio Bianchetto remain motionless for 63 minutes, “two lakes of sweat” under their bikes, until finally Bianchetto staggers and crashes out.
Google is my domestique.
afterall in UCI events, such as the worlds and world cups they put a 30 second limit on trackstands
to stop them being too long.
The UCI official walks up to the riders with a stop clock then blows a whistle when they have to start moving again.
I knew there was a strict limit set but I wasn't sure what it was.
For some reason I had 2 minutes in my head with a restart happening if they went to the 2 minute mark. I thought the official shot the gun to tell them the race is going to restart. Maybe that was prior to the reduction to 30 seconds. In events like olympics and such you need a schedule of somesort and I’d imagine trackstanding could blow that out of the water.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Everytime I hear this song I have flashbacks
to a friends wedding. Hands up baby.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
HANDS UP and . . . hey nikki and all, a question?
not sure if this is the place, but I am a newbie and have been recently delurked so here goes . . . before the days racing gets heated up, can I network here with you and ask all of you if anyone knows of any / or where i can find a job doing online cycling website editing, updating, managing etc? if this is not the place you could click on peterfish and send me an eml if you like please.
Try dropping a note over in the fanposts area.
There are a LOT of people here who see things many of us miss and someone might be able to head you in the right direction. :-) You’d probably get better feed back there than here in a 6-day live thread. Just a thought. I don’t think Chris would mind you posting the question either. I thought VeloNews posted a job for someone to write up mechanical bikey stuff.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
yes, they did
Someone to work with Zinn on tech.
Usually both VN and CN post jobs on their sites when they have openings. VN also typically brings people up from their intern pool.
appreciate it
I already know about those and I will now keep a closer lookout, but any personal knowledge of anything else by anybody please? (send an eml to peterfish if better way to not clutter up this thread) – I am not a techie but good editor / manager / updater type of guy
Phil's in the building
time to get this party started

Yeah :-) I might've cried had you missed the last day.
We so need to cheer on our derny guys today. Who knows for sure when we’ll see them again. I’m totally going for the father son duo.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
i hope the London 6 day take note on the lighting and some of the music
it’s been just great. Stand up for the champions is a great choice, as is this intro music that plays everyday, pirates of the caribbean and the let me entertain you
not to mention they are going to use the exact velodrome
you see this velodrome used for the Rotterdam is only tempory, once it’s over it’ll be taken down and put in the next place whoever wants to use it
You could buy the Vandedrome if it still is around.
Although I think it was bought up a couple years ago and possible retired.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Maybe the 6th yime it's asked..
But why do they switch partners between 2 sixdaagse so often?
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
pretty much
And who is available. Some of the road pros have other commitments or may only appear at a local six day paired with someone who is more experienced.
yeah, you notice how each event have different sponsors
most noticable in the Sprint Cup how hoy is sponsored by Eneco for one event, but different companies for a different event.
Whereas his track trade team for UCI events is SkyHD+
2 sixdaagse?
The Madison partners have been the same for the whole 6 day event. Many of them, when they have a solid rythem down will ride together often (thus some of the records they set). I think others depends on schedules, maybe? Not really the same but like our guys here in the states, have all rotated with each other depending on who’s going to what event and what else is going on. Meatball and Huff then maybe Huff and Lea. Holloway and Pearce were invited to a couple 6days last month and I’d imagine that guys like Meatball and especially Brad would’ve said no had they been asked to get some down time. They’re sponsored (I think) to attend some events so one might get a call and then sets up a partner to go with or maybe if they are set team, they always go together. Be a great question. I can ask it.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Hey if Lampater and Marvulli
gain a lap on everyone today, they could win this from B and B right?
I think Schep and Risi groups would need at least two laps (each lap roughly translates to 100 points right?).
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
hey n...
I’ll be out when the thread change-over happens, so can you take care of putting up the second thready? Or, M?
Grazie :-)
Will do. :-)
I’ll start thinking up my 75 words now. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I want Risi and Stam to kick butt
but I think they’re too far out. I hope Lampater and Marvulli go for it. It would make for a very exciting afternoon. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
all they need is to get a lap, it's very close. Just people need laps whilst their competitors can't get the lap.
Me thinks there will be some very good racing tonight with people going to get the lap they need. Good job the madison is last.
Oh then fireworks as the big podium will be made up and a giant throphy.
Lap points
I don’t think you get points for taking a lap.
The one with a lead in laps win. If there’s a draw the number of points decide.
You get points for sprints. Points = cash!
Is Stroetinga already insered in the VDS-competition?
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
Honestly, i don't know why these aren't streamed more, Rotterdam 6 days is the only one i know who does.
There are probally more. I may check Bremen tomorrow, but i dont think it is. Maybe just the biggest ones are?
Nikki, you win if you are ahead on laps
ties are broken by points ( or did I misunderstand you asking re: each lap roughly translates to 100 points )
I thought I read that 1 lap is equal to like 100 points.
thus my thinking it works in deciding the event overall versus a specific race.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I thought it went the other way
like, if you gained 100 points you were granted another lap? But I’m new at this, and might have misunderstood what I was reading.
Google is my domestique.
I get the laps win the madison = laps 1st, followed by point
but for the overall, is it based on points as some races give you point and it’s not a lap thing. Thus, having any point value on a lap to begin with. I may be totally wrong as I’ve got no idea how the actual overall event winner is decided.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
you get points in sprints, then how many laps overall you are behind is added on.
A team isn’t leading in the moment as they are behind by a lap.
I'm pretty sure the Madison is 200 laps, sprints every 20.
I’m really confused how all the points and lap tie together for the overall.
The lap counts I’ve seen in this even seem to be related directly to the madison laps gained/lost.
And I think the laps counts as points or we’d never see points over 100, just add’l laps. right?
I may not be making any sense. I have this land is your land, this land is my land messing up my thoughts.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
For the overall overall too?
I agree the Madison is scored that way.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Yes, that's why B and B are leading
they have far less points than others but are one lap up and therefore are leading the overall
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."

Ok, lets go B and B
all Deutsch pair, so I’m all for them, los gehts

Back behind video
I must say watching the video with you guys is different now I’ve seen the real thing.
(just to make you jealous of course…)
I live close to Rotterdam
Saw the real thing yesterday in Ahoy. Won a couple of free ticket in a newspaper quiz.
Nice city isn't it?
Do you play on cyclingfever and ploegleider.protourcompetitie?
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
I recently moved in
Lived on Curaçao before that. It’s a bit colder here I must say.
Don’t know cyclingfever and ploegleider.protourcomp.actually
Amstel Curaçao
Is great indeed. I participated in 2006 and 2007.
I actually promised to write a fanpost about it but my life has been a bit hectic since. Maybe I can do it around the 2009 edition…
That would be a great lead into the race. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Way, way cool.
Look forward to a report, whenever you do it. But remember, there are still almost two weeks of off-season to fill, so you don’t have to wait until November.
Google is my domestique.
Nice Dutch competition.. Starting in the TDU podiumcafe.
ploegl….. is going out of the air
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
Lopex went yesterday night
check the fanposts for the recap on how things went

Some strange tactics...
9 rounds in the lead.. Letting go in the last round..
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
Guy with the microphone
That guy is pretty amazing. I’m hearing exactly the same spoken commercials as yesterday. He probably knows them by heart by now.
They are just trying to brainwash the listeners I guess. Still, there must be better ways to convince potential clients.
I see it and think of chocolate chip cookies.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
lol.. after 20 years..
That’s the first time I see a connection between Ahoy and our sea phrase
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
Standing up here

could be really close / exciting for 2nd through 4th overall overall places today
not to mention the win !
What I mean is right now there are 3 teams with close to 210 – 220 points and these teams will all be fighting for laps, along with the Lamp – Marv Yahoo going to be fun.
I love this music today!
I am going with majority above on scoring. Laps first and foremost followed by the sprint points. Both in the Madison and in the overall. Makes sense as I have now realized sprinters are in their own category and not with the 13 teams shown in the overall. Last day, at least we’re sorting it all out for the next one. (I so hope we find a next one somewhere.)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
haha, i've always known that, but it's never been asked. And i can never phrase things well enough to explain.
Anyway “whever you go, go texaco” – my memorable phrase for the six days
I have I have!
I swear, I totally love watching track but trying to get the scoring and rules (while "working") is so not easy.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
The red balls again
Pretty lame part. The riders get to throw 6 red balls into the audience. Yesterday it took them a lot of tries to get them out of the track. And then the good part is. 1 of those balls has a triangle on it, that one wins a prize. Stupid imho.
I'll be back
I have some work to do. I’ll be back at 21.45 local time for the Derny finale. I can’t miss it 2 nights in a row of course!
No you can't, that would horrible!
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."

would be horrible is what I meant, real horrible!
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
Seriously.
I tried that call yesterday and was too sucked into the fun here. I too am seriously multi-tasking today though as I fly out tonight to California for a couple days. So need to wrap stuff up I’ve got going on.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I love the NOW however if I want my house tomorrow
I maybe need to split my NOW time up. ha ha!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Was it at band camp?
Sorry… I couldn’t help it. Please share. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
I'll send an email later, you will enjoy
I was in a band, (played in Holland actually ! !)
and also went to camp
but never both together, sorry ):
important thing right now is . .
to not lose a lap. points not sooo important (except for those teams 2 to 4, I realize now that I mentioned above) crap this is complex but funnnnn
Phil do teams ever try to gain a lap during an elimination race or anyone know?
I think they can but holy crap they'd have to really(!!!) be flying to pass everyone sprinting.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
actually an elimination race pace is kinda slower, just last few riders speed up every bell lap in order to not get cut
I love this my head's going to explode at some point trying to sort it all out. lol!
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Stupid question for the Dutch-speakers here
The pronunciation guide on a “Learn Dutch” website I was checking out the other day said not to roll one’s Rs. But this announcer rolls them like crazy: Rrrrrrotterdam, Dekkerrrrrr, Rrrrabobank.
Is the pronunciation guide wrong, or is this guy just messing with my head?
Google is my domestique.
Uuh.. Rrroterdam's accent?
Or just to keep the mood up. It sounds pretty nice
Some say the best things in life, are one the inside.
Hi Ed
welcome!
( I like welcoming people even though I am a newbie, thats why I love you all, you just let me fall off the lurking cliff and now we all fly together) – oh how sweet you all will say
I still remember the first hello I got when I came out of lurkville.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
maybe not
I thought it said “Six-Day Sprint Race: introduction of riders + Keirin”
But this is no Keirin!
No, Keirin drivers are pussies
it’s all about the derny’s, yes I am clearly very passionate about my Derny drivers :)
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
It's our duty to be that way, considering it will be our way of life soon.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Morning!
Yay! I over-slept slightly, but still managed to get my arse out of the shower in time for the keirin!
Hang on… this doesn’t look like the keirin… did I get the timezone conversion wrong?
Maybe something special being the last night?
I have no idea.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Ah here we go...
Any takers for Sir Chris Hoy? I think that he might be an outside chance, LOL
Go Theo!
I so want to hold the bikes. (crap, did I just type that?)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
What! are you turning your back on derny drivers
how dare you!
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
Well... umm.... could I do both please?
The derny driver would have time to “help out” the riders at the start of some of these.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Errrr fine, but I'm watching you and making sure you aren't turining on us
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
I would never turn on you Phil. Never. Ever.
I just think it would be pretty sweet to hold the bikes.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Hot damn! Yeah THEO!!!!
You are my champion. And I stand for you with smiles.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
here we go all questions have been sol-ved
last race was some sort of filler not on program, here comes Keirin now Phil!
And careful insulting Keirin derny drivers, cause aren’t they also the ones drivin’ your Derny dernies?
I wish we could do this live as a group.
I could totally see us all clapping with this music and hammering drinks.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
We would have so lit up the atmosphere in there
we would be standing for the champions and all that good stuff
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."
~ Jens Voigt
Are you saying Theo couldn't possibly kick some of Hoy's little boo-tay? :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Little?
Mate, it bloody eclipses Fabian’s arse – and that’s saying something, LOL.
HEY... there is nothing wrong at all with any of these men's butts.
At least I don’t think so. But I do have to agree these track guys are “built”. :-)
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
hate it I missed the racin' again
stupid thread posting, I will as I promised myself now pay more attention to the riders and less to all my new friends, sorry ):
thats why I think Dekker won a few days ago, rider #2 blocked rider #3, Dekker won.
you can follow both at the same time, open them
in separate windows and minimize them..
I’ve done this every time watching live races.
I need to improve my typing skills
because I look at keyboard as I type – that explains all I now realize
Ok, I gotta get out of here for about 45 minutes
as the Governor of Cali once said, “I’ll be back”
"If you go (with a break), you can either win or not win. If you don't go for it, you definitely won't win."

all you ladies talk every day 'bout Benalanches, it is OK no worries
(I am just talkin’ not actin’ on it)
Feel free to start a fanpost of one though.
Funny thing is you’ll get the most help from us ladies. BUT, the guys will seriously thank you for it and CrashDan will most likely pay a visit.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Bwwwaaahaha!
Cyndi Lauper. Oh dear, I hope I can get that song out of my head…
Asleep?
It’s tomorrow here, where I am. And too early for my liking…
sorry Lou my bad
I forgot you had already posted a few times today
(anyone know the name of that disease older folks get when they start to forget things? )
te hee hee
I think Lopex is a lesbian trapped in a mans body, or maybe vice-versa.
(don’t get me wrong just a little fun here)
I don't remember if lopex said what gender he or she is so I didn't want to offend anyone.
Anyone know?
I thought in the recap of last night's race you sounded more male.
At least with the fun you were having with your brother.
"The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed."
Not that I'm calling you a liar or anything
but I’d be pushed to tell from just that photo. Unlike say Ryan , who could give you a pagefull of notes on improving your posture, positioning, bike geometry, tyre pressure and more.
the camera people don't seem to realize Vos didn't win
A little Dutch nationalism, perhaps.
C'mon folks
Get the sprint moving already! I’ve got to leave for work soon, and I’ve been looking forward to the chance to catch the sprint today!
which particular sprint?
up next is time trial (200m)
the next sprint I see is: Six-Day Sprint Race: Sprint final. It does not happen for another 40 minutes I think?
That's what I meant
…the 200m TT. Urgh, not quite awake yet
No.
I looked that up on the first day, when I saw all their names together. Yorick and Patrick are brothers, but no relation to Theo.
Google is my domestique.
Well I'm off to the salt mine
Have fun, guys!
Remember- you all have to stand on my behalf! Even – and I want to make this perfectly clear – even if the champion is Sir Chris (I’m lookin’ at you, Phil)
I'm already back
just in time for Levy!

it is his first six day ever
and he is just getting into road shape by riding this track
all kudos to him
But yes no big deal 1 lap gained
I stand for Dekker, will I be standing up for him in April?

On a random note
isn’t this years Giro pretty well suited for Dekker-leader at the Giro helper to Cadel at the Tour? Oh that would be so sweet

We need to get you over to the lexicon thread.
Lots of answers are in there. :-)

So nice that they're impartial.
Does this mean they’re going to through nails in front of Basso’s bike or something?
What a lousy Italian

Lance said on his twitter last night that he'll be tweeting
immediately before during (if possible) and after races. That will be fun.
Lance is addicted, a magazine here "cycle sport" has made a joke twitter in the magazine.
14:01 – breathed in
14:01 – Breated out
14:02 – breated in again
Imagine during the race, could be great
“I’m about to attack these fools, just watch” or “I’m cracking miserably, I sure hope that no one attacks” or he could twitter with Bert during the race to talk strategy, the possibilities are endless

Ah yes Johan is on twitter as well
actually the Astana team is also now on twitter, I wonder if Lance has a big influence on them

Oh Schumi, I wonder if he is having a relationship with Blago
they both are claiming innocence with proof of their guilt out there. But what Piepoli said today was very humbling, I have to give him respect for being so brutally honest.

Life bans on the first offense is a little harsh
2 time no doubt, but they deserve a chance to prove they can do it clean and that they have learned their lesson

I think the solution will never be completely solved
really these guys that are doping are so overconfident they will wont be caught that they will do it even with life bans, I think most guys are clean now, it’s getting better in my view.

Someone needs to teach that man how to do handslings
he’s a bit feeble, pathetic and, erm, limp-wristed. Some of the women earlier on would have ripped his arm off.
Evening
Well, as I quoted yesterday
he thinks something similar himself: “The first tests the fragile Dekker had the feeling that his arm was ripped off.”
Google is my domestique.
Dang. Have to go get the kid again.
Should have thought this whole parent-thing through a little more thoroughly some years back. But who knew Six Day racing was so much fun?
