The International Cycling Union presented the regulations that will govern the new 2009 World Calendar in Geneva today. The World Calendar brings together the biggest road cycling events in the world.
The UCI President, Mr Pat McQuaid, said that he was delighted that the new structure had been approved by all the stakeholders in professional road cycling (organisers, teams and riders) and that its launch marked a new start for cycling. The UCI President said that the new structure would allow cycling and everyone involved in the sport to return to a calm, stable environment that would favour the global development of cycling. |

Joy to the world, all the boys and girls now
joy to the fishes in the deep blue see and joy to you and me. OH, everyone is so happy and cooperative, this has to be a new beginning of something great and wonderful and peachy…..I give it 2 years.

The UCI needs a new web designer, or training for the one they have now
Everyone knows that you don’t design a page like this. Light grey text on a white background does not abide by the ADA guidelines for the sight impaired (or something like that.) Just sayin’.

Have to laugh
Anybody with a website could draw up a list of races and score points. [Hey, that’s us!] Why this took three years and untold carnage…
Oh, and they’re not sure when the Sochi Tour is going to be held? I may have to zap it from the VDS calendar for being so pathetic. It’s January! Pick a date!

there are no men on that calendar and, even worse, no cyclists
and that equipment on those women has never even been used!

"that equipment on those women has never even been used"
But that doesn’t make their equipment any less useful (heh, heh ;-)

Didi's definitely in there
and anyone who has ever been within a few hundred feet of him will tell you how well used his equipment is.

What is Tour of Cali?
So what kind of race is the Tour of California as it isn’t on this list? A Continental race or something?

In other words, like the World Cup in skiing, only results at these races will get you
points toward winning the UCI title for 2009.
is that correct?

Yes, that is correct
just like the PT ranking system last year(which Valverde won) you can only gain points in the races on the world calender. I’m not sure if only PT riders can get points or not. The riders on continental teams can compete for the conti circuit title(either Europe, America’s, Asia and so on.) which only counts the results of the continental races and only conti and pro-conti team riders can win, for instance CVV finished 2nd in the America’s conti standing last year because Garmin was pro-conti but he won’t be able to score points in those standings anymore because Garmin is now a PT team. Also the leader of the new World Rankings will wear a leaders jersey in the World Calender races.

Tour of Cali is on the UCI America Tour
listing here but you have to click on “America Tour” on the pull-down menu.
