But

due to the large number of negative results he claims his must be a false positive.

nah

Seems he had some sort of ok. They just didn’t do things completely by the book. Besides they would never take down an icon on anything less than an open and shut case. He got away with the hotel-room IV video so……

by Jens on Oct 10, 2009 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

He stole a video?

I am confused.

Canna’s in his swan song anyway. It’s all about Chiellini now.

by Chris Fontecchio on Oct 10, 2009 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions

There's a video from his Parma days

where he and his teammates are preparing for a european cup game hooked up to IVs happily laughing away. The substances were gray-area but it surely didn’t look good.

Italy

needs new blood….

seriously, that team sucks…especially when they play Ireland…gosh….anything more boring than that?

by rbjhan on Oct 10, 2009 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions

maybe we can discuss

which team you guys think it’s not gonna make it to South Africa….

by rbjhan on Oct 10, 2009 11:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Denmark

Sorry I’m caught up in the national frenzy. The deciding qualifier between Sweden and Denmark is played in 3 hours in Copenhagen. Most hyped game I can remember.

by Jens on Oct 10, 2009 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions

the Portuguese

seem to think there might be some kind of deal going on….

by rbjhan on Oct 10, 2009 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

exactly....

so I’m not sure how this one will work out!

by rbjhan on Oct 10, 2009 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Honduras

I think they’re in deep trouble.

ABRUZZIAM...uh oh

by Chris Fontecchio on Oct 10, 2009 11:21 AM EDT up reply actions

errr

I’m more interested in Argentina….

by rbjhan on Oct 10, 2009 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

I bet you are

Argentina’ll win the playoff though ;-)

by civetta on Oct 10, 2009 11:41 AM EDT up reply actions

but really,

group 1 is so tight….
Denmark 18, Sweden 15, Portugal & Hungary 13….

by rbjhan on Oct 10, 2009 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions

I got nuthin

I don’t follow Europe til the finals. Italy, of course.

ABRUZZIAM...uh oh

by Chris Fontecchio on Oct 10, 2009 11:28 AM EDT up reply actions

Spain for me.

but I do follow the results of the qualifying games.
and this year is particularly interesting….

CONCACAF scenario generator

Here’s another soccer post that’s fun: just plug in the scores and see who gets through and who faces the 5th South American team.

CONCACACAF scenario generator

Costa Rica is in the hot seat as far as I can see.

by ursula on Oct 10, 2009 11:51 AM EDT reply actions

I don't know.

I mean Costa Rica is also sucking right now but if they turn it around their home field advantage is huge.

by ursula on Oct 10, 2009 12:06 PM EDT up reply actions

hmm I have a strange feeling I have "seen" this race already?

or maybe it was just an early morning dream, or I read the book, this is the movie?
(yes yes I know no spoilers)

Sylvester Szmyd

Is my favourite under appreciated rider in the peloton this year.

I don't know

He might not prosper as a protected rider. But he sets a beautiful pace on climbs

hey funny thing I actually went back and accurately counted

the silly podium points thing during the worldchamps,
and you rbjhan actually tied Willj for the rainbow / gold with same # points,
I am glad that is over with, I had fun, and I had no idea is was so un-fun for many more!

by peterfish on Oct 10, 2009 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions

I mean about raising my voice against the fun you had.

by tedvdw on Oct 10, 2009 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions

no worries, glad you did,

it brought everyone else out of the woodwork also,
and I like to participate in fun social activiites,
not be off in the corner playing by myself.

by peterfish on Oct 10, 2009 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

bah

bad news for me obviously.

the worlds I mean.
it is fun to play that little game…but if others find it annoying I can ditch it.

by rbjhan on Oct 10, 2009 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Kessiakoff in the chase, Lövkvist in front

why can’t all races be italian oneday-races?

by Jens on Oct 10, 2009 12:34 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah

I can’t wait to see him in more pro-tour races next year…

probably his last chance at this then

since these races don’t seem to interest Garmin

by civetta on Oct 10, 2009 12:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Lovkvist having a go

either sandbagging or he just looks like that

by civetta on Oct 10, 2009 12:46 PM EDT reply actions

sorry civetta and also maybe Jens,

I really thought you didn’t mean it when you said you were booking out just before end of race a few hours ago . . .

by peterfish on Oct 10, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions

well, you didn't spoil anything so no worries

but if it specifically say “no spoilers” in a post that is a pretty good indication

by Jens on Oct 10, 2009 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions

it was just a joke when I said we all had no idea.

Bruce Suomi also says above: I know the winner
we were both just pulling your legs, and you both fell for it.
And yes we did not spoil, so no harm just some fun :)

by peterfish on Oct 10, 2009 1:27 PM EDT up reply actions

PopUp Rolen almost did

by saying he forgot about the whole Vino thing. Ie.: if Jens saw that he then probably knew Vino wouldn’t win. Or, I am too paranoid.

by tedvdw on Oct 10, 2009 1:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I think . . . and PopUp can maybe come in and verify,

that when PopUp Rolen said “. . . the whole Vino thing”, he was referring to Vino even being IN the break, not getting dropped by it?

by peterfish on Oct 10, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Neither are correct, I meant I forgot Vino was even back and racing

Still bizarre to see home in Astana gear, and I naturally assumed it was Jani or Horner. It is fall and in Italy.

by PopUp Rolen on Oct 10, 2009 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

what a sprint ! ----- climby types in full-on oxygen debt

the earlier race reports didnt do Gesink justice nice win

by Choo Choo on Oct 10, 2009 12:49 PM EDT reply actions

The climb itself?

or climb + environs?

"It looks like talking, but it’s just words that comes out"

by Hons on Oct 10, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Shorter and more predictable

it’s so fierce you have to keep cool until last 100-150 m. This has more possibilities for attacks. I like this one more.

by Jens on Oct 10, 2009 12:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Alpe D'Huez?

or by climb do you only mean hilltop, not mountaintop

by peterfish on Oct 10, 2009 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions

you are all totally correct,

I just watched the tedvdw provided last climb video below,
and this climb is unsurpassed for the climb itself as well as the scene and scenery.
Alpe d’Huez is a totally different story, different category altogether.

by peterfish on Oct 10, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

It's a pretty awesome climb

but the best climbs are the ones where the riders are the most active, the riders do make the race after all. Seeing Emilia is a one day race there will be always be great action, so I’d say it’s the best finishing climb in cycling. Climbs like Ventoux and Alpe are legends but just look at this years stage 20, ani-climatic and not too much action going on with the overall win all but decided already.

Dammit Elk! I don't care if it's your mating season, you are disturbing my peaceful sleep! Just STFU!

& also the joke about Vino a bit before that

“foratura?” “delle gambe…”

“puncture?” “of the legs…”

and

how they were laughing at Vino. +1

Thanks for that

Fantastic result for Gesink and three Saxo guys in Top 10. Excellent.
